Hey nics,

Tough loss for the Tigers that’s for sure. It was a hard one to watch for a Richmond tragic like myself! Huge effort from the Eagles though and we saw the potential of Harley Reid as well which would excite Eagles fans. I’m looking forward to seeing what they bring against Freo this week. Do you think they can win 2 in a row?

Hey Ghost,

Tigers were definitely low on quality players. It was a huge opportunity for the Eagles and they took it. They have the derby this weekend against Freo. Do they think they win that one? I think if they’re any chance, their prime movers like Tim Kelly and Elliott Yeo need big ones and someone like Jack Darling to kick a bag.

Swans were horrible against Adelaide, however Adelaide were set up brilliantly defensively. Their leaders definitely went missing, can’t remember the last time Kennedy went back to back games with below 20 possessions. He had no impact in the engine room. Slow start, not as bad as last year but definitely something they need to address. Starts with the leaders i think.

A little bit of context is needed when looking at Sydney's loss to Adelaide

Thanks for the comment Alan. Looking at the topic from your perspective you could definitely say they have been consistent with their middle of the pack finishes but what that means is they’re good enough to win the same games as they lose. There isn’t a huge difference between spots on the ladder but for me they have been in the middle of the pack for years, they aren’t good enough to get to the top 4, yet they aren’t bad enough to finish bottom 4, for me thats inconsistency. I totally agree that their list hasn’t bottomed out, they haven’t engaged in a rebuild at all which isn’t adding quality to there list to get them into that top 4. Thats definitely a factor in their middle of the pack finishes.

Same old Essendon, same old inconsistent form

Thanks for the comment BigAl. Some teams have definitely been inconsistent this year. I’ve highlighted Essendon due to their prolonged inconsistency. For me they have been the most inconsistent team over the last 10 years rather than just this year, however it looks like they’re continuing the theme this year as well! We’ll see what happens throughout the year.

Thanks for the comment Rissole. In my opinion a team could have heaps of quality players but the team needs to gel together and get on the park as a team, how often they do this will reflect the results. The inconsistency for me comes from Essendon not having that time to gel together. Once they know Worsfold’s gamplan inside out then i think we’ll see consistent results. I was unsure about Parish and McGrath and I agree that they have some growing to do but i came to the conclusion that they are A-grade because if one of them were injured it would hurt the team significantly. Heppell and Zaharakis have been ordinary when the team has been ordinary and have been good when the team has been good which definitely demonstrates their ability to fade in and out of games. Arguably A-graders don’t fade out of games, so i see your point. The team has talent no doubt, hopefully they can live up to their potential.

Thanks for the comment! I was umming and ahhing about Parish and McGrath in all honestly. They both still have some growing to do but i think if one of them were injured it would hurt the team signficantly. They are both quality players in my opinion and will definitely continue to improve. I think they have alot of quality players but they haven’t gelled which is resulting in them underperforming. I can’t wait to see how they go on Wednesday in a big game.

Thanks for the comment Chris. I agree that Collingwood won’t go in as favourites but i really enjoyed their style of play against Adelaide. If they can replicate that performance i think they can trouble any side. I think it was a silly move by Eddie to turn down James Stewart as a father son. Looking at Collingwood’s forward line the one thing they’re lacking is a tall target and Stewart would definitely fill that need for them. The only thing i can see Collingwood doing to try and counter Essendon’s tall forward line is swinging Ben Reid in defence, hopefully that provides a bit of a chop out. Big game Wednesday, can’t wait.

Thanks for the feedback! Essendon have definitely been the thorn in my side when it comes to tipping, its a toss of the coin whether they’ll turn up or not. They have so much potential but we’ll have to just see whether they live up to it. As one of the most followed teams in the AFL, it’ll be great too see not just the club, but their supporters up and about again.

Thanks for the comment Peter and i appreciate the feedback! I hope for your sake Essendon are off their game on Wednesday but if Collingwood can repeat their effort against Adelaide they’re going to trouble alot of sides. And I could not agree anymore with what you’re saying about David King. A couple of days ago he wrote that Tim Kelly is more important to Geelong than Gary Ablett! Very big call.
I think Essendon has the right man to steer the ship in John Worsfold, he’ll have that team scratching at that top 4 in the near future.

Thanks for the comment Rob. Great point you make about their 2009 season, the smacking was against Adelaide i believe. To add to that, last year they finished 7th and got smacked by Sydney by 65 points so whenever they do finish in the 8, they’re getting beaten quite convincingly. Highlights that they’re just good enough to get into the 8, but can’t compete to the level required in finals footy.

Same old Essendon, same old inconsistent form

Thanks for the comment Brian. The whole point of my article was to point out that over the last 10 years Essendon have been one of the most frustrating and inconsistent teams, and so far this season they have shown their inconsistency in their performance again. So in relation to your comment that all teams have been inconsistent, unfortunately i disagree, not all teams have been inconsistent in this period. I’ll use the Swans as an example. Since 2007 they have only missed finals once which was in 2009, they have definitely been consistent. Also Geelong have been extremely consistent, the last time they didn’t play finals was 2006. So i can’t agree that all teams have been inconsistent, not as much as Essendon anyway. We’ll see how the rest of the season pans out. 8th on the ladder for me.

Thanks for comment 1der. I think you’re right, they may just scrape in i reckon.
