Ferret:
Perfect example was the Cohen Hess tackle. It was clearly chest on chest and a beauty and certainly not a shoulder charge but NO some body looked like they got hurt so it’s on report. As you say it is supposed to be a contact sport….supposed to be.
I also suspect that the match review committee are obediently stepping into line as instructed by the woke brigade running the game

'The game's harder to watch': Sterlo's surprise backhander to the NRL

Tim, I hate the NRL Bunker with a passion.
At least with Union TMO the actual Ref has the final say on the matter unlike League where it seems to be every man & his dog in the bunker

'The game's harder to watch': Sterlo's surprise backhander to the NRL

Loved that era with Stirlo & Ray Price & Bert.
I have to agree with Peter about the rule changes. One night in commentary he stated “They have taken all the real contest out of the game, the only thing lest is the mid air contest for the ball but if you as much as bump the other player you get penalised for a mid air tackle.” He was so right.
The game is being played at such a frantic pace it is just about impossible to referee to a decent standard anymore. We blame the ref’s but is it really their doing.
As a follower of Rugby League for close on 60 years I am about to give the game away too Pete for it’s soul destroying watching a once great game being officiated to it’s extinction

'The game's harder to watch': Sterlo's surprise backhander to the NRL

AJ As a Roosters supporter I agree to a point. They lost 2 games due to poor goal kicking and Walker has gone about resolving his erratic kicking in fine style going rapidly from 67% to just under 80%. Additionally they have had some bad injuries 3 season ending. Two back this week thankfully.
They seem to have put it all back together with 6 wins on the trot and the addition of Lodge to the pack seems to have worked well and he seems pretty happy in his new environment. If they can knock over the Storm tomorrow night I would have to say the “fat lady is yet to sing”
I hope the game lives up to the expectations we all have for it.

Experts Roar: Who's been biggest underachievers - Titans, Knights, Eels, Warriors, Sea Eagles, Roosters?

He lives & works in Orange and as he said to me after two shoulder re-constructions this is nowhere near as tough as the NRL

Josh Dugan sent off for throwing a punch in bush footy

Oh Josh …..He is such a nice bloke but by golly I have no idea what causes his brain fades.

Josh Dugan sent off for throwing a punch in bush footy

Yes in 2010 ironically it was Collingwood

Politicians, NRL, get off your soapbox and take notice: We don't really care where Grand Final is held

Ryan, some VFL/AFL history for you.
That 1966 VFL grand final where St Kilda defeated Collingwood by just one point is the only pennant St Kilda has ever won.
It is the only founding VFL team never to have won a premiership under the new AFL.
A 56 year drought and second only to the 86 year red sox drought between world series wins.

Politicians, NRL, get off your soapbox and take notice: We don't really care where Grand Final is held

Yeah only because they were forced to do so because of Covid Ryan it was not by choice.
Normally it would not even be considered.
I have been to a VFL grand final with the largest crowd ever in the MCG in 1966 and it is an awesome experience indeed. I believe the figure was 104,000 people ….

Politicians, NRL, get off your soapbox and take notice: We don't really care where Grand Final is held

of course people care ….5 out of the top 8 teams are Sydney based teams 1 from Melbourne and 2 from Qld and it is good to see that mix in the top 8 but the GF is not that far away and if your team is in the mix you want to know where the game is being played.
Would the AFL hold their GF in Perth? I doubt that.
It is far from a “National Comp” so lets stop kidding ourselves on that one.
Do I care, no I watch it on TV but the people who wish to go to the GF most certainly do care where it is held considering 5/8ths of the teams are from Sydney

Tony I worked with Barry at TNT he did the south coast run for us. I was an operations manager. We gave Barry huge send off when he retired and he looks not much older to-day as he did in 2007 15 years ago. Really nice bloke.

Forget the best, here's the rest: St George’s second greatest team of the century

He sure was Tony
Tough and mighty quick for a forward. Not a massively big bloke either.

