Anyone who as ever played (ie any of us included) would say yes at least for the former game Aussie Rules. Detractors of ruck value include Grant Thomas, Gary Lyon and (secretly) Ken Hinkley. I can only watch these new slapping competitions on youtube for only a little while. Even our rudimentary knowledge of CTE should prohibit any head high contact. Who hasnt seen a relatively innocous contacts impact to a player who has previous trauma. Didnt Buddy get suspended for doing this to Cotchin who initiated it all by holds blocking etc for arguably a lighter hit? Again the outcome again by the AFL MRO. Stoopid

Cheers Scyphus! Even talking about them shows you get it. Ottens was much underrated. I asked months ago what changed for Gawn as I remember him being bossed and pushed around. The aggregation of his improvement has made him a top tier player and the lessons would worthwhile to other young players
