Classic article. Good stuff.

The Victorian Sports Minister's Origin review

Both on field referees did a great job in what all the players have said was one of the fastest Origin matches in years. They allowed it to flow.

There is no question Jennings should have been sin binned. The penalty against Bird for that lifting tackle was incorrect. So one penalty wrong all game…not too bad.

All the blame should be aimed at the video referee for that howler. I know Harrigan has now said it is the correct call by I still have my doubts!!

Referee inexperience was Origin's worst decision

Not sure how holding the match in Melbourne boosted TV ratings?? This was one of the most anticipated Origin matches in years. It could have been played anywhere on the east coast and the ratings would have been massive.

Why Victoria should never host another Origin match

It was meant as a light hearted poke at Victorians. Clearly their blow ups indicate how fragile they are.

Why Victoria should never host another Origin match

I hear the Melbourne International chess competition is a real howler too!!

Why Victoria should never host another Origin match

Not sure what the Aussie Open and golf have to do with The Age not fact checking and your sports minister not bothering to check some basic facts before opening his gob.

Why Victoria should never host another Origin match

This article has nothing to do with the success of the Melbourne Storm. Their success has never been in question. They are terrific for the game.

This article was about Victorians blindly commenting on something they know nothing about becuase they are the experts apparently.

Why Victoria should never host another Origin match

All very good points people. However, here are some counter points:

1. To say because the TV rating were good the game in Melbourne was a success is dumb. The TV ratings would have been the same if it was played in Sydney or Brisbane. Time differences in other states would affect the ratings.
2. To get 56k at Etihad was a massive effort by the public who viewed it. However, as a NSW home game, I’m sure they would have got at least 56k to ANZ Stadium to watch Origin 1.

If Melbourne wants to remain serious about State of Origin, the MPs and media need to brush up on their knowledge of the game. You can’t seriously believe the mistakes they made were genuine just to annoy NSW/Qlders….It was a clear lack of interest and therefore a clear lack of checking the facts to make sure they were right.

I’m all for expanding the game and showing it off but only put it in places where it is of genuine interest.
