St George Illawarra Dragons vs Canterbury Bulldogs: NRL live scores, blog

I said “Lowy has already resigned as chairman taking effect in a couple of months . . . ”

He has resigned as chairman by declaring he won’t stand for re-election.
They have to wait till the next elections in November to replace him, he can’t just walk out, but he has made it very clear he will no longer be chairman.

Lets see how the CRWG take over and if they dissolve the FFA and create their own body.

Maybe call themselves Soccer Australia and change the name of the A-League to the National Soccer League, has a nice ring to it.

D-day looms large for FFA as FIFA approves sweeping governance changes

Lowy has already resigned as chairman taking effect in a couple of months and the new board can appoint a new CEO if it wants and remove Gallop.

I hope its change for the better and I’m prepared to give the new congress a fair go, but that’s not a lot of time to set up a new structure and administration and appoint new staff with the A-League set to kick off in October and preparations underway for the ladies World Cup and the Asian Cup imminent.

They must have a very high appetite for risk.

“Bolt’s quest for a professional contract has already attracted the attention of over 300 million people, all while generating approximately $16 million in publicity for the Central Coast.”

“Month on month holiday bookings for the Central Coast region have gone up over 30% since Usain Bolt arrived.”

The A-League is a business franchise as well as a sport.
And Bolt hasn’t even received a cent in payment yet.

Australian football on the front page, Hollywood style

Not totally ashamed David, the first half was a pretty fair effort against the world’s best. Seemed like a different side came out for the second half

Maybe if we can reduce Bledisloe Cup games to 40 minutes with 2 x 20 minute halves, it mightn’t be sixteen years since our last series win…

Wallabies should be ashamed of last night's Bledisloe drubbing

So, no 4 tries in 6 minutes like against the Sea Eagles.

Those penrith players are so dumb, fell for everything in the book including getting into a fight when you are behind with a few minutes to go.

The collapse of the NSL all over again.
Another sokkah witch hunt. Can’t wait.

Victorian Rules management stick together and never, ever criticise their CEO in public.

FFA chairman Steven Lowy to quit post, blames 'football politics'

“Lowys have never put any money into football.”
Are you serious Pip.

Don’t let the truth get in the way of your incessant hatred of the Lowys and the FFA.

Isn’t there some AFLX game on right now somewhere in the world you could be watching.

This isn’t North Korea.
The fact that he is re-elected unopposed doesn’t mean he’s a corrupt dictator, its a show of confidence by the board in him as their chairman.

Lets see who tries to fill the void and what job they do. If its one of the A-League owners you’ll see an increased distribution of money to A-League club owners, the removal of the salary cap and then the collapse of the A-League and grass roots football.

Professor Foster thinks everything about Australian football is a “disaster”, so whats new.
Lets see how long he takes to put the boot into the new administration.

Australian football is so huge, so diverse and covers such a large area it will always have administration problems.
We need to accept compromise and work together, rather than squabbling over the few dollars that are left over..

Lets see what happens now, but I’m predicting another collapse and another Crawford style investigation, witch hunt and shaming by the rac!st Victorian Rules dominated government.

You’ll get more brain damage from smoking a pack of cigarettes or drinking a bottle of beer than heading a football.

There have been numerous studies done over the years and none can conclusively prove any link. Most studies actually admitted there were a number of benefits to young people playing sports like football compared to the risks of brain injury

Most sports people who die young or develop problems with their brain were found to have had their life span shortened or brains altered because of illegal recreational and performance enhancing drugs, which most studies on brain damage didn’t even consider.

Can of wriggly worms.

“Okay team, play smart football today, but don’t use your head”

What a disgrace the way the Lowy family has been criticised, harassed and hounded after all they have done for Australian football and the A-League. They are billionaires, they aren’t doing it for the money and in fact have spent a lot of their own time and money to help the sport grow in this rac!st country.

Australian football will never reach its full potential the way the various interests and factions argue amongst yourselves. You don’t deserve them.

Won’t be long before you start harassing the new chairman and the new board and the new “independent comission”.

Its going to be a shambles.

Stuart,
there is certainly a lot of interest in the EPL, especially while the A-League is hibernating. So keep up the EPL coverage.

Its only the first round and people may be right that its only the usual suspects that have a chance to win it, but its such an interesting league with so many facets to observe.
The football at times can range from the sublime to the ridiculous and the players and managers are entertaining in themselves.

Liverpool were very very good and there were some other great games in round 1, but it was a bit sad that Matt Ryan and Aaron Mooy were so outclassed. Maybe fatigue from the world cup.

