“Huge win for the NRL honestly.” Not so sure about that. The crowd was mostly Aussies who travelled and expats already there. The TV viewers numbered 100,000. Compare that to the 21 million who watched the recent NFL Superbowl on tv , with a crowd of 80,000 (I think it was )
The NRL venture to Las Vegas is not about crowds , anyway . It is , by the NRL head honcho V’Landys own straight up admission, about promoting gambling on NRL games by Americans. And he said so as if that’s a good thing. He actually said people don’t bet on Rugby League to make money , they just do it for fun . That’s what we should be talking about i reckon. The insidious irresponsible promotion of gambling.

I’ve said so too , and that the player doing the bumping should have both feet on the ground or very close to it. Leaving the ground should be penalised , not just frowned upon , which is ineffective . Maynard last year didn’t only jump , he jumped AT Brayshaw and not the ball. (And I’m neither a C’wwod hater nor supporter.)

I didn’t like the way Maynard jumped towards Brayshaw making it inevitable contact. He should have just jumped upwards – vertically – not angled towards the kicker. If he’d done that there would have been no contact with Brayshaw and he night have touched the ball or even smothered it .

Yes , it matters b/c they raised the flag and associated carrying on on the 26th. As technically chronologically correct you may be, to everyone else it commemorates the official takeover. The significance may be mis-placed (it isn’t) but Invasion Day fits.

Lots of us want a new flag. The one we’ve got is a joke. A foreign country’s flag in the corner and the Southern Cross shared with all the other Southern Hem. countries. Biggest prob. is nobody’s come up with a popular design. When that happens things will change quickly i think i hope…People have suggested we adopt the Aboriginal Flag. Had to laugh about ten years ago on the radio there was an Elder being interviewed and was asked if the Aboriginal Flag should become the national flag. “You’ve stolen everything else off us , you can bloody leave our flag alone , thank you!”

Don’t really want an argument with a fellow Hawthorn supporter , Luke, but … Ryan has shown in his three games that he’s got smarts and ability to play at top level. Hardly “unknown” as you put it. Brisbane certainly thinks he’s good enough. As for Gunston , i’d be surprised if Hawks get two good years out of him. One at the most , i reckon , and that’s if he keeps form and isn’t out injured too much. I suspect taking Gunston back was based more on sentiment than harsh reason, odd as that is in the ruthless world of list management. I’d love to see Gunston and Breust combining for goals as they did so often in the past. Just far from sure they’ll do it in the future. So we’ll have to agree to differ on this , but am sure we’re united in hoping (and expecting?) the Hawks make the Final Eight next year , better than the 10th to 13 th the “experts ” are predicting.

Gunston at Brisbane either out of form or injured. Available for Lions’ three Finals this year but not selected. Guessing this at least one of the reasons for wanting out. Fair enough. But Hawthorn swapping the promising Brandon Ryan, 25 , for the six years older Gunston with his best years behind him is a mystery. It doesn’t fit with the rebuilding with young players strategy Hawks were following. As a Hawk supporter i hope Gunston’s return works but i won’t be surprised and will be disappointed if it doesn’t.

Now way would Hawthorn want him , unless he’s happy to play for VFL side Box Hill. Over 30 , patchy form , walked out when the club wanted to keep him = def. not part of the club’s rebuilding scheme.

Well , they won seven , so not far off but still wrong. Hawks also beat the minor premiers and Flag favourites . (Coincidentally the only match i went to this year travelling from my home 1,300 kms away.)
