Good point but he’ll be racing his 3rd race in 13 days. It’s a tough ask, but hey anything can happen. Good luck!

For a horse to win the Cup and never had a lead up run here in Australia would break a record since 1993…. I’m not saying it can’t or won’t be done in the future, but it is very difficult to do…

Every year these international horses get hyped to oblivion in the media…

Almandin could be a star, but his barrier 17 and longish prep will probably make it harder for him…

Dr George's Melbourne Cup tips and analysis 2016

Joe they certainly are top horses, but the fact they haven’t had a run in Australia, means their performance here is still unknown… I prefer to bet on what I know than what I don’t… Good luck today!

Thanks Chris… Lets look to go one further this year!

Dr George's 2015 Melbourne Cup field analysis and tips

What if the winner of the Lexus Stakes this Saturday puts in an awe-inspiring performance?… Scottish won’t win the MC, one reason being his handicap, potential poor barrier draw, and queries over the 3200m distance… It is a little foolhardy to make such a bold prediction so soon… A lot can change in one week…

I know who is going to win the Melbourne Cup

And what if he draws barrier 24?

I know who is going to win the Melbourne Cup

Word is that Preferment won’t be contesting the MC, so weights will go up 1kg…

Melbourne Cup 2016: Jameka given 1.5kg weight penalty

Thanks for the update Cam… It’s pretty open this year…. Nobody knows how the internationals will go, and Im not sure based on history if mares are disadvantaged…

I think Real Love and Articus have good chances, but Im not confident…

Caulfield Cup 2016: Full race preview, tips, and selections

Great article Tristan! The field this year seems to be weaker than last year…. At this stage 52 horses are left after first acceptances… Last year we had over 80 horses left….

I think Gallante and Real Love are being primed for the Cup really well at this early stage…

Melbourne Cup 2016: The field shapes up

Thanks for the article Anindya! I’m hoping and betting that Gatlin will take the title!!

The fastest men on Earth: Why Usain Bolt and his rivals fascinate us

It seems if the Hurricanes and Highlanders win, the winner of the championship will heavily be in favour of one of those teams…

Super Rugby tipping quarter-finals: Hard luck, Roarers!

Who knows what to believe from Waller’s mouth lol *cough* Queen Elizabeth *cough*… Ive heard him quote weeks back that Libran was being primed for the Sydney Cup…

I think Libran is the most likely winner…. but Waller wins at the end of the day haha

The Championships: Sydney Cup and Queen of the Turf preview and tips

Great article… Im sick of all the tree-huggers that have come out… If you don’t like it, don’t watch it, and don’t pass judgement on those who do!

Ban UFC? Okay, but first we must ban...

Justin we both agree on the winner – good luck for tomorrow!!

2015 Melbourne Cup: Preview and top tips

Its always a difficult maze to negotiate… Good luck tomorrow!

I do think this stat is significant though :

“In the last nine years from 2006 to 2014, of the horses that placed first and second in the Cup, only three out of the 18 horses (17%) came from the bottom half (Shocking 2009, Maluckyday 2010 and Green Moon 2012).”

Dr George's 2015 Melbourne Cup field analysis and tips

Its always difficult to pick the winner Phil… I feel that weights are just one piece of the puzzle… if other factors are favourable they can overcome one perceived disadvantage… anything can happen on Cup day thats the only sure thing lol… Good luck tomorrow…

Dr George's 2015 Melbourne Cup field analysis and tips

Also having a good barrier and racing in Australia prior are also significant…

Dr George's 2015 Melbourne Cup field analysis and tips

BrisburghPhil, I do believe in well-weighted horses moreso in the 53kgs to 55kgs range…. The weight range nowadays is more compressed than 10+ years ago… but keep in mind it is one factor of many however… most significant is being lightly raced and having won a race over the last 5 months… its a combination of multiple factors that determine the profile of a likely Cup winner, and Trip To Paris is the horse that mostly fits that profile…
