Collingwood Magpies and Cronulla Sharks tragic. Massive fan of F1, AFL, NRL, Cricket and just about anything where a bunch of people put on the same outfit and run around after a ball. Fair minded and open to debate, love having my opinions challenged, in a robust but fair way.

For you. Some of us still like them.

‘World is rejecting them’: Have the Olympics run their race?

Innocent?? Please, read the transcript. If it was your daughter you would not be on here defending his “rights”. Come on Paul.

Just because he was not convicted, does not mean he is innocent.

'What are these peanuts doing?': Full list of shamed Dragons' fines, bans

So if the IOC does something wrong, we have to cancel the Olympics??

The AFL does things wrong, the NRL does things wrong, FIFA does things wrong, FINA does things wrong etc etc etc…….

Worked it out yet???

‘World is rejecting them’: Have the Olympics run their race?

Any danger you could just watch those sports (like the rest of us) and still think the Olympics are still OK?? Or is the fact golf is in the Olympics enough to make you hate the entire concept???

‘World is rejecting them’: Have the Olympics run their race?

So your solution is to:

1) improve attack
2) improve defence
3) move the best FB in Qld to the centres
4) move Arrow, a noted middle forward out to the edge, and put the Australian edge forward (Fifita) on the bench
5) go in with just the one middle-forward on the bench, as you want two utility players, who have barely played first grade, on the bench.

Oh, please can you be a QLD selector for the next 1,000 years??????

It’s time for Queensland to go all-in for Origin 3

I concur.

Aussie selection wildcard that could cut down the West Indies

Fatigue?? Seems they have barely played the last 18 months, and when the national team does play, half of them are busy resting.

Thanks Tony. Agree about the undertow of issues. Feel that is a reflection of society. And we are never going to “fix” society. The Olympics will never be perfect, never have been.

Maybe I get caught up in nostalgia as well. One of my first real memories of sport was watching Carl Lewis bestriding the world. As a small town boy in Australia, the image of a strong, black American man being the epitome of power and glory was amazing to me. It caught my imagination. It sparked my lifelong obsession with sport.

Maybe I’m just hoping against hope that it can happen to this generation coming through. Thinking of the youngsters out there about to discover Ariarne Titmus.

Don’t think anyone was suggesting prison sentences, but would not be surprised if their employer was unhappy with them, and wanted to hand out punishments as well.

Or is that too “woke” for you?? Virtue signalling??

Sorry Tony, but cannot agree with the sentiment in this article.

Yes, there was racism in the 30’s and the 60’s and today. That’s not the fault of the Olympics. Someone failed a drugs test and got banned. Yes its just cannabis and maybe it shouldn’t be on the proscribed list, but again, not the fault of the Olympics. Do some countries overspend on hosting the Games? I’m sure they do, but this is a question to pose to those nations, and the value they put on sport.

You then go on a nostalgic tour of great moments you recall, but then seem to call for an end to it all. No more new memories. They shall end here and now, with no new memories for anyone else.

This comes across as a real “it was better in my day” moment, which is fine, but to seemingly call for an end to the Games really irks me. Its the whole “I enjoyed the Olympics, but can’t stand for others to continue to enjoy them” vibe that gets me.

Are we OK going to the stars of today and telling them they are not worthy anymore, because Tony has memories of the Oarsome Foursome that he doesn’t want tarnished??

‘World is rejecting them’: Have the Olympics run their race?

Sorry Paul, but you are setting yourself up for an “OK Boomer” on this one. I’m sure you loved it back in the day, but now its not as good (in your eyes) so it can be scrapped.

Go tell Cate Campbell or Ariarne Titmus that their work is worthless….

‘World is rejecting them’: Have the Olympics run their race?

How do you squeeze so much stupid into just one comment?? With more than a healthy dose of racism.

Someone asked me recently why I’m not on The Roar so much recently. This is why.

I reckon if I had a bunch of NRL players next door carrying on like pork chops, I’d be a bit nervous as well.

I’d suggest a few of them have wives, partners AND girlfriends……

Not a great bloke, our Israel.

Take that Clive! Folau going back to Union in stunning twist

Sorry Bernie, but as one of those bleeding heart lefties you keep hearing about, I’ve been too busy being angry at the govt!!!

🙂 🙂

The unsung heroes of Kiwi cricket (Part 1)

Lord, your ability to understand a point and argue it is fairly mediocre. Sorry, but the facts are there.

But do carry on. No harm done. Loving the Kiwis in the Test at the moment. Hope the weather clears tonight…

The unsung heroes of Kiwi cricket (Part 1)

You’ve made three points in two sentences, and somehow managed to get them all wrong….

OK, maybe calling him a “legend” is a judgement call, but I’m willing to keep it out there for debate.

The unsung heroes of Kiwi cricket (Part 1)

Was going to make the same point Brett, but didn’t want to look too pedantic. So just going to double down on your comment, making the point, without looking like the bad guy….

Five changes plus shock debutant in Maroons Game 2 team

Paul, sorry a dollar short and day or two late to the party. Would be interesting to know where an average around 38 or so placed you in the rankings at the time. In a time when an average of 45 made you a great of the era.

Coney was NZ captain when I was a young kid watching cricket for the first time, so maybe I place him higher than I should. But seemed “decent” to me. Mind you Swampy Marsh was my fav player growing up, so these things can be subjective….

The unsung heroes of Kiwi cricket (Part 1)

Jeez, Phanto, I’ve had a few run-ins with the legend that is Bernie on here a few times, but he has never schooled me the way he has you on this topic…..

Rather embarrassing…

The unsung heroes of Kiwi cricket (Part 1)

Paul, it grates me no end to think that Australian players will miss a Test match because they are too busy off playing a T20 tournament. One in which only hardcore fans will even know is on (is it even on free to air TV??)

I’m all for progress, and think there is a place for T20 in the schedule, but why bother going to the effort of organising Afghanistan to come here for a Test, and then schedule it in a time frame that won’t suit? When half our team will be in quarantine.

And I really am over “its covid innit”, as a sweeping excuse for everything. If we can arrange to go to India to play in a WC, then we can’t use Covid as an excuse for players missing Tests.

Anyway, that’s my rant for the day.

Cricket Australia need to get it right for the next summer

As someone who has aged somewhat, its strange to me that I still have Geoff Marsh as my favourite cricketer. Might only have scored 4 tons in Tests, but was a gun in ODI’s, with 9 tons (the most of any Aussie at the time).

Baggy green tail-enders: Every run counts

All Day, you point out the great thing about stats.

We all have a great recall on Huss being great with tailenders, but the stats show the partnerships are spread across so many players, that statistically they become irrelevant.

Similar to the great West Indies side from the 70’s and 80’s, that never actually played together.