Dirk, that is an assumption on your behalf. I would rather give them the benefit of the doubt at this stage. Though that possibility had crossed my mind, now that you mention it 😊

NRL News: Ponga season over as weird video emerges, Shoey Vasa-Sheck ban lifted, Martin, Latrell OK, Crichton staying

Barry , I find it difficult your namesake did not make the original team. When you have a forward scoring a try around every three games over a 200 game career I reckon a bloke with his speed was pretty hard to leave out. Mate caught up with him late last year and for a 77 year old , Beathy still looks mighty fit.

TJ it’s good news…solid honest player who does his job week in week out

Joe having had a serious concussion as a young bloke playing footy I agree 100% with you.

NRL News: Ponga season over as weird video emerges, Shoey Vasa-Sheck ban lifted, Martin, Latrell OK, Crichton staying

Agree Astro,
Was there actually a run in with security or as he just checking on Ponga’s well being?
If he has had a chuck in the dunny so what. Neither looked drunk as skunks did they ?
I get fed up with this fake sensationalism “inuendo” reporting from the Telegraph sports writers.
I use the term writers as I would not consider what they present these days as decent journalism

Dwayne
Mate, Channel 9 somehow think that viewers do not actually like to see the skill involved in kicking a conversion and that we would rather see some dopey advertising.
I often wonder how many viewers actually tune in for the massive pre-game gab fest they put on. I reckon most of us just ant to watch the game and that is that.
As for the insistence of the NRL to have post match “news conference” with the coach, personally most of it is cringeworthy at best….You know, I know that they do not want to be there but tell that to the NRL or is it just a network dictated thing??

Position vacant: NRL commentator who knows rules - a ref explaining calls will make huge difference

I just wish the commentators as a group would just commentate and stop trying referee the game from the commentary box
I have come to the point I turn the sound down to drown out both the commentary and the excessive over the top crowd effects.
I would also ask, especially channel 9 how many “experts” do you need to call a game of Footy?
Most of us could not care less what a commentators opinion of a refereeing decision is anyway.

Not knowing the background of the story going back with Stewarts son I cannot judge Stewart as to why he let fly at the press conference.
What I can judge is the total lack of thought process on Stewarts behalf saying what he publicly said about Salmon. Common sense dictates that it was not the time and place for such feelings being vented.
Sure I can understand his frustration with his player being kicked in the groin as hard as he was and Salmon had no right to lash out that way.
Had Stewart just said “it was a dog act and I hope the NRL come down hard on him” he would have made his point without all this unnecessary drama it has caused.
I agree with you Ben for I believe Stewart will be truly convinced he has been hard done by.
One could even surmise that he is under too much pressure as the Raiders keep being faders & he needs to take a break from coaching.

Why Stuart won't understand his petulance but consider himself a martyr after being banned

Albo, it was pretty dumb stuff from Stewart. The old saying “engage brain before mouth” never had a better example that that rant.
Stewart of all people should know by now that political correctness abounds in the NRL.
Though one has to ask oneself why Salmon is now on his third club with the two previous being in quick succession.

NRL News: Raiders to accept sanctions as Stuart faces ban, Storm's dual tragedies, Grand Final call delayed

John as a Roosters fan I reckon Verrils ould be a better long term proposition. I do not comprehend the Brandon Smith thing at all. Smith as you say too many indiscretions I say keep Mr Kool in Verrils

Methinks the club needs their coach to be far more ruthless with underperformance.
I see so much lack of resolve in the Titans, especially defence.
Is it lack of depth in their roster that denies the coach having players competing for their positions in the team, but we seem to see the same non improving line up each week

The Titans need leadership not apologies

The JWH forearm was more a playful rub it really looked worse than what it was though it was really not necessary and young Fulton to his credit was giving as good as he got whilst he was on the field. Quite a gutsy performance on his behalf and hope we see a lot more of him this season.

It was as you say a lacklustre game but I wonder how much the controversial week affected both teams.
Can we please leave the players out of these virtue signalling things and just let them play footy as they are paid to do not make social statements on behalf of the club management

NRL Round 20 talking points: Results to bring sheer, utter, glorious chaos

Inclusiveness is NOT singling out one particular group in the community to the detriment of others.
Banner waving virtue signalling achieves what? Except make the person waving the banner feel good about themselves.
It is how you treat people regardless of their race, religion or sexual orientation in everyday life that matters.
