..and thanks for your congratulations to the 12, then 11 man Roosters team for their brave effort in the 2nd half.

Young send-off 'over the top', Radley sin-bin 'ridiculous' says Robbo as Roosters reduced to 11 on nightmare night

The Roosters for a number of years in a row were the most penalised team in the NRL. Many said ‘well, it’s because they are ill-disciplined!’ Yet it was then revealed that they also RECEIVED the least amount of penalties, which if anything, goes to show bias against them. I think the perception of favouritism from the public comes more from disliking certain teams.

You didn’t really have to go further than “Accor stadium is the worse stadium ever“.

I agree there was a chance he could get there. What I don’t agree with is that JWH glancing in his direction means any more than the fact that Edwards had a good view of JWH. A freight train doesn’t stop that quick. Did Edwards run intentionally into Jared? Maybe. After all, he did manage to swerve around the referee. What I’m confused about is the fact (according to NRL360) that although the ref rules black and white, the bunker has the discretionary powers, it’s why Penrith weren’t penalised when they scored. Speaking of ‘looking’, I believe the bunker is often fooled by attackers running into players to catch bombs when they say “the player never takes his eye off the ball”…there is such as thing as peripheral vision.

Obstruction turning a 'simple' game into complicated mess of decoys and defenders milking penalties

I’m of the opinion that he’s signed a contract and he’s needed. Flanagan should be playing proper hard ball and take a leaf out of George from Seinfeld’s book – to paraphrase: “You’re not happy?!…Well, you GET happy!!”

NRL News: Walker confused by 'weirdest obstruction' calls, Lomax to Eels delay frustrates Arthur, Dragons eye off Turuva

I was very impressed with the way Bostock didn’t react to the unnecessary rubbing the head and pushing after his dropped bomb. Then scored a great try and didn’t even glance at his taunter, who was right on the scene.

Des despondent as 'inexcusable' Titans battered by Dolphins - but should hip-drop have been a send-off?

So, about two episodes of Married at First Sight.

'Every time we do black and white, it doesn't work': Does anyone actually understand the obstruction rule?

With the constant threat of being penalised using decoy runners, how long before we get a coach who stops using them altogether?

'Every time we do black and white, it doesn't work': Does anyone actually understand the obstruction rule?

It’s been a problem for a few years. And when Penrith are monstering all over the field in defence, it doesn’t get any easier. There was a fair bit of standing back and watching last night when defending near their own line. When they did move forward and put pressure on, they forced some errors. They hung in there, so it’s not all doom and gloom. I wouldn’t write off those late tries like many are doing. Collins coming back will help, and don’t know what Billy Smith has to do to get a run, but the Panthers are a relentless machine who look like they’ve got an iron grip on that Premiership trophy!

Annesley admits Roosters were robbed as obstruction rules come under blowtorch despite Panthers' statement win

V’landys did say they’d take a look at it if they ‘offer it to us’…maybe they’d take it if it was free? But I guess ‘taking a look’ is non-committal.

'I don't have spare dollars': Death sentence for Leichhardt as NSW Premier rejects Tigers' reno plans

I’m no economist, but I can see the benefits of the NRL buying Leichhardt, fixing the problems and leasing it for all types of sporting events. A glance at the upcoming events there shows it’s a pretty busy place, with A-League Women, NPL Soccer, Balmain jnrs, rugby league jnr rep games, schoolboy rugby, etc. I’ve been there a number of times over the years for NSW Cup games and finals, as well as A-League games, and it’s a great venue for those. They could use it for 1 or 2 NRL games against the odd interstate team that would only have a small away contingent. (I’ll sit on the hill at Henson Park, but standing on a tightly-packed hill, stretching to see around people has never been my favourite way to watch a game).

'I don't have spare dollars': Death sentence for Leichhardt as NSW Premier rejects Tigers' reno plans

It’s been a while since I’ve been to Concord and haven’t seen the redeveloped product yet. The eastern stand wasn’t a great design (if it’s still there?), and terrible if there was a full crowd (when they used to have rugby internationals). The grade was too low, and whenever the play got anywhere near the vicinity of one of the near corners, people in the lower tier seats in front of the main stand had to stand, creating a domino effect right up to the top. You couldn’t see a thing! All you could do is wait to see if there were cheers or not.

The whole ‘rorters’ thing never adds up if you pay attention. They are looking for a long-term replacement for Tedesco, and its not for next year, it’s for 2026, or even 2028. Suaalii is leaving at the end of the year (because he can make more money elsewhere). They’re also resigned to losing Joey Manu at the end of the year (because he can make more money elsewhere). When and if he came, Tupou would also be either retired or at least getting the $200,000 long-serving player allowance). The money is only speculative, but it could be about that considering he would be playing fullback, maybe he would do an apprenticeship on the wing. Also, given the trend, the salary cap is likely to be more then.

