Holman will bounce back with regular playing time and plenty of sun, surf and beaches.
He’ll be in the Brazil squad, no doubt and will play an important role too, even if its just keeping Harry Kewell amused.

Holman set to leave Villa for Dubai club

The AFL is a business and rightly sets the draw to maximise attendances, TV ratings and revenue.

Split the AFL for a fair draw

The AFL’s 3 strikes policy has created a culture of drug cheats in the AFL.
The players know that they can take drugs and get away with it.

I find it very hard to believe that Essendon and the other clubs acted without the AFL’s knowledge of what was going on. The Essendon club would have discussed it with the AFL’s governing body and been given the all clear to proceed.

Under the AFL’s governance structure its not possible that they didn’t.

Jobe Watson's admission guarantees sanction for Essendon and its players

Good luck to GWS.

As a Sydney sports fan its sad to see them so unpopular and not having won a game this year.

Four reasons why GWS must chase Lance Franklin

Can you believe that ground hadn’t been used for nearly 3 weeks since the first SOO NRL game and South Sydney played their home games away to help out – thanks NRL.

Just the same it wasn’t that great a surface.

Capacity is 83,500 but should be around 82,000 because of some members.
Great response from Sydney sports fans.

Stick or twist: Osieck's left-flank dilemma

The AFL has a history of overstating their figures and aren’t to be trusted. membership and participation figures are falsely inflated.

Roy Masters has once again exposed the AFL for overstating their “participation rates” and claims of “phenominal growth of AFL in Sydney” for the AFL’s political and commercial gain.

How big can the Wanderers become?

Yeah I saw that ad at the bus stops around Sydney and don’t get it – “Bring your football back?

Can someone explain?

How big can the Wanderers become?

You can even buy AFL memberships for pets and deceased relatives.

How big can the Wanderers become?

SFC average home attendances 2012 = 35K, 2nd last on table
Sydney Swans = 27K, AFL Premiers

I’m not saying I agree with his views about the A-League versus Scottish football – just saying that’s the kind of Euro snobbishness holding back the A-League.

The A-League has enemies within as well as without.

The SFC players need to improve and learn from ADP to keep the momentum going, espcially the younguns.

Marquee mania cannot be a one-time fling

Del Piero is a world wide recognisable football icon.
One of the reasons he is a success is that he chose to come to Australia and take less money to do it – a lot less.
He is a real gentleman of sport and a visionary in terms of leaving a legacy and expanding Australia’s football footprint and guaranteeing our football future.

Why?
So he will be fondly remembered and he will be satisfied that he did something for the sport he loves – and he isn’t even an Aussie.

Makes Tim Cahill, Mark Schwarzer and Lucas Neill look live soul-less mercenaries in comparison.
They had an opportunity to make WSW an even bigger club, but turned it down because of the money on offer.

Marquees alone won’t save the A-League – the quality and entertainment needs to keep growing.

A good Scottish Australian friend who loves everything Celtic was finally persuaded to come to a Sydney FC game because of DP.
After the game he still thought the A-League was rubbish and said he would never come again.

Marquee mania cannot be a one-time fling

Wilson, Rothfield, News Limited – all predictable and going to plan.

Best way to stop it is to ignore it.
If News Limited don’t sell more papers they won’t print it.

Don’t buy their papers or visit their web sites.

A letter to Ms Wilson after yet another attack on football

Porta has scored the same number of goals for the Socceroos as “world class” Scott McDonald and in 27 less appearances.

Richard Porta: The forgotten man of Australian football

Its a shame everyone is focusing on Besart’s second goal when his first goal was a real beauty.

Excellent cross from Broich and then Besart’s expertly placed header into the bottom corner to bring the game back to life.

The $5M is for grassroots competitions and to Kick Off the West Sydney W-League team.

BREAKING: FFA to announce a new Western Sydney A-League team

He will register rival names and establish West Sydney Football just to annoy Lowy and keep an eye on the FFA.

You can bet on it.

BREAKING: FFA to announce a new Western Sydney A-League team

When is any business venture not a risk.
The question is is the risk managable, what is the payoff and is there contingency in place.

FFA need the 10th team to get an increased media deal. Sydney is the biggest media market by far.

They calculate that spending $5M a year to get and extra $20-50M a year in media rights is worth the gamble.
If they do it right the FFA and the A-League clubs will all actually be better off, plus any FTA deals that come along out of this.

Then they will probably sell off all of the club or most of it within a year or two anyway and get most of their money back.

The FFA have funded MV, AU, NQF and BR over the years and they run many football teams and compettiions so they are capabable and have the resources to do it.

Sorry, but after all the Palmer theatrics, absolutely no chance of FFA funding GCU to stay in the A-League.

The federal and state governments can see the value of investing in the most popular sport in Western Sydney and the benefits it will bring to the youth – boys and girls.

They are all heroes for playing AFL, aren’t they?

Keiren Jack is the true hero of first Sydney derby

Not much to crow about really. With only one AFL game in the whole world last weekend it should have been AFL Grand Final like ratings, but was even beaten by a couple of suburban NRL games.

What were the 7Mate ratings in Sydney – too disappointing to mention!
I think you’ll find they were pathetic for the amount of promotion they gave it.

This would be a disappointment to Demetriou and the AFL.
Should have been the highest rating sports program on Pay TV and is making Foxtel think they paid too much for the AFL rights already.

Standalone AFL game rides high in ratings

Why do these positive articles always have to be tainted with negative stuff.

Its about a record A-League year – despite 30 less games than last season, the aggregate attendance is a record. Attendances, TV ratings, player registrations and revenues are all up – despite the GC and their 2K attendances.

Then you go on about Thwaite doesn’t know which club he is playing for next year – save that for another article or AFL mouthpiece Dugald Massey.

Record crowd figures for A-League

I’d think most people already have a PC and internet access, so that shouldn’t be additional to.

Fox is proprietory and you have to pay to get it installed – as well as the regular ongoing costs

A-League fails to make the A-list

If it isn’t cheating then what is it?

GWS get an easy draw and the teams that play them get better percentages.

They also stack the draw so the higher crowd drawing teams like Collingwood, Carlton and Essendon play most of their games at the MCG. They get an unfair home ground advantage.

Its about maximising revenue, not having a fair and open competition.

I’m amazed at how much AFL fans let Demetriou get away with.

Expectations dictate reaction for GWS and Sydney

Went to the game and it was great, Joel had a good game amd is improving.

Bit overconfident about going all the way and odds are against them. They’ll do well just to beat WP in NZ.

Re the crowd figure, there seemed to be more people there than at the Victory game, which we went to as well, and very surprised when they announced the attendance.

Sydney FC can go all the way: Chianese

Agree.
The backers are there and they have put in a plan, but the FFA will need time and they are considering two other offers at the same time from Canberra and West Sydney.
