I recommend you read this article; I’ll think you find that the term ‘un-Australian’ is a pejorative term used mostly by imbeciles: http://thepublicapology.net/2014/01/dear-australia-quit-it-with-the-un-australian-thing/
Is Bernard Tomic the definition of unAustralian?
Yeah any of those old-timey blokes would do.

You’re probably right there, except for the sleep part.
FitzSimons vs Waterhouse: the lesser of two evils?
Hi Peter,
To clear things up, the visage comment wasn’t in reference to you. But I actually do appreciate your feedback and that you’ve taken the time to reply. I shouldn’t have used the word ‘livelihood’, agreed (perhaps reputation would have been more apt, if anything) – but I stick by the rest of my article; it’s a personal opinion. The Roar wouldn’t have published this if it wasn’t going to inspire debate; you’d be very familiar with the technique of using shock value to bring in readers. I’m not a sports writer by profession and don’t pretend to be.
Cheers,
Dave
FitzSimons vs Waterhouse: the lesser of two evils?
Fair enough on the livelihood thing. But I’m not sure why you need to throw down some kind of betting challenge to me; it seems rather ironic given the subject that’d you’d even advocate a bet.
Your contrarian style of writing ensures this won’t be the last lawsuit you face. We get it, you’re being sued by Tom Waterhouse, you’ve made that abundantly clear. Just stop bringing yourself into these discussions and stick to the real issue: removing betting advertising from live sports coverage.
FitzSimons vs Waterhouse: the lesser of two evils?
It feels like it is getting personal, though. FitzSimons has a very belligerent style and while I agree wholeheartedly with his stance against TV betting ads, I just don’t really like how he’s shaping it as a battle between himself and Waterhouse: a battle of the personalities. There’s something deeply narcissistic about that.
But really, all I’m trying to do with this article is throw a few comments out there and see what the Roar community comes up with!

Pretty hard to write an opinion piece without the use of ‘I’…

Thanks for the response, agree with all of your sentiments.
Barba's downfall: Blaming the ‘fishbowl’ for everything
This awful Fishbowl Syndrome will kill us all!
Barba's downfall: Blaming the ‘fishbowl’ for everything
Ironic seeing I wrote the original article, but well played.

But I’m not entirely sure the issues are medical, hence it would be misleading to brush it all off as a ‘mental health issue’ (and disrespectful to those suffering from actual mental illness).
That said, addiction to alcohol and gambling is certainly a mental health issue… but from what I’ve read his problems are behavioural rather than medical.
Long story short, it’s a shame he’s not going to be playing this year, but I think he’ll be judged positively for taking these steps in the longer term.

Tendulkar wasn’t hiding behind Dravid, but it helped to have a rock solid number 3 ahead of him to take the shine off the ball, certainly.
Who says Clarke will fail at three? And who says someone else wouldn’t succeed at 5, if given the opportunity? It’s worth a shot to try and get some balance in the line up. II’m sure Clarke would hit a lot of runs if he batted 7 or 8 as well, but that’s not beneficial to the team.
The idea of protecting average was a joke, by the way.
Why Clarke needs to move up the batting order
I admire your tenacity, Johnno. But I wouldn’t put Steve Waugh up there as a ‘great’; he had massive problems with the short ball. And Tendulkar batted 4 because he was protected by Dravid for most of his career.
Given the lack of alternative options, it makes sense to put Clarke at three and drop Watson down to the middle order (preferably at 6, with Hussey in at 5).
I know everyone loves to pick their own batting order, but that’s just what I’d do given the current situation.
Why Clarke needs to move up the batting order
Lighten up mate – and spend less time trolling online. Geez, if you’re going to have such a long-winded crack at me about grammar, then at least spell ‘grammar’ correctly. I also don’t really appreciate the reference to Michael Richards.
FYI, the editing error was made by The Roar subbies – but that’s neither here nor there.

Wonderful writing. Australian cricket is all about being hard and fast. Not smart. Hard. And fast.
