Playing some of those games in summer is going to be interesting for the NH teams.

Super Rugby as we know it all but over after South Africa votes to quit, send teams to Europe instead

Scotty, I was going to ask, where did Andy Marinos state that NZR never agreed to a 6 week comp? Is there a clip with him somewhere?

I feel like there is almost a need to parse what is being said in this affair as there seemed to be an inference that NZR were ok with a 6 week tournament when they were hosting.

Also as an aside, is being in quarantine on Christmas really such a big deal in the scheme of things / the world.

There is a truisim about that statement which I don’t necessarily disagree with, but I’d still be curious at the significance. By that I mean do we have the actual numbers for NZ v NZ games in SR in the global/european market?
I know SRA did ok, but I see that as a bit of an aberration in that it was the only game in town for awhile there. It would be interesting to actually see the numbers over the last couple of years to get a sense of the value of the NZ product outside NZ/AU.
Obviously the internationals are a different question with the AllBlacks having a reasonable pull.

Peter, what are you talking about with regards to signing and then taking up o/s offers?

Wallabies dealt massive injury blow for Rugby Championship

I’m guessing you haven’t seen much of Skelton of late. He is worth consideration depending on the balance Rennie is going for.

Coleman had surgery recently coupled with limited game time. I’m not sure he’s who I’d be bringing back.

I was curious how Richie is going too. Was a period where he showed all the same potential (even ahead at time) as Arnold but never seemed to step up the same way towards the end.

I think with Rodda it will depend on the optics and the specifics of how Rodda approached the situation and pointedly how the other players view the events.

My concern with players like McMahon and even Kerevi for that matter is how little game time they have had this year. I know it’s not perhaps as essential as I think some people think it is but it is still nice to have a true sense of where the player is at.

Have you watched much of Skelton’s play since he left our Aussie shores?

Don’t disagree that he played a lot less on the gainline, but that was as much a facet of the attacking patterns the Tahs were obviously going for and not necessarily a byproduct of just Harrisons play. There was a lot of coast to coast play by the Tahs were they really tried to stretch the defensive structures and change the point of contact. A lot of speed, through the hands work rather than the channel one play of say the Rebels.

I think you might want to delve into the stats a little more to reflect on Harrisons season because he took it to the line a lot more than you might think, lots of runs for decent meters with a reasonable amount of tackle busts.

Also it’s a bit of a misnomer to say that playing flat to the line is the only way to counter rush defence, there are a number of ways to approach it.

Brumbies halt the Red tide to win thrilling Super Rugby AU final

I think you need to seperate the media chat from Lolesio the individual. Remember Mark Nawaqanitawase being talked up as Folau 2.0, that sure wasn’t coming from Mark.

I actually thought Harrison was a better classic 10 this season.

Even with the Reds, I’m not sure that it is so much about the complexity of their sequences, it’s more the fundamentals of timing & accuracy of both positioning, throws and lifts. As I said a range of execution issues.

I have wondered somewhat if the AU teams playing each other week in and week out is also a factor. Calls become important when your coming up against the same teams who have potentially already seen what you have in your toolkit.

Yes and no. I don’t think they have become too complicated, just that like last night a number of teams haven’t been able to execute. Go watch some of the Crusaders lineout sequences this year if you want to see some novel lineouts done right.

Don’t you mean by JP Smith who continued to drive/push him. At least Tupou had the class to come over an see that he was ok.

To be fair, I think any talk of the Reds coaching has been in the context of their attack this year vs. the last couple of years. Their scrum and to a degree defence have been sound for awhile but their attack has been very much improved since McKay returned to the fold. It’s hard to not excuse their lineout woes this year after loosing the talent of Rodda and even Hockings.

I thought the mental aspect was a factor too. Reds looked jittery at the beginning. There may have been a degree of having played their final last week in terms of the mental/physical toll.

Selections give me the impression that McKellar always had a particular approach in mind and very much presented a specific picture in the last game against the Reds.

Not to mention his experience though his involvement as a player in a number of other coaching setups. I’m not adverse to having a range of fresh eyes and voices in the room.
The breakdown will be interesting. I’ve always wondered how much of the learned habits you can coach out of players in these windows leading into international games.

Wallabies turn to former British and Irish Lion as forwards coach

I’d be curious how he’s tracking too. He was good coming into the RWC, but his consistency the year or two before wasn’t great and his lineout throwing was rather average for a long time there. The environment and support Latu has around him will be important for him maintaining his form as he hasn’t got a great track record for managing himself.

If I had to guess I’d suspect it to have more to do with the fitness and the defence aspects of his game than his attack.

Adding the Arnold Amendment to the Giteau Law makes a hell of a lot of sense

Don’t forget Richie too.

Coleman hasn’t returned post COVID for London Irish has he had some surgery so he’s a very large unknown atm. I’d be doubtful if he’s the player Rennie has in mind when he requested this amendment.
I also concur with others in that I think the optics might not look good if Rodda is recalled and I’d be curious what the player sentiment is about those ex-Red’s players.
Skelton would be interesting. Was looking good at Saracens, haven’t seen his performances at La Rochelle.
I know Scott Fardy is getting on, but he’s still looked pretty good.
I wonder if Genia, Quade, Foley or anyone like that is on the cards for Rennie. I know people mention Tolu Latu, but some of his lineout throwing wasn’t so crash hot either for much of his time at the Waratahs.
