If refs weren’t making mistakes, Bosnich would be out of a job, because doing any meaningful analysis of the game is well beyond anyone at Fox Sports.

Does the A-League need additional assistants?

Perth have won last 2 games, plus Burns’ last game so they will want to send him out with a win – something to play for. Have only won once away from home this season though. Perth 3-1 🙂

Broich had 7 caps for Germany U-21 side and 2 caps for Germany B (‘Team 2006’). Research indicates that Germany B games are not recognised as full internationals, and would thus not disqualify him. Many players have represented one country at youth level and another at senior level.

Persistence pays off for Roar's Brattan

Forget Brattan…Thomas Broich will be eligible to play for Australia as of May next year if he wants to. I’m sure he would rather play his guitar or read a book though.

Persistence pays off for Roar's Brattan

Roar d WSW 3-1 at Suncorp on 22 November. Whilst WSW constricted them in the second half, they were blown away early on. Will be difficult to gauge where both teams stand in R26 as WSW have priorities in Asia and the Roar may be looking to rotate the squad (contrary to what Mike said).

Brisbane the best, but could Adelaide still beat them?

Many teams have tried to develop strategies to counter, or in some cases even emulate the brand of football Brisbane have brought to the league, with varying degrees of success. I think it is a credit to Mike Mulvey that he has kept his team ahead of the kerb even with great improvements in the overall standard of competition.

GCU with Smeltz, Culina, Thwaite etc were playing a more attractive style of football than WSW (and many other teams) are this season IMO. 26 goals in 23 games hasn’t exactly been inspiring. Tough to compare GCUs final season.

Roar win premiership thanks to Brattan wonder strike

“seems they are untouchable and rarely willing to accept when they are in the wrong”

Referees have an extensive match review performance from assessors every week. They are held accountable for their actions if they consistently make poor decisions. The fact that this is not played out in the public sphere is a positive thing. The last thing referees need is to be dragged into the downward spiral that is the football media.

At the end of the day, it is never the referees who decide the game, and any coach or player who suggests this is either just putting on a front for the media or lazy and misinformed. To use the Berisha example from the weekend, by making an extremely poor decision, the Brisbane player gave the referee the option to issue a red card. Whilst it incident may be ‘controversial’ in terms of having a large impact on the game, it was in fact the player (and not the referee) who made the conscious decision to dive in studs showing. The card was just a reward for his efforts.

A top level Brisbane based coach wrote an interesting article on this topic. Worth a read.

Accountability a must for A-League referees

Re Harper: the man should never be allowed to commentate on football matches at any level. Ex players turned ‘expert commentators’ generally have absolutely no clue when it comes to interpreting the laws of the game, and low and behold this incident was no different. Maybe he should stick to making soundboard apps for android phones.

Why Ryall should have got the red, not Berisha

The A-League national football team

Jumping straight from the WSW wagon to the MHT steam train. Pirtek looked empty on the weekend.

Heart will be made to earn their finals spot

A clear penalty. Not a red card. You could not say 100% that Robben would have scored had he not been fouled. Touch was 50/50 and heading away from goal. In addition to this there was an Arsenal defender in close proximity to the action. Annoying to see another big fixture ruined by a needless send off.

My concern with ADG is that the referee would conceivably play a large role in a very complex situation. I imagine that it would be difficult for players to score 1v1 with a GK, and therefore simulation/diving could potentially be an issue, as any foul from the defender would win a penalty. Referees are already under enough scrutiny, and the ADG system would only intensify this. For this reason I would stick with penalty shootouts.

How to eliminate football's penalty shootout “tragedy”

We don’t want any of your players because they’re all garbage.

Besart Berisha to leave Brisbane Roar for Melbourne Victory

Harry has no confidence in those around him.

Quantity of comments suggests that no-one was following this game.

On a completely separate topic, Mel Mclaughlin is terribly wasted as a front for the ‘Big Bash League’. A January transfer back into the A-League ranks in place for the hopeless Tara Rushton would be appreciated.

Roar coach facing tough selection call

While ADP may get more accolades from pundits, overall Broich has a far greater impact on the pitch and is not constantly injured. In my eyes the best long term import in A-League history.

Roar the team to beat after performance of the season

Heart have the squad to win games (I would rate it on par with Syd FC), however players lack the desire to get results. They should have been playing to save their coach.

BREAKING: Heart sack coach Aloisi

Addition time of 3 minutes is a MINIMUM, not a fixed amount. Exactly how much time added is up to the referee.

Many thanks for enlightening my morning. This is the greatest example of authorship seen on this forum in a long time.

Melbourne Heart are the best team in the league.

We must be running out of things to write/talk about, as this topic has been covered countless times on this forum alone. I can now see why so many people are dropping off The Roar, it is a pure bore.

Where to expand next for the A-League?

Unless FFA is negotiating with Barcelona or Real Madrid, I feel that it would be a step backwards from what we saw this year. I am personally not a fan of the “All Stars” concept, as inevitably a number of the bigger name players pull out. I can however understand how the concept may effectively be used to invite new fans into the game. 27 rounds does the trick for me.

Another big Euro club to play All Stars in 2014

1 goal in 25 games for Urawa – hardly a glowing endorsement. I am sure he will look good at Syd FC training sessions.
