That’s what I’m hoping for. You know the old boxing adage “styles make fights”. I think the Drua just might have the style that will cause the Kiwis all kinds of grief.

Waratahs wary of the big trap waiting against Fijian 'freaks', Brumbies prepare to face old mates

I just want to see how the Kiwi sides handle them.

I think the reds and yellows might be an issue when fatigue sets in so the obvious answer
is to be fit as and pick and chose their moments for brilliance and brutality. I think these men are ready for the step up and will play accordingly. Mark my words, they will force teams to change their tactics.

I think the Drua will surprise a lot of people with their competitiveness. It won’t be just about the speed and athleticism from the Fijians but we’ll also see some nuance to their game. Oh and the hits will be just as brutal. My only concern would be the team’s ability to carry their intensity ( a common area of concern for island teams) and concentration in crucial moments. But excited for the Drua.

I’m sure Pat Cummins will make a solid captain for this group but I’d like to see how he handles things when the chips are down. Not just over a series, but a whole season. That’ll be the the true test of his mettle as a leader. It’ll also test the new coach.

ANALYSIS: The 'dick pic' that helped scuttle Langer and fast tracked a natural born leader

I with old guard. Both of them.

Hear, hear, Jeff.

'Exact opposite of Langer': The intensely private Andrew McDonald and what will change with him in charge

Let’s wait and see how the team fares post Langer. By this account, the team should be on top of everything and, most importantly, be a happy group, because that’s all that matters really.

I think everyone who has played sport has been there, once or twice (maybe more), and wanted to give the ref or the ump a good serve for being a so and so (aka incompetent). So, let’s not all start clutching at pearls, about this so called meltdown. The difference between Medvedev and the average Joe is that it’s his livelihood, he’s got a Grand Slam riding on, in part, how well the umpire does his job, so I don’t hold it against him. It wasn’t a profanity laced rant, it was just a Russian guy having a go at the umpire in OK English. Sure, fine Medvedev and say whatever else that will appease those who felt it wasn’t a good look (and it wasn’t) but it should end there. On that note, the umpire in question should be asked to justify why he let Tsitsipas’s father coach his son from the stands because that’s not allowed. And Tsitsipas Senior should be watched closely from here on. There you go.

'Shameful behaviour': Medvedev slammed for 'over the top' rant at chair ump... only to be vindicated

Trust his body of work (media narratives will be media narratives). Old Wayne’s got premierships, Origins, internationals (ok maybe not sure much this one), and years of experience as a top coach; and the fact that he’s old enough to be everyone’s grandfather (atta boy pop).

Dolphins must start targeting younger players but only three Origin players on market

I’d have Jed Cartwright given more time off the bench in the new season. JD could try to use mold him into something of an Isaah Yeo type player.

“Belief, brutal strength, bloody-mindedness, ball skills, boots, breakdown bastardry, and brawn.” Loved it. What an apt description. Thanks Mr Jones.

Belief, brutal strength, bloody-mindedness: The Boks are bloody back, baby!

I respectfully disagree. IMO it was just an unfortunate incident. Jordie will now be more aware of his jumping technique and make the adjustment. The same way Marika no longer takes out jumpers. You live, you learn.

'We have to protect the game': Barrett's controversial red for face kick splits fans

Hi Jimbob, just curious. How would you adjudicate the following scenario: Player A is running into the defensive line and just as he reaches the defender (player B) he slips and in falling forward slams his face into player B’s knee breaking his jaw in two places and knocking himself out. All this happens in a split second and player B continues with the tackling motion and strips the downed player of the ball and plays on. Question. Did player B commit a cardable offence or can this be chalked down to a series of unfortunate events?

Unfortunately, Koroibete running in face first into the contest didn’t help his cause. He may have been a little wary of taking out a player in the air as he has done in the past. But that red card was not the right call. Of course player safety is paramount, but the act was, in my opinion, not intentional or even reckless. If you’ve ever jumped to take a bomb (which, let’s be honest, few of us have ever done even on a good day), you will cock the forward leg and then extend it in the movement, its reflexive. How far you extend the leg depends but let’s remember that Jordie is 6 foot 5 and his daddy longs have to go somewhere. So having said that, a simple apology to Koroibete would’ve sufficed and the ref could have stopped play to make sure Marika wasn’t too shaken. And play on.

While I appreciate that Latrell is one of the game’s premier talents, I’ve never warmed to him as a player because of this kind of thing. He’s basically a bully, a skilled one at that, but a bully all the same (this is with regards to how he plays). I won’t fret a bit if he’s rubbed out for the rest of the season and some of next year. Good riddance, we can win a premiership without you, Latrell.

Mitchell can go for the rest of the season. That cover tackle was not just high and dangerous, it looked intentional. And I’m a Souths man.

I don’t watch much AFL but that Demons-Cats game was brilliant. That final quarter was as good as anything produced in the NRL or Super Rugby. Simply superb. Something any sports fan can appreciate. Not a Dees fan by any stretch but since Collingwood won’t be in the finals I’m on the Dee Train.