NRL News: Panthers unfazed by Cleary injury, Sivo tightens up tackling technique to avoid further bans

Yes, the Roosters logo is on the eastern side, the Waratahs and Syd FC are on the western side. My parents took me to Penrith Park when the eastern side was just a small hill (ants invaded our attempt to eat a chicken). We could see empty paddocks for miles, where apparently they were going to build something called ‘Panthers’.

'It’s pointless us playing here': Richo's grave warning on Leichhardt as Tigers take aim at 'gold urinals' Panthers

Penrith have the support to warrant a decent stadium, and the more improved facilities the wider of areas of Sydney can get, the better. The rebuild of Moore Park, IMO, was totally unnecessary for rugby league, though, and the views in the new stadium aren’t even as good as the old!…There are too few seats in the lower tier. The upgrading and re-positioning of corporate facilities was probably a big factor in the decision, and the governments desire to attract international sports events like the FIFA Womens World Cup there with a shiny new stadium. The problems they had could have been fixed at a fraction of the cost and then there would’ve been money to go ahead and fix Accor Stadium into a decent ground to watch football. Now unfortunately, it remains the worst stadium in the country for it. It is not just the Roosters’ stadium though, it is Sydney FC, Waratahs and internationals, as well as a concert venue (and no doubt one day those pesky roving rabbits will want to come back).

'It’s pointless us playing here': Richo's grave warning on Leichhardt as Tigers take aim at 'gold urinals' Panthers

They were talking on NRL360 last night it was because Penrith is a swinging vote area, while the Leichhardt area is a Labor stronghold (Anthony Albanese’s seat), so there’s nothing politically to gain from it.

There was an R-rated version, but I didn’t want to go there.

'If the NRL are serious about concussions, where does this sit?' Kevvie fires up after May escapes ban for Walsh's fracture

Good piece, Tony. I was devastated when Latrell left the Roosters. He was the best centre in the world and one of the major reasons they won back-to-back competitions, and I would certainly never ‘boo’ him. He probably needs to focus on the game, his fitness, and work out whether fullback is really his position (as does JD!).

Latrell's not walking the walk after talking the talk: Souths should be worried after star goes missing against Roosters

Wow! After reading all those comments, I’m not prepared to put the boot in (tho we do remember jibing comments from some in the past!). Three tough teams for Souths to start off with (though I will say that for the Roosters, starting off with the Broncos, Sea Eagles, Souths and Penrith ain’t no picnic either!), and a few players to come back, so no need to hand your members badges back just yet..but could the ‘muffin top’ comment about the Souths players in the sheds be the most pertinent one? Roosters fans aren’t getting carried away. Great win, especially after snuffing out the comeback, and Sandon Smith taking charge confidently after Walker’s exit, but they’re facing a massive test against the benchmark next week. There were a couple of defensive lapses last night that would be punished by the Panthers. But the best start to a season in years and such a win last night is cause for a certain lightness in the step of those around me on the tough streets of Bondi today (or is that just one of the many female gym classes set up in old shops around here flying past?). As for the sin-binning, to cut a long story short, though Latrell was ill-advised to do what he did, I thought it was harsh, it was play on for me (I was just annoyed the ball was kicked in the first place!).

Demetriou has 'no doubt' he can turn around Souths after disaster derby sees Latrell binned in Roosters riot

When I saw him clap on the speed toward the line for the first try, I genuinely thought: ‘Slow down, you don’t need to go so fast…you’ll tear a hammy!’

The executive team is probably where he picked it up.

It’d be less emotive if the media just said ‘not picked’. Players are not meant to have the luxury of being automatically picked each week, they are supposed to earn it, and it’s up to the coach – whether they’re right or wrong – to pick the squad he thinks is best for the team. Players are of course disappointed, but the good ones just get on with the job of fighting their way back. Should be interesting watching the four halves in the Rabbitohs-Roosters game. One on NRL debut, another with very little starting line-up experience.

Drop it: Ilias and Hastings weren't selected, but saying they were dropped might miss the point entirely

Jennings has been named in the NSW Cup team also, which is now being played as a curtain-raiser. I’d prefer Billy Smith be in at centre than Suaailii. I guess we’ll get a better idea of what’s going on when the NSW Cup team runs out….or maybe three ‘Smiths’ in the team was one too many.
