I really wish we could have kept Matt Phillip in Aus. I think he’s been our best second rower since Coleman early years.

Five things: What Beale has over other golden oldies, double pain for Brumbies as Blues expose Australia's biggest weakness

I reckon because Hewat was such an awesome player but stitched up to not get picked for the Wallabies will make him turn out to be an awesome coach

this is going to be a cracking game. Do not miss it

I think Matt Faessler has been a better hooker than anyone we’ve had in a long long time.

I’d be disapointed if he’s leapfrogged by BPA or someone else who’s just come back.

Huge coup sees Wallabies hooker coming home to Super Rugby on long-term deal, with World Cup in sights

I’m happy with the length of bans. I think a one of brain snap needs to be punished but not overdone. If something similar ever happens again though I would like to see the penalty at least doubled.

Lomani gets huge discount on ban for shocking elbow after guilty plea, teammate has penalty halved

Correct, we have to balance out the whole backrow because we kept picking a second rower who can’t jump.

'Needs to be considered': Bell out of Super Rugby season as ex-Wallaby suggests left-field positional switch

I love the fact Stan Sport has a different Rugby show on 4 nights a week. But I just can’t keep watching and listening to Hoiles and Harrison. This stuff is just nonsense and professional commentators shouldn’t be giving it airtime. If I want to see rubbish brainfarts like this I’d go back to G&GR forums or read Rookie articles here.

what’s surprising is the 7s have said there’s a spot for him if he wants it. But he’d prefer the wallabies. I think he can do both. there’s plenty of time to cement a spot in the Wallabies. But only 1 Paris Olympics

Five things we learned: One area Gordon must fix to convince Wallabies boss, ABs bruiser should be on notice

Cale and Toole should be sent to Aus 7s now to give them the best opportunity at the Olympics. It’s really a once and a lifetime opportunity for them and us. Tell them they will be guaranteed an opportunity with the wallabies on their return.

thats the point. They weren’t always a much more profitable comp. But they made sure they expanded and those expansions worked. Even if it took time and resources from HQ

'Curse the money all you want' but RA must work out what it wants from Super Rugby - otherwise the game is doomed

Great news for Aus Rugby And Victorian Rugby. But I bet Phil Waugh and RA are pissed and scrambling.

I don’t think I’ve seen one sentence to indicate they ever actually wanted the Rebels to survive.

PE backed consortium 'in final stages' to save Melbourne Rebels with $30m injection and link with A-League club

Imagine if the NRL got rid of Cronulla, Cowboys, Warriors because they weren’t winning lots. Or if AFL got rid of the Brisbane or GC teams or the dockers and Port Power.

We can’t shrink to greatness. RA should be doing more to ensure they are successful. Instead they are death riding them

More teams is not the answer. Especially not if they are in completely different timezones. Japan has there own league so forget about them unless its a champions league.

NRL is booming right now because they simplified and sped up the game with small changes like the 6-Again rule and going back to 1 ref.

SR is partly better this year than anytime since 2014 because its sped up the game just a tiny bit.

Imagine if it can do something like reduce the bench to 5 players and reduce scrum resets and slow rucks.

We need to keep talking up Super Rugby because there’s plenty of people who don’t watch it death riding it, constantly making uninformed posts everywhere that it’s not on FTA or that it’s boring or a low standard. The fact is the best Super Rugby teams would be just as good as the best teams in any other comp.

I think they should try Sauso as a backrower. A powerful ball runner but runs quite upright and looking for contact. Gives me league vibes. Defs not suited to Wing and probably not skillful or creative enough for centres IMO.
And the Reds could definitely use some better ball carrying forwards

Super Rugby Women's: Where have the Reds gone, and are the Force the real deal?

Yep the Reds have been very disappointing. Only Patu, Elisaia and Carys played well on the weekend and a brief cameo by Urwin who should be starting.
They have new coaches this year and I think that’s the biggest difference between this year and last year. Players like Smith starred last year but are unnoticeable ATM.
I really fear Carys will head south or back across the ditch if the Reds don’t improve.

Kellaway is a better fullback AND better winger.

spot on Brendan

It wasn’t “killed by RA” it was too expensive for them to fund. NRC/ARC wouldn’t be needed if Super Rugby Pacific was a full season. It’s not the Shute Shield stopping that, it’s NZ and their sacrosanct NPC. Every attempt by NZR to deprioritise NPC is met with huge backlash by people who don’t even bother to turn up to NPC games or watch on TV. But they whinge about any changes to it.

It’s the NPC given as the reason why NZR won’t make SRP longer for a proper Home& Away.

If NZR can’t afford NPC there’s no way we can. But there’s too much pushback to change it.

No but he wasn’t even paid until about his 5th year.

How much are we paying better players like Kellaway or Jock Campbell?
Considering it’s not even worth reporting i reckon it’s safe to say they are on less than 500k

Piru the line about Wilson needing to shade Langi Gleeson had me rolling on the floor laughing.

Rhys Van Nek is the most underrated prop in Aus Rugby TWAS

Five things we learned: Schmidt's selection headache, Carter's a No.12 wildcard, and $1m Thor must step up

Ryan Smith is the form second rower. But Sydney based media don’t care. He hasn’t played an eye catching 30 minutes off the bench for a losing Waratahs team so he can’t be considered a Wallaby
