Agreed the amount of games played together counts. Parra dramatically overhauled their roster in 97, stacked with internationals, it took them a year to get to the semis and another 3 to get to a GF, and not many of those players were left.
I’ve mentioned elsewhere with the squad they have the dogs have to play an entirely different game, with off loads and footwork amongst the forwards. That would take even more time to develop.
It will be a tough year that’s for sure

Sorry for the solid block of writing the new paragraphs havent appeared like the version l submitted…
Trial Takeaways: Problems abound for Dogs after Sharks loss, Roosters-Souths 'reserve grade' highlights format farce
With the dogs I thought Taafe was very good in the first half but had an absolute nightmare in the second, seemed confidence was gone after his first drop.
Mahoney needs to improve his dummy half passing game, lots of poor passes.
Kikau aimed up in defence but l only remember him running with the ball twice, am hoping that was a tactic for the trial, otherwise a waste of talent
The half issue remains, all our options are just OK.
On the positives Salmon was a real workhorse in the middle in defence, Curran will be a very good buy, Hughes looks a likely lad and Xerri has surprised me considering his time out of the game.
The dogs will need to play a different type of footy this year with the squad they have, it can’t be one out hit ups and try to take the space because they lack the size, they do have a lot of forwards with decent footwork and good hands, will they develop a game to utilize that?
Last night was very much a continuation of last year and that’s a concern.

Mind numbing that the Dogs let Avarillo go, he’s a pure athlete and a pretty clever footy player. Outside of that he has speed to burn, something the Dogs have long lacked. Never got why Ciraldo started with Perham, then after some 8-10 games, where he showed glimpses, but never a whole match of ability, Ciraldo continued to stick with him.

Can you define grub Sheek? Cause l think you may have a different interpretation to most. Also when did you last like Penrith? Was it when Geyer was there? Was when Gower was there? Or was it when they weren’t winning?
So overrated he's underrated: lucrative deal awaits polarising Panther Luai wherever he signs next
Certainly a lotta hate for Luai, can understand that a bit because he’s a big personality and a bit lairy. He learnt his trade under Maloney, of course he’s going to be mouthy. Luai is a very good player who gives his centres and edge forwards clean ball and space, not many five-eights do that any more. He can be an incisive runner, he’s not afraid to put his body on the line in attack or defence. What he is not, is a grub. My definition of a grub is a player consistently using illegal and dangerous tactics to hurt his opponent. Luai is nowhere near the biggest grub in the game. You would need to turn your gaze to Bondi, Melbourne or Redcliffe to see the games genuine grubs.

Would make Sticky look like Marcel Marceau
Battered Maroons pull off stunning comeback on 'really poor' Blues to put Fittler's future in jeopardy
The RHS attack was where we broke down Frizell was going well, but Cleary didn’t mix it up with cutouts to Turbo, didn’t give clean ball to Turbo at all. Cleary and Yeo’s every play was read and they couldn’t adjust. Perhaps Cleary’s injury was affecting him so Freddy gave Teddy more work to do. Whatever was planned it wasn’t working and we didn’t have players smart and cool enough to change it

The Roar's State of Origin expert tips and predictions: NSW v Queensland, Men and Women's Game 1
I would love the Blues to win, but unless Walsh and the Hammer have absolute shockers and we are absolutely at the maximum of our ability and discipline l can’t see it happening. It is a bewildering NSW team

Welsby would be a great get, he was very good at 5/8 during the RWC, maybe a replacement for Wighton?

ANALYSIS: Foxx and Burton combine in spectacular style as Dogs sink Cowboys by copying 2015 Grand Final script
The dogs scrambled well in defence but there were holes and misses up the middle that good teams will take better advantage of than the cows tonight. We desperately need to get some bodies back from the injury ward

Cronk throws down gauntlet to Walker 'he needs to improve' - and the area he has to work on for Roosters to fire
Doorey is a good get, as a Bulldogs fan l thought it was a mistake to let him go…think of him as 75% Reni Matua (at his best) and that’s pretty good to me. You’ll get way more out of him than Brown…but he’s gotta stay healthy had a few niggles over the years
Seven out of eight NRL finals spots look certain, but who will force their way into the equation?
That was some performance by the Jillaroos, a joy to watch. The Kiwis were smashing them but they couldn’t keep up the intensity over each half. Jillaroos kept their cool and played brilliantly. That Kiwi 13 was salty the whole game, tough competitor but some real nasty niggle in the tackles. Looking forward now to the mens
Da Ali B Show: Brilliant Brigginshaw leads Jillaroos to third World Cup on the spin
You need to define grub l think. Luai’s not even near the top 20 “grubs” in the game. Yep he’s mouthy, he’s arrogant, and a niggler no way a “grub”. Roosters, Melbourne, Souths, have way more offensive players who consistently do genuinely illegal, injuring, grubby things than Luai or Penrith ever do.
MATCH REPORT - The Cat Empire: Panthers dynasty beckons after caning Eels to win back-to-back titles
Agreed with the comments TB,a far better dogs outfit than the last 18mths.
Still don’t know how Walker didn’t get put in the bin for pushing Flanagan, then connecting with his head, sparking an altercation when there was nothing doing. After that Walker was involved in 2 tries when he shouldn’t have been on the field.
Happy to watch the dogs these days, it’s been a while
The Latrell Show: Mitchell turns up big as Rabbitohs put bite on Bulldogs in high-scoring thriller
Funny I think the Dogs are a fair bit better than last year in attack, they look like they’re trying for more offloads and mixing it up a bit more. Their defence seems to have gone backwards. Part of the problem today was TPJ being on the field for longer than normal, he ran well, but is just not fit enough or mobile enough for extended periods on the park. Dufty was our most threatening in attack, but weak in defence, I still think he’s more of a threat than Meaney was last year and finally I though Flanagan went OK, a lot better than any game last year. Final comment is it takes time for players to gel, even really good ones, Ben Darwin and Rugby League Digest podcast had a really interesting discussion on this referencing the Eels team of 1997. – highly recommended listening. The Dogs will need to play a lot more games together and get a feel for how everyone plays before they become a better attacking and defensive unit. Finally we have had an extremely tough opening 6 weeks with only 2 teams that weren’t finalist last year. I would expect us to improve dramatically by week 18 this year and look a lot better moving into 2023. If 2023 is more of the same then Trent will be gone by week 10.

League legend Royce Simmons reveals Alzheimer's battle, ready for fight of his life
Foxx always commits, always tries to lift players around him, he is an asset to any team, and l love that he’s playing with the Dogs. Tracy has definitely moved past Taafe as FB, runs harder, makes more ground and has less errors in him.
