Coker SBW has 3 years in Toulon learning to play rugby before he went to Canterbury, Tana Umaga was his first coach. Funny isn’t it? Players learn to play game all over the world, and Hamish maybe forgot that part of SBW changing when writing article.

Hansen's done Joey Manu no favours comparing him to SBW. He'll be more like RTS - and Foz is the reason why

I not sure who does robbo, but just saying that broadcaster would surely be reponsible for clock in broadcast. Not even knocking anyone, but you do bring up point, and I genuinely wonder who does do Drua home games?

The Wrap: Why SANZAAR must hold Frank Lomani accountable for 'going back for his hat'

Kiwi, I hope the coaches are not changed mid season ever. I understand it’s the thing to do perhaps some places , we all saw Rennie dumped mid term etc and see it in may sports, I of opinion if you sign a coach fro a term, you see it out, I sure most coaches have a plan for the term op contract etc, and if you thought ot right plan you have to stick with it. Will say with Crusaders they looking lost, but saying there 9 ABs or ex ABs in squad on weekend was perhaps not taking into account that 3 of them at least are well past use by dates, and a couple have or seem to be pretty fleeting times in the jersey. Hell I a Canes man, and the Crusaders problems don’t worry me a lot, but I suspect if they sacked Penney now , it would probably cause more problems than it would fix, unless you can tell me better coaches after job of course. I do wonder if mix of coaches is right there though, but see it out.

Another interesting article Geoff, but have to admit I didn[‘t notice the tv clock in Canes game. But begs question, is it Super rugby’s fault or Stan as the broadcaster if the tv clock is wrong? I know the trendy thing to do is blame the body running the game, but I would think Stan tv is the one running tv broadcast and the timing on screen?

I personally pretty happy to see how this deal has gone through too. Not just a matter of Barrett making deal and then saying I off, but not only his agent has talked with Leinster, but NZR (and Razor Robertson) have been part of discussions, just trying to make sure no doubt he doesn’t come back burnt out. Also think it will do Jordie good playing in another comp, with no doubt differing training methods and styles of play.

All Blacks star signs surprise short-term deal with Irish heavyweights

Yep Geoff I agree with almost all you saying. On the Rebel beating the Highlanders, I thought from what I saw on tv, Rebels were well worth their win, playing a pretty good effective game, really enjoyed the game (even as a kiwi), just enjoy good rugby. Got criticised for saying how average the Crusaders and Tahs looked the night before, was an exciting game, but certainly looked like a couple of cellar dwelling teams playing. I actually thought another little highlight for me was when the Canes’ Kini Naholo scored a try, TMO alerted ref Doleman to what he thought was fould play in a clean out, Doleman looked at it and (correctly in my opinion) said no he was low, wraaped his arm etc so it stands. Was one of best things I noted on weekend, and would add to that in Crusader/Tahs game how well I thought Nic Berry reffed with quick decisions on tries etc, no wasted time, and TMO still has chance to come in if needed. I enjoy seeing the ref actually reffing the game!.

The Wrap: Crusaders' shot clock fiasco and shhh, don’t put the moz on Darby

TJ you exact kind of person that Barnes etc talk of when they say they had enough and pack in reffing. I have yet to see a ref make as many mistakes as the players ever!

'Kid wonder': Lancaster, Gordon shine as Rebels take one giant step in locking in maiden Super Rugby finals berth

Geez RN, I actually found the errors the night before ruined it for me. I thought the Tahs.Crusaders was exciting because the score changed so often, but most seem to come from mistakes etc. Perhaps I noticed as I was pretty neutral who won, and so was watching rugby just because it was rugby?

'Kid wonder': Lancaster, Gordon shine as Rebels take one giant step in locking in maiden Super Rugby finals berth

This Rebels team is an enjoyable team to watch, and well worth the win. To me this was a good game, and enjoyed more than Tahs/Saders , the best team won than seemingly the worst team lost if you understand my reasoning? Rebels genuinely look a finals bound team to me.

'Kid wonder': Lancaster, Gordon shine as Rebels take one giant step in locking in maiden Super Rugby finals berth

Nothing to do with result Gary, but if you thought that was a high standard game, well pleased for you. Tahs definitely deserved the win, but you could see they were a couple of bottom of ladder teams. Or did I miss something, and they have been lighting up the comp with high quality rugby. Seen a few of Crusaders games, and most have been same, they look like they are struggling, and really seem to be bumbling along. Haven’t seen all of Tahs games, but what I have they have been similar. And I made the comment about standard of game just as Crusaders scored what looked like winning try, my exact words were both seemed to see who could lose, defence was optional most of game it looked to me. Will add it was better than the MP/Reds game before it though. Good game to me was Reds/Brumbies last week and games like that.

'Last few years have been hell': Iceman 2.0 Harrison gets 'dream come true' in Tahs' stunning golden point win

Yep JD, shows that the score changing can still make a game exciting etc. The quality of play certainly didn’t, a couple of bog average teams it looked to me, but with optional defence etc, we get score changing all through game, and better of 2 teams deservedly won.

'Last few years have been hell': Iceman 2.0 Harrison gets 'dream come true' in Tahs' stunning golden point win

Geez Tony he threw the arm into the head, the midrif is way down the body mate!!! Was just dumb unfortunately!

