I think his signing would be the catalyst for change. No way the Masters or indeed any Major in the next 12 months could be taken seriously without having the Open champion there.
Will LIV steal our next Aussie golfing champion, and would it matter?
It’s hard to know what’s going on behind the scenes but if the PGA is not even attempting to negotiate with LIV then they’re in for a hard time.

Good points Greg. Could be a messy legal situation coming up given that the no objection certificate is in place for the IPL when there is a window in place for no international cricket which will also be the case for this one as far as Australia is concerned.
Latest IPL purchase makes the BBL look like the Small Bash
Yep I also think it would create more intensity for the players. Like the good old days of Davis Cup in tennis – if the ICC scheduled things properly, you’d have the Test Match-only guys (comparison would be doubles players) sticking around and supporting the T20 team to get the result for the country. The squads would all come together for a common cause.
Stokes shock as World Cup hero calls time on ODI career
The strange thing is the ICC seemed to signal the death of 50-over cricket when they said the Champions Trophy tournament wouldn’t be a thing anymore after 2017. Now they’ve backtracked but won’t run it again until 2025.
I think ODI cricket and Test cricket can become more valued by scarcity. Everyone will be over T20 cricket and will want something different.
If teams played winner takes all one-off ODIs to end a tour that would create interest. I also think the women’s points system like they do in the Ashes has merit going forward for the men’s.

The Open: St Andrews golf is fascinatingly different and we have Aussies in the hunt
Nice article Diamond. Not too many people in the world can say they’ve played the Old Course AND shot in the 70s! Well done.
Interesting that the modern players are hitting it so far that they’re preferring to go to opposite fairways to have better approach shots. While it’s not how the course was intended to be played good luck to them with 118 bunkers out there. The issue though is that so many are doing it and also waiting for greens to clear for short par 4s that it’s taking 6 hours to complete a round for some groups. Thankfully (for the golfers at least) the wind looks like it’s not going to be a big factor this weekend or we could have seen 7 hour rounds.

What were the reasons for scheduling WCs just before Comm Games Chris? Same as the hockey. Seems very stupid.
Browning out to make early statement at World Championships
Most common time guess was 8:14pm which was what we had in Game 1.
What time will State of Origin Game 3 actually start tonight?
Sometimes you have to write a pointless reply to an article without offering your own opinion.
Stuff the walkover - Nadal's Wimbledon semi spot should go to his quarter-final opponent
Some good points Tim. No one questions the lucky loser format for the first round even when Djokovic was turfed out of Australia and replaced.
Nadal may have won the match but he lost his conditioning. By his own admission, he couldn’t compete for two more matches. Fritz would obviously have a question mark if he was allowed to play but now people will also have a question mark on Kyrgios if he wins because he didn’t play 7 matches. It’s not a great situation all-round.

Agreed Simon. I think what is already being overlooked is the opening stand that set the platform. Zak Crawley had all sorts of question marks on his batting but for him to adopt BazBall (a much higher strike rate than usual for Crawley) in a 4th innings was impressive. He ‘only’ got 46 but it put India on the backfoot and he played some superb shots.

I thought that’s what I heard when I listened to him perform at the 2011 AFL Grand Final. 😛

It certainly wasn’t a good look..although Smith appeared to be remonstrating with square leg just as much as he was with Khawaja.
Was that something to do with the LBW shout? Not that it matters. If Smith was given out and then challenged but still got run out in a similar fashion what’s the rule with when the ball is dead on DRS?
It won’t help his future leadership chances and perhaps shows how much pressure he is feeling now that he’s in a bit of a struggle by his lofty standards.
Smith’s petulant run-out tantrum tarnishes the hard work he’s done to repair public image
Thanks for a trip down memory lane Mike.
Euro 96 by Actua was my favourite growing up. You could do bicycle kicks if you got your timing right on hitting the buttons and the commentary was well ahead of its time.
Trying to take the lower-ranked teams like Switzerland to Euro glory was always a fun challenge.

They do, they just haven’t posted anything this season for some reason.

Media bullying of Jordan De Goey has been a disgusting witch-hunt
It’s the Todd Carney effect. If you have history of bad off-field stuff then any future indiscretion will be magnified no matter how trivial. Would be very interesting to see the reaction if De Goey had a squeaky clean record. Perhaps that’s why Bailey Smith in comparison didn’t have the outrage effect for something that was illegal.

Was not expecting this. Has consistently been negative reports in the past decade about how much the Melbourne Grand Prix loses (around $50-$60 million).
With a bad timezone for Europe and the sheer logistical travel for teams, Melbourne always seemed like it was fighting to stay on the calendar despite it being an event for so long.
When you consider the talk about tracks like Monaco and rumours that it could be cut it really is incredible that Australia has been given a 13-year deal. Credit to the Australian Grand Prix Corp for getting a deal like this done.

Putting aside all the moral objections and implications of this league on the world of golf the one good thing was the TV broadcast. Caught the first half-hour last night and I can see shotgun starts being a thing everywhere for pro tournaments – at least for the first two rounds. With all the golfers on course at the same time there was never a dull moment and the broadcast constantly cut from one golf shot to the next rather than sticking on a guy lining up a putt for 5 minutes.

Thanks for taking part in Origin Bingo. The most common guess for kick-off was 8:12pm. We also had one response suggesting 12:01am. 😂

Death, taxes and the AFL dragging out the announcement of the grand final time. They have no problem with locking in the MCG for eternity but the time that the ball bounces needs to be examined every year apparently.

The other thing is that journalists will keep asking players at EVERY tournament about LIV until there’s some kind of resolution to this circus. Even though LIV has received mostly negative press, it’s getting oxygen and you can’t escape it.
