AD – always enjoy your contributions but I must admit when I saw you were the author of this article I thoigh he must be a sadist! Mind you the comments haven’t been that bad.
As for thw rankings I agree with a lot of them except:
Cats- I think they have the potential to really drop. Surely there have to ve some question marks on hiw Ablett will go this year? I think he’ll still be great but I don’t think he’ll be able to provide the firepower the cats need. Their forward line looks vulnerable. Danger is going to have to have another PB season and Selwood too.
GWS- If they finally get some luck on the injury front I think they’ll be higher than 6th. Too much talent to not be.
Blues- tipping higher than 15th
Saints- could be anywhere from 12th to 6th
Swans far too low. Port, Crows, Nth all to finish lower than the Swans
Would have definitely had Freo lower if Lyon was coach but now who knows… maybe they’ll find the goals a bit more?

AFL Power Rankings: 2019 Trade Period

Cam,

You really do make some good points but it does feel like you are looking at them through a glass half empty lens. I think a number of points you make could easily go the opposite way.
Also you haven’t mentioned Mitchell Lewis? There are some big raps on him and he could be that tall we are looking for. You don’t think Scrimshaw is goid enough yet? I suspect he will be a project player thus year and into our best 22 in 2020.

2019 AFL season preview: Hawthorn Hawks

I don’t understand your quote.. I guess what I mean is when people argue blindy and agressively how good their team is then it becomes cringe worthy.
I know I’m fairly one-eyed Hawks supporter and therefore will always believe that they can win the whole thing but at the same time I do try to take on board other perspectives. Does that make sense?

It's time to bring the fun back to AFL in 2019

Healthy debate..sure I love healthy debate but some of the posts seem to take it so personally if someone disagrees with them and then dispareges the other posters. That’s not healthy and nor is it good debating. A well argued point with balanced info and perspective. You seem to be balanced as does AD. I cringe when some Hawks posters on here can’t see a balanced view of our brilliant team.

AD- you are making too much sense but I love it and think we need to go one step further. From now on any comments that are deemed ridicule or negative or imbecilic there is a “swear jar” and people have to put a dollar in! Not sure how that practically works….
Ryan- I’m a Hawks fan and I agree with you. Dees look incredible and so balanced across the board. It’s hard to see Lewis remaining in their best 22 this year. I also like your positivity theme/attitude for this year.

It's time to bring the fun back to AFL in 2019

Josh I’m with the crowd on this one. Maybe a bit of a knee jerk reaction on your side based on how close this season was?Maybe this is to help the Roos avoid a slide from top of the ladder in the 1st half of the season to 9th or 10 th by the end?
Perhaps you should also add your top 10 finals idea for a bottom 8 finals for the number 1 draft pick…whoever tanks the best gets the number 1 pick?

The AFL is ready for a ten-team finals series

Scribe- I would actually agree with Anon on this one. I am sure we both can make logical arguments as to why either side is correct. My logic at this current time is the sheer injuries to the Pies. Also I would put the win against the saints in context i.e. every team has a win that is just ugly. It is (IMO) that a sign of a good team is that they win when they play well below the best. The Hawks young guys have come on leaps and bounds since round 1 as has the Pies but again I think the injuries the Pies have would be the difference between them being a contender and a difficult proposition to play.

AFL Power Rankings 2018: Round 22

Move Glass to the forward line? He really isn’t having a good night. He’s played a lot better games

St Kilda Saints vs Hawthorn Hawks: AFL highlights, live scores, blog

Haha. Yeah today was not their greatest day. Do you think Ross should still be coach? Also I was stunned that Ballas was re-signed!

St Kilda Saints vs Hawthorn Hawks: AFL highlights, live scores, blog

Birdman – agree Gunston is cap material. But then so is Smith.
I think Impey is having a good game.
Think Frawley is done for the night.
Liking what I’m seeing in Miles
AD- no issue with you disliking Hawks. You fair in your dislike!?Would you be offended if I said I dislike Freo? Can’t stand Ross’s coaching

St Kilda Saints vs Hawthorn Hawks: AFL highlights, live scores, blog

Yet Chris what actual facts have you given? None really. Yes the Pies team has changed remarkably but that is due to injury. I bet you Buckley would give his left nut to have that round 1 best 22 on the park now.
Also I think you should note we aren’t all Hawks fans that are objecting to your comments

Are Hawthorn pretenders or premiership contenders?