'Brain explosion': Wallaby stars sent off as Queensland left red-faced in Moana Pasifika shocker

Hey to read it, I wasn’t suggesting it you doing the namecalling, I just said (and I meant in general) about the irony of posters that do it. Apologies if you thought I meant you. The only part for you was a reply when you assumed (or certainly hinted strongly) the mitigating reason for reducing sentence was racial abuse, which was original reply.

Lomani gets huge discount on ban for shocking elbow after guilty plea, teammate has penalty halved

No but I glad you said you guessing, which is my point.
You miss the point, about identity, I saying it’s (to me) amusing that some would call anyone a coward, or cowardly acts etc while doing it behind a keyboard etc, I not sure insulting anyone or calling them names while in hiding is particularly brave. Just a thing of mine why I refuse to make personal attacks on players, admins etc, and hell I use my own name. See the likes of Geoff and the writers of articles I accept as they standing by their thoughts etc publicly.

Lomani gets huge discount on ban for shocking elbow after guilty plea, teammate has penalty halved

Who said that the abuse was reason for reducing the sentence?? See seems we all do a lot of guessing etc, and reading many posts in here I wonder if any can see the irony. I think Lomani’s act deserved the long ban (if not longer etc). The irony of some of the posts is faceless people writing under non de plumes calling the act cowardice etc, is that not the pot calling the kettle etc?

Lomani gets huge discount on ban for shocking elbow after guilty plea, teammate has penalty halved

Well Darcy Swain got 2 weeks for a headbutt in a test without there being too much outrage, so that probably consistent. On Lomani I not sure what it should be, but seems not far off what I would of expected, though not sure whether or not it could/should of been a bit more.

I think it’s great. Another rugby comp to get into. Will no doubt have plaenty of naysayers who will pick it to pieces , but I can see plenty of upsides!

'I'm a big fan': Kiss throws weight behind Club World Cup as Europe and Super Rugby agree to new tournament

Yep agree they have to spend money on 2 comps mate. But as I say I see ads for super and generally not for NPC. But agree they would spend a lot more on 2 comps than they would on one. They don’t film and broadcast themselves!

The Wrap: 'Take them to a dark place' - A quiet round grabs eyeballs for all the wrong reasons

I would actually suggest over here in NZ they actually advertise Super more than NPC Brendan. Funny thing is I can go to golf club, and a lot there are what I call casual fans ( just watch on tv etc and not attend games), most will talk about who Taranaki have got or how they went during NPC, than will discuss same with Super. Go figure huh?

The Wrap: 'Take them to a dark place' - A quiet round grabs eyeballs for all the wrong reasons

Probably would up to a point JD, but I and a lot of us rugby people wouldn’t over here.

The Wrap: 'Take them to a dark place' - A quiet round grabs eyeballs for all the wrong reasons

Well if the comp went longer it would be without test players and there would still be a problem. I don’t think anyone could afford to be in a comp where they had to cover enough players to be without test players at time of coming into finals. We are buggered with the size of the countires etc.

The Wrap: 'Take them to a dark place' - A quiet round grabs eyeballs for all the wrong reasons

I would suggest that broadcasters have always had huge say in what or how comp is run? Didn’t Stan hold off signing up to rugby until they knew NZ and Aus were in agreement on super rugby? And Sky tv have said after new tv deal comes they will be probably wanting to change the amount of live tv of NPC and FPC as production cost are just so high. They will have more delayed and maybe less productions(cameras?) at some of the games. Has always been case, we used to comment that games of NRC were kicked off when TV told them it was right time etc. And why do we all think that the games are all at night? It’s not to get crowds and especially families in, pro rugby unfortunately meant bowing to tv paymasters!

The Wrap: 'Take them to a dark place' - A quiet round grabs eyeballs for all the wrong reasons

Yeah?? Mind you it seems right, with all due respect to Force fans, might as well get it another past it player to join the rest in collecting their pension?

Beale's back! Wallabies star joins Western Force after injury opens the door for veteran's return

Geez I hope this has legs!! As a kiwi from this side of the ditch, I have no idea of problems of getting to stadium etc if it is difficult. But I just admit to being a rugby man, and don’t want any club anywhere to fold for economic reasons. Besides they look like they building a team that will be competitive there!

PE backed consortium 'in final stages' to save Melbourne Rebels with $30m injection and link with A-League club

Morning Geoff, good to get up and have a read of column as usual on a Monday. I must admit to being one who doesn’t quite understand the situation with Rebels and not just because I live in NZ. Seems some things get released/said to media that perhaps paint one side or other as problem, so I just wait and hope they get it sorted, I take no pleasure in any club in world suffering for financial reasons. On games, as a Canes man ,I was and am stoked with how they going, and gutted about Roigard’s injury. But they are a fun team to support always, and this year are building my hopes up even more. For all the brilliance in backline, that forward pack is where the biggest improvement is, loosies, who do you leave out etc, . I stayed up and the watched Reds Brumbies, and what a match that was too, loved it, great intensity and plenty of skill shown. All in all (apart form the RA/Rebels schmozzle) it’s a good time (well for always is) to be a rugby man!!

The Wrap: Good news and bad news for Rugby Australia as Brumbies and Rebels win local derbies
