In my experience, 80% of League supporters think the ref is biased against their team, 15% know for certain the ref is biased against their team and 5% are sure there is a conspiracy at the NRL against their team.
I also read somewhere that 76% of statistics were just made up and the other 24% were bull$#@t.

You think the referee hates your side? Check the stats first

Yeah, that’s true…..good point.

How Canberra could be on top of the NRL ladder

Ricky doesn’t know how to develop them.
In all honesty, I can’t think of many players who have developed into better players under Ricky’s coaching. Not just a Canberra either.

Uglykiwi, thanks for reminding me of FLETCH. What a legend. Six foot five…with the Afro six nine. They don’t make movies that funny anymore

Unless my maths is wrong, I’m pretty sure these guys all retired early ’90s. Mitchell Moses wouldn’t have been born?t

Was Ivan Cleary right to release Mitchell Moses?

I’m always so very very surprised when Ricky or Geoff Toovey or Des Hassler have a go at the Refs. It’s just so out of character for one of those guys!!!!!!! To be fair though, Ricky technically did not whinge this time.

Stuart walks out on media after loss

I posted this before a few weeks ago sorry…..but again the whole point of GWS is the fact that the combined population of Western Sydney and South Western Sydney regions is about 2.5 million and growing. Think about it, if you get 1% of that market it’s equal to 25000 club members. Hobart only has a population of 214,000!
As for your point that no one cares about GWS, given how long it took Swans to get traction in NSW all those years ago, I think GWS are well on the way to being a huge success. The AFL has a long term plan, including the development of juniors. Look around occasionally at school and parks in Western Sydney. You see AFL posts in places you would never have imagined 10 years ago.
For the record I’m an NRL supporter so I’m not pushing a pro AFL agenda.

GWS taking giant steps of the AFL kind

I’ve got a mate who is an ex boxer and has also been a high school teacher for twenty five years. Once at the footy on a weekend he and I happened to sit near some ex-students of his. At the start of the afternoon they were polite and personable, but as the day went on they became more and more drunk and obnoxious. There were a number of times that afternoon that it would have been completely understandable if my mate had punched one of those blokes….they deserved a smack in the head. BUT he didn’t!!!! He held his composure, grinned and put up with it. Surely Clarkson should be professional enough to do the same!

Alastair Clarkson incident a storm in a teacup

I’m going to fence sit on this………..Overall, I think the whole idea of marquee players funded by the NRL is unfair and a very slippery slope in terms of inflating salaries to an unsustainable level. To my understanding, The salary cap is in place to essential play two roles. Firstly, it is supposed to even out the competition and avoid a few rich clubs from dominating (think EPL). Gus Gould has previously claimed that this has a flow on effect in that clubs who do not develop juniors or are ineffective in the way they are managed are rewarded equally to those doing a good job. Maybe so. However, the second role of salary cap is to ensure clubs remain financially viable by not spending money they can’t afford, especially on one or two players. So in relation to that point maybe a war chess does help keep players in the NRL that might otherwise leave. Perhaps another way to approach it is the A League model where each club has a limited number of marquee players not counted in salary cap.

Dave Smith's 'war chest' dilemma

Probably showing my age……but I was happy when referees simply referred to players as the number on their jersey, (hey, number ten, get on side) the captain could ask questions of clarification at half time or the end of the game (excuse me sir could you please explain……..) and the ref might give an answer if in a good mood (now’s not the time mate, now’s the time). Honestly, just get on with it!

No excuse for refereeing rudeness

Money!!!

Gold Coast Titans quiet on rumours of Cherry-Evans cold feet

I am very much in favour of the presumption of innocence. I accept there is insufficient evidence to prove any wrong doing. BUT…….To my understanding these are the facts that are not in dispute:
1. Essendon systematically injected players with a substance in order to improve performance
2. Players had no real understanding of what they were being asked to take
3. Many at the club assumed everything was above board but made no real investigation to be sure
4. It’s still unclear which players took which supplements and when.

Surely to God this is not an ethical, moral or professional way for a club to treat its players……especially when many are young men who put their trust in the club to take care of their welfare. This would never be allowed to occur in another industry.

Stephen Dank found not guilty of Thymosin Beta 4 charges

I agree, Sydney as too many teams BUT, the combined population of Western Sydney and South Western Sydney regions is about 2.5 million and growing. No business (let’s face it that’s what the NRL is) with any brains would move a team out of that market. Hence the whole AFL Giants……think about it, if you get 1% of that market it’s equal to 25000 club members……..sorry my point is any relocation won’t come from Sydney west and I don’t see the NRL having the stomach to move any of the “traditional” clubs. Cronulla certainly makes sense, that’s why it keeps coming up.

Is a second Brisbane NRL team really worth $250 million?

Is this really about football in either code or about business models and securing/growing market share in their respective communities.
That’s not a criticism by the way.

Port Adelaide and Penrith Panthers team up

Andrew you are 100% correct. In fact I sense that many fans on this thread aren’t so much sick of Rabs as they are of the overall commentary standard at Channel nine. I’m not an AFL fan but I do believe their TV coverage and quality of commentary is far superior.

The ‘voice’ of rugby league is off the pace

New-look Demons stun Suns in AFL

WDD……I thought calls were fair enough on all three but my point was about over ruling the Ref. I can’t see how either Panthers try clearly showed Ref was mistaken, therefore should go with the on field decision. If Ref had called No Try on either I would have no argument. All said and done, Cowboys deserved the win.

Just came from this game. Three calls from Refs all overturned by Video! Fair enough on the first Cowboys try, but Penrith must feel hard done by on the other two. I honestly don’t understand how the rule is applied in relation to going with Refs call unless the video footage is conclusive. Having said that, Panthers defence let them down tonight! By the way….despite the crowd being upset with Refs I did not see one single plastic bottle.