Chris to say her comment is nonsense is ridiculous. 1st off the team that the Pies put out there was probably close to their best 22. Also at the time of the game pundits were divided as to who would win. For whatever reason Buckley didn’t have the Pies purring like he did later in the season. It was a fairly comfortable win in the end for the Hawks.
Nadia good read. Injury front will play a huge factor in a season that is incredibly even

Are Hawthorn pretenders or premiership contenders?

Bruce I really should just leave this alone but your comment is just wrong. First we have only won 3 close games. Also if you are willing to agree that a close is 15 points and under then we have lost 4 of them. 43 % record in close games. Not exactly getting us into finals. Ans then if you at our draw- 12 of the 20 games we have played are against teams still fighting for a spot in the 8. That isn’t exactly a soft draw.

Nine hot takes from AFL Round 20

What a fantastic game. Can’t pick a winner. I think if the Hawks can keep the tempo slower and precise kicking they’ll win it. If the Bombers use their speed well they’ll win. One of the best games of the season

Hawthorn Hawks vs Essendon Bombers: AFL live scores, blog

DC,
You don’t think the Hawks can handle physical pressure? How come?
On a side note this is a cracking game. That ball is flying end to end and both teams for the most part are showing great skill with the ball, great tackling.
Morrison’s effort was fantastic!

Hawthorn Hawks vs Essendon Bombers: AFL live scores, blog

Phew! I’ll take that. Looked like the bombers were going to put 5 or 6 goals on us. Liked how the Hawks were able to lift.
This shaping to be a close cracking game!

Hawthorn Hawks vs Essendon Bombers: AFL live scores, blog

Not as a Hawk fan this is looking ugly. Can’t mark, can’t kick, can’t get it in our 50. Want this quarter over!

Hawthorn Hawks vs Essendon Bombers: AFL live scores, blog

Hi James and Dingo,
Yeah I’ve certainly taken a license to my version of both team’s form lines. I’ll admit this that I wrote the bit about the Bombers prior to looking at the Hawks own form. After looking at that my points were a little dubious in comparison. I still think the Bombers are being a little bit hyped up. It just surprised me to see all 4 tip bombers. I think this will be a close game and if the same players from the win against Freo can play like they did and then we get an extra lift from players like Impey, Poppy, O’Rouke I think the Hawks will win.
I have my Hawks lens on!
I will add that a lot of commentators were saying last week that the Freo game was 50/50 and that the Hawks could have easily lost it. They made a statement last week- underestimate us at your peril!

The Roar’s AFL expert tips and predictions: Round 20

I’m a little surprised to see you all tip the Bombers. I reckon if you have a closer look at their form it’s not quite as good as it appears. I’d agree they are in form but look at who they’ve beaten since being demolished by the tigers:
Lions in Ald at the time still trying to find some competitiveness
WCE missing Kennedy and Darling
North reasonable opposition but by no means elite of the comp
Lost to the Pies
Suns at their home
Freo in Melb
Swans in Melb

Not exactly the star line up. 2 top 8 teams one with 2 significant stars out and the other so bereft of confidence they wouldn’t have beaten Carlton.
I will admit that the Hawks have been flakey and they are hard to get a read on so maybe not totally unpredictable that you would all back the Dons. But when the Hawks are switched on from the start they are hard to stop.

The Roar’s AFL expert tips and predictions: Round 20

AD- shame to lose your commentary at the Roar. Always felt it was fair and balanced. And also able to enjoy some friendly banter. Good luck with your time overseas.

AFL Power Rankings 2018: Round 18

Hi AD- Hard to argue with that. I did initially think the Swans should be further down but given the sides below it have done a whole lot to justify being higher up it makes sense. Maybe Cats and Swans should swap but that’s a 50/50 call.
Do you know if Fyfe is back next week against the Hawks? What about Sandi? Who are you tipping at this stage for that game? I think it is a difficult game to tip given it is in Freo. I’m going to tip Hawks but without confidence.
How come this is your last power rankings?Have been enjoying it each week- partly because you write well with humour and partly to see the tortured souls who take offence to your rankings!

AFL Power Rankings 2018: Round 18

AD,
I figured out a way to make this game a little more exciting! Bet a mate who supports the Blues and give them a 12 goal head start. The interest in the final result remains!?

AD I thought about reporting your comment to the roar moderators! Please Hawks win this!

Hawthorn Hawks vs Brisbane Lions: AFL live scores, blog

I almost threw the remote at the tv! The 3rd quarter certainly went up a notch.
But the Hawks are so sloppy and made such terrible mistakes.

Hawthorn Hawks vs Brisbane Lions: AFL live scores, blog

Yeah but disposal was poor for both sides. Competitive is nice but I’d love to watch good football.
