NFL takeaways: Week 3

Week 3 of the NFL season is now in the books, and there was plenty to take out of it, from the duel between former MVPsPatrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson to Dak Prescott and the Cowboys taking on Russell Wilson and the Seahawks.

I think we need a year of desperate domestic comps just to see how they fair. Cane was admirable in refusing not to be home in time for Christmas but unfortunately it also paints him and his squad as ‘entitled’. They will be stinging from this and no doubt will harness the vitriol to make a serious statement on Sunday
Ozzy you need to become a wee bit more competitive otherwise you could be walking into a cruxifiction

South Africa have gifted the trans-Tasman cousins a golden opportunity

I’m not sure how killing the contest for possession at the ruck is ‘within the spirit’ of the game.

Refereeing the breakdown: How the best international sides are affected

The 9s down south have been less than impressive Powell is a great signing. Brumbies still have two good players. Everyone’s happy. Apart from the fact Powell now has to live in Melbourne.

Rebels sign Brumbies halfback Joe Powell

He hasn’t even coached a single match and he’s already Cheika 2.0.

Hey Jacko, have a look on Stuff NZ. About 209 comments and all but a few telling the ABs and NZRU to stop complaining and deal with it. https://i.stuff.co.nz/sport/rugby/opinion/122945995/bolshie-all-blacks-acting-like-spoiled-brats-with-christmas-demands

The quick questions: Cracks in the partnership?

Staying? Thought the article was about him moving?

The eligibility limit was only added in a failed attempt to curb rorting.

The bidding process has been far more successfull, and no-one gets a free hit any more.

But the AFL never revoked the earlier unsuccessful rule change.
I’d suggest 50 games or 5 years service. The latter for those poor buggers whose injury woes blighted their careers.

How to fix the Next Generation Academy system

A press release from Brett Impey (NZR Chair) who also happens to be SANZAAR Chair – he says, on the specific date referencing so-called meeting minutes, there was NO meeting held and he would know – he is the Chair and he never attended or was privy to, any meeting.

No meeting means no formal minutes and he disputes any minutes actually exist.

He believes they are notes of discussions held but not minutes and all except NZ, favoured the 6week schedule which goes to the initial fabrication – NZR did not agree to any schedule that would force its players, to be in quarantine rather than home, for xmas.

That point remained subject to, further discussions.

Oh and btw, he’s also announced NZR’s 2021 and a potential 2022 rugby schedule. 2021 will involve the 5 kiwi franchises in a home and away competition with a finals series. There will not be a 6th franchise involvement.

However in 2022, proposals are being considered to include 3 extra franchises including potentially a pacifica side consisting of Samoan & Tongan players, a Fijian side and a new NZ franchise.

The last option is being considered with a chinese venture that has ties to Bay of Plenty (BOP) and Twiggy Forrest because he was co-sponsor of a chinese based team, that was to play in his GRR competition except covid happened.

Interesting times ahead…..

Thanks Terry. Best post on the whole pitiful saga.

The magic pudding of knee jerk NZ hatred and blame of anything/everything Australian seems to have fallen flat on this one.

Most of what you’ve written here is on the money. But to say that Clint Gutherson isn’t a great passer is way off the mark. Of all current fullbacks maybe Ponga is better. He could easily fill a 6 Jersey in most NRL sides.

The Eels have no hope against the Storm

Blues fan, I also don’t know what to make of the second team thing. Not even sure it is a thing, however would love to see the Force play in both competitions by 2022.

The quick questions: Cracks in the partnership?

McLennan is not stupid enough to tell a barefaced lie. But he misrepresented the situation by describing unsourced notes as “minutes”. There is a big difference.

I’ll make it simple for you.

Minutes are an official record which is usually adopted at a subsequent meeting.

Notes are something taken informally by any person. They have no status and do not represent a record of the meeting. Particularly when the note taker remains anonymous.

Hence McLennan’s comments were (at best) misleading. And the accusation that Robinson lied is founded on a false premise.

The quick questions: Cracks in the partnership?

There were no minutes. There were unsourced notes of the meeting.

Funny that McLennan misrepresented the situation by calling the notes “minutes”, an assertion parroted by Fairfax journo and many on this site.

The mere fact that McLennan referred to unsourced and unverified ‘notes’ of the meeting as “minutes” causes doubt about the accuracy of his statements.

The Roar’s NRL expert tips and predictions: Finals Week 1

You know the difference between “minutes” and unsourced “notes”, don’t you? If McLennan referred to m minutes then he was being misleading at best.

The quick questions: Cracks in the partnership?

Yes shows that the so called “minutes” were notes taken by an unnamed person.

So maybe hold off on calling them “minutes” as that suggests authority and accuracy.

The quick questions: Cracks in the partnership?

So it now emerges that the so called ‘minutes’ were someone’s notes of the meeting. No prizes for guessing who leaked them and why. The situation was deliberately misrepresented by RA/Fairfax.

Wonder if those who rushed to call Robinson a liar will now apologise.

Maybe hold off in the radical claims a little mate. There certainly was a meeting on 17 September.

Stop all this BS and child playground bitching.

The media is doing their normal – he said, they said.

The competition could have been on now if Aus competition had started earlier and didn’t have the unnecessary finals,

But that’s the past.

Get it on.

The end results will be the same as before.

Jacko, you do realise that almost all meetings are via ‘internet video’ at the moment? If there are reps from SAANZAR taking via ‘internet video’ , eg Zoom, that is a meeting.

The quick questions: Cracks in the partnership?

Spot on CUW, those with the gold makes the rules. The money is in the Northern Hemisphere and the players are flogging towards it. The NH figured out how to flex their muscle with 3 consecutive RWC in the NH and key World Rugby positions taken up by NH representatives.

The quick questions: Cracks in the partnership?

So you are saying the the Chair of RU fabricated a story about a meeting that never occurred plus minutes for this non-existent meeting? And then went on Sky NZ and told bare-faced lies about it? Ok, got that. One question, if there have been no meetings since 4 August, how have SAANZAR been making any decisions about the RC?

The quick questions: Cracks in the partnership?

So nothing about what the minutes actually say, and whether they are accurate and authentic, then? As I thought.

McLennan chooses his words carefully to avoid lying. His words are loose enough to create an impression without giving any facts.

If all these people have seen the ‘minutes’, why is no one reporting what they actually say??
