Collingwood Magpies and Cronulla Sharks tragic. Massive fan of F1, AFL, NRL, Cricket and just about anything where a bunch of people put on the same outfit and run around after a ball. Fair minded and open to debate, love having my opinions challenged, in a robust but fair way.

Backing, not sacking, young coaches is what brings results

“he’s got a tin-foil pal and a pedal bin…” 😂 😂

Backing, not sacking, young coaches is what brings results

I’ve said it before on this site, and I’ll say it again. The whole appointment of John Morris was a strange one. With Flanagan getting the boot, the Sharks just seemed to plump for Bomber without any real extended search for a coach. Was strange at the time.

Anyway, I feel he has done OK. You point out the Sharks were a top 4 team, but if you look at the stars of that period, how many of them have continued to play to any level (or at all) over the last 2 seasons? Not many. Injuries have hurt for sure, and thats hard to pin on the head coach.

Like you say, time will tell on Fitzy.

Paul, interesting fact of the day: “Omnishambles” was coined on the BBC show The Thick of It, and was later added to the OED due to its popular use.

If you haven’t seen The Thick of It, and you like Star Wars, Youtube the clip where they are discussing it. Brilliant stuff.

Really didn’t see any “slamming” in anything SJ said on the show. Just seemed to say things as they are.

I’m certain it was. But too late, the outrage machine has kicked off now…..

Will Cricket Australia regret their ‘fan consent’ clause on Smith?

Newsflash: We hate the wheel!!!!

Will Cricket Australia regret their ‘fan consent’ clause on Smith?

I feel a victim of some Hams-phobia there!!! 😂 😂 Thanks for calling it out.

Will Cricket Australia regret their ‘fan consent’ clause on Smith?

David, I’d love to know who the 1700 newscorp readers were. All cricket fans?

From my anecdotal experience (yes, not very scientific) hard core cricket fans seem much more likely to be unhappy with Smith as captain again (just one of my cricket loving mates would be happy with it). Those with a passing interest seem much more happy to go with the “he’s paid his time” approach. Again, this is just my personal experience, and others might have a different experience.

I guess the question is: is CA interested in overall numbers, or the opinions of the “real” fans?

Yep, lots to play out. Lets hope it takes 20 rounds to play out, not just 5 or 6.

Its a nice summary. Plenty of ups and downs to come for sure.

No Bull at Bahrain, but they're Red hot

TB, I think you have nailed it.

If coaches didn’t matter, why pay them big money?

To me, the culture of a team is set by the leader, the coach. It is they who set standards, who demand better. Players will play for the coach who demands it from them.

The whole “if you are an idiot on the weekend, you wont be picked for next week”, leads to, unsurprisingly, less idiots.

Why is Cronulla coach John Morris under pressure?

Lord help us all.

Why is Cronulla coach John Morris under pressure?

Mary, I’m a long suffering Cronulla fan, since the late 80’s as a young lad.

And I’m sending my membership back if they take Flanagan back. I just cannot have it. Too many indiscretions. Not a bloke I want around my club.

Would be a great story if Craig Fitzgibbon took the reigns at the Sharks. His old man was an early hero of mine. In saying that, Morris is doing a very good job, given the salary cap taken up by a few blokes who are not doing much.

Nice one Bayden.

I made the comment previously, that as good as the race was, we still ended up with 2 Mercs and a RB on the podium.

Still, the qualy and race both gave me goosebumps. We are in for a great year, for the 1st time since 2012 (2016 between two Merc drivers didn’t count for me). And the gap to the midfield is very marginal it seems. Can see McLaren, Ferrari, Aston Martin and Alpha Tauri all in with a chance at podiums and wins. Even Fernando??

Have to say reading your comment about Hamilton “the 36 year old”, made me feel old. When did that fresh faced kid become a veteran. Guess it won’t be long until we read about Verstappen as “the 36 year old”… Time flies.

Micko, doing your best Martin Brundle on this one mate.

Couldn’t agree more.

Seems that, once again, we disagree. 😂 😂

Surely there is something down the line we can agree on?? The Hungarians in the water polo are a shifty bunch aren’t they??

Smith 'interested' in return to captaincy

Yes, it felt like Max’s race. They might have got their strategy slightly off, felt like he was rushed to get the final pass done, with laps running out. Anyway, I’m sure they will sort it out.

Bring on the next race.

Hamilton pips Verstappen in Bahrain GP

All the kids are wearing hats these days, its back in fashion.

And yes, sorry for the old-timer expression. 😊 😊

On Paine v Smith captain, I rate Paine higher overall, maybe his reviews are ordinary, but I’m judging the whole package. Just my view.

Smith 'interested' in return to captaincy

I guess the issue is it only kicks in after 3 HIA’s…. Which is very rare. Seems like it isn’t really a welfare issue at all. Just a show.

Well my hat is on standby. I wait for confirmation.

Smith 'interested' in return to captaincy

If Smith is a better captain than Paine, I will eat my hat.

I’m just glad they have gone to one of the games great thinkers to get their thoughts on it: Junior Paulo.
