Can NSW fans handle an Origin ‘rebuild’?
On top of players being in form we need an old school Blues culture in the camp and especially in the leadership group, this has been missing for over a decade. Too long have the Blues tried to win series on talent alone, Mal Meninga found the formula for Origin, talent, passion for the jersey and passion for the state. QLD haven’t looked back
It was evident for Fittler what passion can do during his World Cup campaign with Lebanon, a team that batted well above their weight for the whole tournament. If NSW is going to win they need to pick the right players for the Jersey not because they are in form which means a new captain and a new strategy. Gutherson is a must somewhere in the team and so is Nathan Brown, Croker from Canberra is a an overlooked Blues talent for years that bleeds for his jersey week in and week out, The two Trbojevics are no brainers give them a blues Jersey and they will find their form. Both of them love the game and play for the game.
Fittler needs to find the heart in each team in the competition and if they qualify for NSW pick them.

We haven’t had a consistent spine for as long as I can remember, we are basically rebuilding every year.
Daley was the first Blues coach in forever to do what Queensland has done for the last 12 years, have the faith in his team across all 3 games, this was being called for by so many experts of the game and so many fans. Shockingly but not surprisingly when it didn’t work mainly because his faith was in the wrong players, he was criticized for it and shown the door.
When Brad Fittler posts a complete new team this year I don’t believe he will be thinking of it as rebuilding phase because that leads to a forgone conclusion that you are not going to win. That is not Brad Fittler, say what you want about him but the man is a winner and the team he picks will not be about the future it will be about winning the title in 2018. Come Origin 1 I guarantee they won’t have had any discussion of rebuilding when the whistle blows.

Totally Agree, even without the conference idea ensuring everyone plays once before the 2nd round of games should be a no brainier. I think the point of Burnie Gurrs Idea was to spark the conversation and get some kind of change, but instead it went mostly unnoticed and the NRL has continued on their merry way creating a joke of a drawer where you can play 4 teams twice in 9 weeks.
It was also about finding a justifiable way to reduce the games played and hence reduce player fatigue by allowing for the standalone origin and tests series. We want to see our teams play at full strength and still have our Origin Fix, I feel for the Dragons this year with an estimated 6 players likely to be picked for NSW, not to mention two key players potentially heading overseas for the Denver Test.

I think the idea for the conference is to create further rivalry across the competition. If your team isn’t performing you may be forgiven for cheering another team through the final series from your conference.

I’d say Barrett has found himself is a similar battle to that of Neil Henry, he has a multi million dollar player he has to manage that isn’t worth the money he’s being paid and the board is telling him to sort it out, 10 mil for 10 years trumps Hastings simple as that and the other players are dirty. There is a reason why DCE can’t buy an Origin spot and it has to do with culture, a player who places himself above everyone else doesn’t fit the Queensland culture, the kids good but he’s not that good.

I had no idea why gutho was even in the Parramatta starting 13 until he put on the number 1 up until that point I would have agreed. Since then he has become a great player in skill and out right passion. Definitely not overrated
