DaSchmooze – you are right, smacked hands all round but the Rebels and the Victorian government are trying to move forward whereas Rugby Australia are continuing with their on going efforts to get rid of the Rebels.

If the Rebels have a viable business plan and RA vetoes that then I agree, we need a revolution in Rugby in this country.

Rebels' Super future hanging on creditors' Friday vote as Rugby Australia set to go against plan

Don’t know but being even handed, you would also have to add in rep payments to the NRL top players including Origin & Internationals. Origin is about 30k per match and I would expect internationals to be more than that but not as high as RWC.
There may be winning bonuses involved as well but these are more secretive.
I suspect that total earnings wouldn’t be that much different at the end of the day.
Also I am not sure you have it quite right when you say only 3 NRL players earn more than a WB, what I said was that only 3 NRL players earn more than the highest paid Rugby player.

I agree with you there.

His desire to play fullback was all about him and what he perceived to be best for him not because that was where his skills could be best used. He has adapted better than I expected though.

Latrell is rugby league's clickbait magnet - and it's time to leave him alone

In what way are they significantly disadvantaged because I would genuinely like to know (and I am talking about disadvantages today not history) ?

Why do government agencies always ask if you are aboriginal or torres strait islander ? Is it because they wish to apply some disadvantage to you if you answer Yes ?

There are a lot of very poor people in this country that grew up in rough environments with no money. There are also lots of people around who grew up with family suffering all manner of afflictions, physical abuse, substance abuse, alcoholism etc etc and they don’t all fit under the banner of aboriginal. Contrast Latrell with Justin Olam who grew up in a very poor village in PNG.

I am not trying to pull aboriginal people down, in fact I have quite a few friends who are aboriginal and they are great people. They certainly do not see themselves as disadvantaged although maybe that is because they had a better upbringing ?

I love both sports and sadly, I have to agree with you though not about the Bok thing

The Barry – you are right about there being plenty of others who have been as bad or worse than Mitchell. Todd Carney springs to mind but he did get an awful lot of flack from the media.

Don’t get me wrong, I have never disputed Mitchell’s abilities nor what he achieved at the Roosters. Unfortunately, all that is wrapped up in an awful lot of baggage.

I think that the problem with Trell goes back to his early days and aboriginal background. Whether we like it or not, society extends additional benefits to aboriginals that has helped create this sense of entitlement. Despite the benefits, many people from his background still feel aggrieved, resentful and disadvantaged. I think some of this spills over into Lattrell. Then you lay on top of that his unique skills as a footy player and the fact that this ensured an easy passage through the lower grades and always ensured that Trell got picked. In many ways, I think it all came too easily for him right the way through into his times at the Roosters and certainly, he has not had to work as hard as most other players in order to achieve the success that he has had.

I think that what is happening with Trell is that he is getting older, things are not quite as easy any more, he isn’t as fast as he once was and importantly, he now has to work hard in order to continue to maintain the effectiveness of his obvious skills. I think it is this frustration that is in some way at the root of what we are now witnessing.

As much as I dislike Mitchell, I do not agree with booing.

A little humility would go a very long way.

Latrell is rugby league's clickbait magnet - and it's time to leave him alone

The opinion comes purely from observations and comments in the media both jurnos and Mitchell himself although it would be hard for me to name a specific.

One thing is for sure, the Roosters very rarely lose a player of Mitchell’s calibre and yet it appeared that Robinson was all too glad to get shut of him. That is probably what first rang alarm bells for me and Trell has done little since to convince me otherwise.

Mitchel is his own worst enemy

He is talented but he is also a dirty player often showing little regard for the safety of others. He often plays the race card and yet he somehow feels that his abuse of the wishes of other races doesn’t count. He plays the poor little me victim card every time something doesn’t go his way. He believes that he is special and that the rules shouldn’t apply to him.

Quite frankly, he deserves everything he gets.

“They are more likely to be scouring the rugby schools in NZ right now than thinking about All Blacks or Wallabies”

I think you are right. The Warriors are trying to fill their ranks with talented kiwis and are keeping a close eye on local schools.

Wallabies' young gun mulling NRL switch as Rebels' future continues to cloud picture

What we are seeing is what happens when a club goes bankrupt. The club goes out of business and the talent goes elsewhere. With the NRL adding clubs, there will naturally be a migration in that direction.

Those that think that losing a club will increase the talent pool are fooling themselves.

Until Rugby in Australia stops behaving like a cowboy outfit then we will constantly see this migration of players to the other code.

There are currently 15 NRL players earning in excess of 1 million. There are 11 players earning between 900k and 1 mil.

The highest paid Rugby Australia player is paid slight less than the top 3 NRL earners.

Don’t know the answer to that but given that Victoria is the second most populous state then the broadcasters are likely to take a dim view of losing representation in the state. If a stronger team is going to step in then where is that team coming from ? If it is in an area that already has a rugby team then that might not be too attractive to Ch9.

From the viewpoint of what extra are you giving me for all that extra money you want then a backdrop of a failed world cup and the loss of 20% of your super rugby teams isn’t exactly encouraging.

From World Cup glory to a financial precipice. Where did the $48 million go?

“RA can do more than hope for increased broadcast revenues”

If we lose the Rebels then I think we reduce our desire for increased broadcast revenues into the “No Hope” category.

Its pretty clear in my mind that RA needs to work out what is important to rugby and then start slashing H.O. costs as if Rugby’s life depended on it. Spending money that we haven’t got like this is a recipe for disaster. Doing next year what we have done for the last 5 is another recipe for disaster. We have to change now !

From World Cup glory to a financial precipice. Where did the $48 million go?

Whilst I like the idea, the NRL is likely to ask “what is in it for them ?” and hand on heart, I can see nothing that could justify them spending 90 mil plus on RA. Yes there are some potential revenue streams as you suggest but also costs associated with that. Anyone see a profit stream that I don’t ?

“Phil Waugh is hopeful that cash windfalls expected from the 2025 British & Irish Lions tour to Australia and the 2027 men’s Rugby World Cup will be more than enough to pay it back”

Going to the bank tomorrow to ask for a loan. I will say that I am HOPEFUL of getting a new job and being able to pay it back. Wonder what they will say ?

All joking apart, I have to admit that I expected nothing else. 90mil in debt and at an interest rate circa 10%, The fact they accepted that rate suggests that they didn’t have too many offers. If I was their auditor, I would have a big question in my mind about whether they are a going concern or not. RA is every bit as bankrupt as the Rebels are.

We constantly get the digs about Inglis playing for QLD though he was born in NSW but the Luke Keary one has been nicely kept under wraps.

Wighton is a far more effective player than Trell. The latter may come up with the occasional flash of brilliance but carries way too much baggage. Give me Wighton over Trell every day of the week.
