For a horse to win the Cup and never had a lead up run here in Australia would break a record since 1993…. I’m not saying it can’t or won’t be done in the future, but it is very difficult to do…

Joe they certainly are top horses, but the fact they haven’t had a run in Australia, means their performance here is still unknown… I prefer to bet on what I know than what I don’t… Good luck today!

What if the winner of the Lexus Stakes this Saturday puts in an awe-inspiring performance?… Scottish won’t win the MC, one reason being his handicap, potential poor barrier draw, and queries over the 3200m distance… It is a little foolhardy to make such a bold prediction so soon… A lot can change in one week…
I know who is going to win the Melbourne Cup

I do think this stat is significant though :
“In the last nine years from 2006 to 2014, of the horses that placed first and second in the Cup, only three out of the 18 horses (17%) came from the bottom half (Shocking 2009, Maluckyday 2010 and Green Moon 2012).”

Its always difficult to pick the winner Phil… I feel that weights are just one piece of the puzzle… if other factors are favourable they can overcome one perceived disadvantage… anything can happen on Cup day thats the only sure thing lol… Good luck tomorrow…

BrisburghPhil, I do believe in well-weighted horses moreso in the 53kgs to 55kgs range…. The weight range nowadays is more compressed than 10+ years ago… but keep in mind it is one factor of many however… most significant is being lightly raced and having won a race over the last 5 months… its a combination of multiple factors that determine the profile of a likely Cup winner, and Trip To Paris is the horse that mostly fits that profile…
