The likes of Townsend and Guelfi should be able to fill that void. But we still need to see more from Snelling, Cutler, Ham and co before knowing if they can be consistent contributors.

Is this the same old Essendon?

Agree that this season gives them their best chance for a long while. The next three weeks will be telling.

Is this the same old Essendon?

Don’t mind that!

Time to re-invest in the Big Bash League

Hi mate, that info was pulled from Robert Craddock’s interview with Whateley on Monday. Should’ve attributed it in hindsight. Cheers

Apologies, I wrote ‘his’ meaning the panel he is a member of, not in control of. This was a piece about the panel as a whole, not specifically Chappell, and I probably didn’t get that across.

Re Pucovski, there is little doubt he was going to play until Patterson’s twin tons. I agree and included in the article that it was a mistake to select him in the squad.

And yeah, England… lol.

Greg Chappell saw the writing on the wall, and hopefully the mess his panel has made this summer

Jobe Watson: Class and integrity until the end

Tackles gone wrong will rub you out but high, swinging round-arms with intent are OK

A pointless prediction: JPK-less Sydney to beat Danger-less Geelong

Thanks mate, for the record I was never going for the injustice ‘angle’, but I deliberately included it (once) because that’s clearly how the players feel and is what is spurring them on. People have taken one word out of a piece that was more about the personnel and mindset of the team and run with it.

Why experts were daft to suggest Essendon won’t climb the ladder

Are you going to make me copy and paste the playing list then and now for comparison or are you capable of doing that yourself and realising how silly you sound?

Jobe and co. enduring four years of slander and a 12 month suspension considering no one believes they intended any wrongdoing is unjust.

Their list has improved dramatically since then. They have a great mix of youth and experience and it’s hard to find holes whether it be forward, back or in the middle. There were only 6 players from the 2012 list playing on Saturday night, under a different coach – things might have changed.

There is nothing ‘wrong’ with him taking a stump, clearly as captain he has contributed, I just think it is symbolic of the way he goes about it. Other leaders might wait to celebrate with their teammates or wouldn’t see taking a souvenir home as a priority. The most admirable captains in my opinion will take the blame when their side performs poorly, but give their teammates the credit when winning.

Keep quiet on Kohli, or we'll wake the sleeping giant

Totally agree our stocks are low in the sledging department. Most of the chat I’ve heard from the Australians this tour has been between themselves, almost like they are ensuring no one loses concentration which is important in an away series. I think the Virat and the Indians have been dishing out a lot more hostility and we’ve just been responding and throwing in the occasional send-off. Virat has said before that he loves playing Australia because we bite his bait and he channels that energy better than anyone. Good call re Khawaja, seems the likely type. Get him in.
