Well said.

New Super format shows rugby greed has no limit

I think the international rules is played on a GA size pitch, which is similar to a soccer field. I would imagine there would be plenty of those around in the States.

AFL aims to take International Rules to the USA

nice.

Stephen Milne's sentence sends a rotten message on assault

Great explanation as usual Rick. Hopefully Hird will lose the appeal and this doesn’t get any worse.

Hird starts appeal process on Thursday

congrats to the bunnies – best team of the year by far.

2014 NRL Grand Final: Sam Burgess wins the Clive Churchill Medal

Nice article. I’m with you on this one, I think to many people are underestimating the Hawks and teams like this don’t come around that often. Interesting break down of Clarksons game style as well. He is definitely going to have to out smart Longmire on the weekend to win this one.

Can Clarkson's 'chaos theory' win the flag?

Slight edge you would have to give to the Hawks forwards, but only just.

Battle of the big forwards key to grand final

Dermot getting poleaxed at the start of the 89 grand final for me. Wish someone in the commentary box would do the same thing….

Biggest plays in VFL/AFL grand final history

Stats are important but they don’t mean anything. This game reminds me of the 2012 final, only in reverse. Can the under dogs win?

Stats and momentum say Sydney won't beat Hawthorn, they'll destroy them

tis is a shame where this has all ended up. not that i care to much for essendon, but it must be hard for some of them, especially if offered some big contracts as bait.

Bombs away. Will players really walk out on Essendon?

got nothing to lose, may as well challenge

Boomer Harvey offered one-match ban by MRP

looking forward to tonight, will be interesting to see who gets in.

Just another All Australian line-up

Rick that is some great analysis and ideas.
My main concern is Sandalands and what they do when he can’t run anymore. Big hole in the midfield then.

The sound of Fremantle's premiership window closing

Nice analysis there Rick. Never really looked at it like that.
Not sure I agree with you about defense not winning premierships though. Some great teams over the years have won with excellent D. I do agree that Ross appears to struggle a little in the finals but I just didn’t realise how much until i looked at those figures.

Fremantle's biggest enemy? Not Hawks or Swans, but time

Bit late to the party.
Booing is part of football but I recon also there most likely is some racial aspect to what is happening to Goodsy.
Agree also with AR and a few others that part of this article is a bit of an anti-PR exercise against the AFL.
Goodsy is tough and I love his work. He will deal with it and play some great football in the finals I am sure.

Go the Swans!

Booing Adam Goodes a poor look for the AFL

Not a bad proposal. Would like someone to post the last 10 years where teams were on the ladder after 17-15 rounds in comparison to round 23. Would be interesting.

Why McLachlan’s fixture proposal is a bad idea

lake looked to be fine walking off. nothing major i suspect.

Hawks cruise in AFL but Lake a concern

great great game, one of the best of the season.

Robinson excited by Melbourne NRL battle

agree also

The stats don’t lie, Finch is one of the world’s best

That cheating Trigg, who cares what he has to say anyway.

Port awarded first Adelaide Oval derby clash

The funny think about the all Australian team is you wouldn’t actually field it even if there was another team to play.

The All Australian team is another midfielders award and when the selectors can’t decide on the mid field, they just throw all the remaining great midfielders onto the half forward flanks, forward pockets, back pockets and the half back line. If they still need a few more (which they always do) they throw 4 midfielders onto the bench.

Which clubs are snubbed by the AFL's All-Australian selectors?

code 13 sorry for saying 3-4 teams when I was out by 2 for this year anyway, but you truly are pathetic when my entire point is still being made, even more so by yourself. You may have missed the part where I said the only teams that consistently are in the EPL are Arsenal, Chelsea and Hotspurs. The other 3 that I am aware of in the EPL at present either get relegated regularly or are not close from it. West Ham and Crystal palace most likely will go down this year like they always do and I would be certain they are the bookies favourite to do so. Your point is moot since it doesn’t change the argument what so ever and here is why.

6 clubs equates to roughly 33 percent which is less than half what we have in Sydney for it’s size.

My point is an area of this size can not support anywhere near the number of teams the AFL and NRL can respectively.

You like most just don’t get it. Pretty much any team is successful when they are winning. I have no doubt the bunnies when they start losing are going to go the way of the Dodo in the coming years. Most likely decades from now but it will happen. They just don’t have the supporter base to get them through the tough times just like many teams in the AFL don’t either.

Call it trolling if you like, I’m sure the mods would have shut it down instead of letting all my post go by. The reason they didn’t is because it is a good read and you know it, you just don’t like it.

I’m giving an educated OPINION on what I think will happen and history and logic tells me all these teams can not last moving forward.

I will ask you this though code, do you think all the Sydney teams will last for the next 50 years? If not then which teams do you believe will not be around. If you are trying to answer this then good, you are going through the same process I am doing. This post was originally about the Eels and what I have said is very relevant to them since I believe they can capture market share at the expense of other clubs and codes. This is war my friend, the market can only sustain a certain amount of professional teams and it is dog it dog out there. People like you get chewed up int he process with thinking like this.

Your last point is kind of silly. Large corporations and good governments think 20 plus years into the future, it’s called strategic planning. Do you really think the AFL hasn’t done this with GWS? the big point I am trying to make is the NRL needs to start think long term and that needs to begin with the Sydney based clubs moving forward. I’m not saying to get rid of these clubs for the sake of it, but if they become a financial burden then I wouldn’t be continually bailing them out.

NRL's sleeping giant falling down the NRL beanstalk

To be brutally honest, no one can beat Australia if they actually want to win.

Remember up until a few years ago (namely the last world cup) Australia had won ever major League tournament, cup and series for 28 years straight!

I actually think the Aussies lost to the Kiwis just to keep the game interesting at international level because no one wants to see the same country winning all the time.

That said, Australia is going to Bulldoze England in the final since the Kiwis are not good enough. Hell if you dressed England or NZ up in a blues outfit and didn’t tell QLD they were not NSW and played them during ORIGIN, they would hammer them most likely a 100 nil.

Can the Kangaroos be contained?

I have enjoyed reading your analysis of the teams in the last two articles.

Agree with most of what you have said. Personally I don’t see the Dockers winning the premiership with that style of football, but Ross might mix it up again. That is now the 4th grand final he has been in with this style if football. I wonder if he will start to inject a bit of flare into the forward line and be more aggressive. Just look at the Cats and Hawks, the two outstanding clubs of the past 10 years, both the most attacking teams I think the AFL has ever seen.

Keep it up, great reads.

2013 AFL season review: Essendon, Fremantle, Geelong

No buddy was no coming out of contract and since free agency has come in over the past 2 years they basically do not have to give much up for him.

Also Tippet was a no brainer for the Swans because he wanted to move the Sydney and the Crows had to give him up because of their Salary cap breaches. Again the swans did not have to give much up to get him.

Fitting someone under the salary cap is a hell of a lot easier than trying to give players up for what they think is good value.

The fact is Hawthorne can’t do a hell of a lot since buddy is now a free agent, where as last year they could ahve negotiated a lot harder to let him go, which means the Swans would have had to give more up.

Great move by the Swans really, especially with it set over 9 years. I just don’t think Buddy is that good though personally.

Franklin would be Swans' next Plugger
