Hi Jez, sorry I was not clear. I am not saying cut any club that needs a bail out. I am saying that if you are going to bail out a side by giving them $500K then give all sides the same amount of money. Ultimately, yes – provide an appropriate amount of funding that negates a bailout.
Rebels told they will play Super Rugby in 2024 but future on shaky ground as voluntary administration looms
Taragone, I agree that Melbourne was not the right market. Maybe a second NSW team like a NSW country based in Bathurst might have been a better idea.

“I think it’s highly likely that BRC Capital has kept the Rebels afloat through a period where they had no home games for 2 seasons”
That is probably a fair point TWAS. It was the sacrifice of the Rebels and its players that allowed us to have some form of a competition that worked. Force also had challenges in this space.

“Tell me, why did RA bail out the Tahs for a heftier debt but not the Rebels for less than double digits?”.
Because it is the ‘Tahs and they got onboard the centralisation train early to make that happen.

Why should RA bail out the Rebels again? If they were dead set they could hand over the $500,000 but then they should do that for all the clubs.
I want the Rebels to be viable, I want VIC rugby to be viable, but it turns out they aren’t. They got favourable treatment from RA in the past; avoided the axe when the Force were cut and had debts forgiven.

And yet they sent the auditors into the Brumbies to see what their financial liabilities were and if they were trading insolvent. Turns out it was the Rebels, the team that was bailed out by the ARU on at least one occasion, were the ones in real strife.

I will be transparent. I was initially OK with Eddie’s appointment, not how it happened but thought he had the chops to make it work. I knew he would micromanage but I thought in some areas micromanaging was required.
Clearly, I was wrong.

Lonergan. Added bonus, over 70% success rate with the shoe.

This is crap behaviour. As a coach if I drop a player I talk to them personally and do not delegate to a team manager. I articulate the why’s of the decision and answer any questions the player has.
For people that make the squad it is not as important but to have a player wondering why they have been dropped is just stupid.

Ryan Lonergan, yes

Revealed: Why Rugby Australia won't break the bank on Origin star, NRL chair's pot-shot at embattled code
Happy to concede that but my point stands that they are investing in the wrong areas. Apparently, Crichton was a centre at school (my bad I thought he was a loosie). Do we need one of those? Or a winger? Nope we need someone who can control a side and get them round the paddock. Not sure Gordon is it. Pretty sure Donaldson isn’t. Maybe Lynagh, surely talking to dad he would have learnt something. Loloseio is probably a bit burnt by the experience of the last two years and will do one of two things, play the house down and prove that Bernie is right and Eddie and Dave are wrong or bugger off somewhere else for the cash and to develop his game.
Besieged Wallabies throw lucrative deal at Crichton in bid to lure Roosters star back to rugby - with a Super twist
Our core problem is that we do not have world class play makers. How does signing an untested winger in Joseph Suiaali and a guy who has not played the game in 10 years who is a forward going to change that? If you are going to spend a boatload of cash can we spend it on a half or 5/8?

An accomplice as it were.

I hate Horan as a commentator even more than I hated Kearns. His unabashed love for players that have not really delivered on the promise e.g. O’Connor and Petia gets right up my nose because if they are playing it is like there is nobody else on the field.
Very disappointed that STAN took him on.
'Disaster': Wallabies hammered by Boks as Eddie Jones' return falls flat
Disappointed that there was not the usual too many Brumbies taking up space in the squad for better Reds or Wilson > Valetini.

That’s good news Brett. In the model I have in my mind there are already 32 contracted players in each franchise (already being paid) that only a finite number are being selected for higher honours (13 worst case scenario) that they could leverage. Need some additional funding of course for travel though.
AS to building a competition structure I am sure that is not insurmountable.
Fine margins: The key ingredient Brumbies must find to take the step from semi losers to Super stars
I have suggested on a number of occasions that there is an opportunity to use the contracted players from the franchises that do not make Wallabies selection and others from their local competitions; Hospital Cup, Shute Shield and John I Dent cups to be the starting point for a third tier professional competition. They would continue to play under their current identities (Brumbies, Reds, Force etc.) allowing the current tribalism to continue. I would propose that the competition would commence two weeks after end of the Super Rugby season and that games played on a Wednesday night on a home and away basis with to prevent clashes with Rugby League (byes when State of Origin is on), Aussie Rules and Test Matches. Top two sides could then play each other in a one off or best of three finals series.
This would provide a minimum of 11 more games, more opportunities for Stan to attract additional subscribers, more opportunity for Rugby Australia to promote the sport and exposure to fringe players that are paid money to hold a tackle pad to actually playing the game at a high level. Another advantage to this is that players that do not make the Wallabies squad will be match fit when and if they are called up due to injury. Additionally, this model would allow for better and longer use of the facilities used by the franchises, allow assistant coaches to get some experience as head coaches (leaving franchise head coaches to prepare for the next season), existing franchise sponsors might also achieve more bang for their sponsorship dollars and provide non-franchise players with exposure at the highest level.
What we need to do is then get a major sponsor, I acknowledge this is a tough ask but more likely to occur if there is a product to sell to potential sponsors.

My advice Brett is to not engage with Jimbo. His rants are based on a Reds are better (when they aren’t) and a logic that says that making the finals is failure. You cannot get him to provide any evidence to support his case and when asked who he would select there are crickets and tumbleweeds. Not worth the keystrokes or the zeros and ones used to transmit the data.

Personally, I would like to see Bazball against a quality Aussie attack. I suspect it will be very hard to execute in a second innings chasing 450+. I reckon they will go into their shells pretty quickly if they are three or four down chasing not many.
Ashes Scout: Smith injury scare, England cut key bowler in final XI, Brook taunts Aussie attack
“They do when the crowd is… insipid.” the crowd was hardly “insipid” they were louder and more fired up than they have for years (I have only missed a handful of home games since the Brumbies started) and it felt like the halcyon days of the early 2000’s. Schoup was playing up to it.
The Wrap: Super Rugby’s semi-final cream rises to the top
All good Jez