Really looking forward to how the EPL season unfolds and many more fabulous goals.

Must also confess a liking for the English Championship. Last season was particularly interesting with a sprinkling of Aussies among them. Will be following them again this season with great interest.

The Roar's English Premier League review: Matchday 1

Geez you can have dreams at any age.
Good luck to him and hope he makes an impact.

Wow, if he pulls it off what a career in sport, after becoming the world’s fastest sprinter to then play for the Central Coast Mariners in the A-League.

Living the dream.

Chasing the dream: A defence of Bolt

As a long time SFC fan, probably not this season. Losing Matt Simon is too big a loss.

Adelaide and Victory look to have recruited well. Jets and Perth will also make the top 4.

Can Sydney FC go back-to-back?

Can of worms.
What’s going to be the criteria for a send off, when there has never been any to begin with?

Let the AFL violence continue, both on and off the field.
Good publicity value this season.

Spoiling the spectacle: Why the AFL needs a send-off rule

I understand Usain doesn’t get a cent, unless he passes the trial and makes the squad, so there may be no money involved at all. In the meantime the sunny Central Coast and the Mariners are getting millions of free advertising around the world.

Apparently since the announcement, Central Coast holiday bookings have gone up 30% already.
Not a bad return on an investment that cost nothing at all.

MoneyBolt: Assessing what value Usain brings to the Mariners

2018-2019 is shaping up as one of the best seasons for the A-League, with a big growth in interest after the World Cup according to the Herald Sun. There have also been a number of good signings and marquee players that have created interest all around the world.

Usain Bolt has already given the A-League and Australian football millions of dollars in free advertising.
Even the Victorian Rules marketing department are talking about him and his impact on the A-League.

Usain’s lichtning speed will suit Mike Mulvey’s kick and chase football tactics perfectly. He will end up the Mariners top scorer with 2 goals to his name.

Even greater anticipation building for the 2019 Asian Cup which kicks off for the Footballroos as the current holders on 6 January when we take on Jordan in Round 1.

The A-league and Australian football has a big, bright future in Australia.

Arnold unveils new Socceroos coaching team; announces he will also coach the Olyroos

A big loss for the A-League and Australian domestic football not to have him here. This is the classic case of what happens to our best young players.

He’s a rare talent and I’m sure he’ll succeed at Celtic if he goes there on loan from Man City, as expected.
Not in the same mould as Mooy but will give the Celtic fans some value for their money, if he gets the game time.

Daniel Arzani signs with Manchester City

I remember when I first saw Trent running around for the Mariners against SFC a few years ago. He was all at sea and not very impressive looking. Didn’t think he had much of a future as a professional footballer.

How times have changed and he has turned that around with a lot of hard work to win an A-League Premiership and Championship with the Mariners and now be the Footballroos most important defender.

Good luck to him and hope he has a long and distinguished club football career, especially considering he has only made 15 club match appearances in the last 3 seasons.

Socceroo Trent Sainsbury makes dream European move

Yes, but while Allianz Stadium is being rebuilt they could have played derbies at ANZ. I was there for the A-League record crowd of nearly 62K and it was a magic night.

Not sure about any decision “not to play derbies at ANZ” but if they get a big crowd at the SCG, then it could be a good atmosphere, especially if the Wanderers are more competitive this season.

These days though, stadiums have their own memberships and most SCG members are cricket and Victorian Rules snobs, so no chance of the SCG being a full house when the football derbies are played there.

That’s why they might get more to ANZ Stadium.

Maybe they should play the SFC v Mariners and SFC v Victory games at ANZ Stadium too, with the Suzuki and the Bolt in town.

Does the ‘magic of the cup’ plus Optus equal A-League growth?

Shinji Ono was a dream signing too, but its debatable he did much for the A-League. We’ll have to wait and see how much there is in Honda’s tank.

Its a shame that the richest A-League club in Australia gets a $1.6M handout from FFA and Foxtel.
That marquee fund should only be available to the teams that finish in the botton 6 imho.

Keisuke Honda a dream signing for Melbourne Victory

Given the very poor performances of our Junior roos and Olyroos lately don’t think its a great idea.

But then again despite what Ange had us believe, the Footballroos coach does have a lot of spare time on their hands between tournaments.

I’m sure Lowy has also given him a few shifts pulling beers at the Hakoah Club on weekends.

There’s a huge conflict of interest too, if Arnie just uses the Olyroos and U23s as a holding pen for fringe Footballroos. Younger players may get less chances to progress.
