After reading his article on “Players Voice” it appears that his comments were intended as compassionate in that he was providing guidance based on biblical texts. I expect that if he had a chance to do things differently he wouldn’t change a thing except offer a more long winded explanation of his point of view

Yeah, well argued point Clyde. A solid attempt to steel man Izzy’s argument but a little less presumption of his state of mind – in that he was confused – may have helped avoid the “condescending” criticisms perhaps. Izzy’s statement seems to suggest that he wasn’t confused and that based on his own theology the instagram comment was a straight forward question and answer. That being said, pointing out how religion is full of bad ideas is probably always going to get the condescending label thrown at you though.
Overall the argument does well to echo other sensible social commentary I’ve heard over the years (was that you asking questions on the Waking Up podcast AMA a while back?)
