Although I have a broad set of interests, nothing is quite so engaging as sport

Yep – if you compare the 5 wickets Tongue got versus the 5 of Robinson, they were much higher value.

England's radical shake-up confirmed as forgotten quick one of three third Test inclusions, veteran rested

The over count is a big factor. Two seamers are very old and one is on a dodgy knee. And they lack a spinner now to eat up overs. It is a long series and the effect will accumulate.

Late brain explosions sour Aussies' dominant day as Smith, Head, Warner lord it at Lord's

I’m not sure how you have England in front. Australia obviously needs to build a lead and maybe getting to 70-100 in front, which is doable. The alternative is a 5-100 collapse, would have England slight favourites.

Lyon is still the most dangerous bowler in the two teams so a lot will come down to Englands second innings score.

Uzzy's the man! Khawaja's finest ton keeps Aussies afloat, but advantage England after top-order failures

Football has no need to feel insecure. The regional niche codes (of which I fully enjoy a few) are the ones that will struggle.

I just thought the article was a little tactless in looking up the schedule of NRL and AFL games that have to be done well in advance and to the needs of the clubs and fans, not trying to predict which QF the Matilda’s might get into.

Does Australia care about the FIFA Women's World Cup?

You can’t believe some people will choose to watch NRL instead? Can you believe that most people in Australia won’t watch either match?

People are allowed to have other interests.

Does Australia care about the FIFA Women's World Cup?

Every now and then I read a football article on the roar, which is full of insecurities about other codes, and I remember why I get my football news elsewhere.

Does the author expect the other codes to take a 4-week hiatus from playing while the World Cup happens? They have moved stadiums which should be enough.

Anyways, I hope to get to a game or two of the WC and hope it serves as a proof that we can host the men’s version in the future.

The attack is slow and predictable. It’s definitely not working at the moment.
Concentration in defence is also a problem. Leaking 20+ points regularly.

'It’s sharpened our focus': Why Trent Robinson thinks the noise around Roosters can turn their year around

I love long range tries but Sloan needs to work on his 1v1 situations. Nowadays FBs need to make those tackles or slow the player down enough for the chasers.

The Tigers attack is a lot to be concerned about even this early.

Hagan’s Round 2 Talking Points: 20-team Pacific expansion makes sense, Dolphins dynamic, Knights brave amid adversity

Your plan should be to boycott the finals. In NRL the finals revenue goes to NRL not the club. Assuming it is similar, you can punish APL and demonstrate opposition with a finals series of low attendance.
At each season game fans can hold up signs saying “boycott the finals”, so the message is long standing and clear.
And put more emphasis on the FPTP winner this year.

'Look at me!' Why do some football fans always make it about them?

I agree. The A League isn’t a money making machine, and I read the TV deal didn’t generate enough subscriptions to Paramount+. Makes sense to try make a new asset to sell.

'Look at me!' Why do some football fans always make it about them?

So a consortium invest millions Oman’s takes an ownership stake, and you’re surprised they want to increase the revenue of the product?

I think you should search for a professional cup competition that isn’t trying to flog off its grand final at a premium.

The only way the APL will learn is by fans voting with their feet

How is Cahill any worse than the players, management, fans for participating in the World Cup? I assume you aren’t watching the tournament.

Going to MLS and other leagues in mid and late 30s. What do you expect him to do?

A quote from a 23 year old describing how he made a decision as a 14 year old. Another great insight.

'I could not have cared less': Insatiable pursuit of the almighty dollar has ruined Tim Cahill's legacy

I wrote a piece a few years back about a relegation system. I think 12 teams premier division; and 12+ teams second division is a good balance. Also, two trading windows in the year for transfers.

Amateur hour: Fans deserve better than watching supposedly professional NRL teams give up

Commentators in RL seem to want to make it all about themselves, and flaring up over referees is their favourite way to do it. Other sports I watch generally get over it and leave it for the analysis programs.

Position vacant: NRL commentator who knows rules - a ref explaining calls will make huge difference

But the PointsBet logo they have showcased all year is fine 😂

'Significant mistake': Hasler apologises for rainbow jersey as seven players boycott Manly game

Blockbuster games in EPL are usually dull. Hopefully not a 0-0, though I’d still like a draw. 2-2??

A time bomb in the Premier League: Liverpool against Manchester United

Exciting season for the Toffees. I still think our press is slow and ineffective. Multiple times WBA were able to play through it and left CBs exposed.

James is the perfect addition. Never had such quality playmaking in the side before. Should be plenty of goals and assists to his name this season.

Classy Everton dispatch promising West Brom

The pressure on him at the Warriors would be pretty intense. Needing to lead by example on the field, surrounded by inexperienced players, in a torrid club environment, for an interim coach vs come off the bench for 25-40 mins and play among some of the games best players and coaching staff…

If Sonny Bill Williams returns to the NRL, the Roosters have to suffer (at least a little bit)

Exactly. Keary came in during a decline in form and favour at Souths. Most roosters players come in at astute rates, and the superstar buys have worked the last few years creating a sustained winning formula. All it takes is some bad luck to break it though – eg if Teddy went injured.

If Sonny Bill Williams returns to the NRL, the Roosters have to suffer (at least a little bit)

You need to give an alternative to the rules instead of “not elite players to teams coming 4th”. How would you govern such a thing?

I personally think NRL needs transfer windows and the like, but a year like this has so many challenges that we couldn’t avoid off cycle movements..

If Sonny Bill Williams returns to the NRL, the Roosters have to suffer (at least a little bit)

He should take the money, but history says that a young player on those unproven dollars is likely to tank.

I never thought I'd say it, but David Fifita needs to go to the Gold Coast Titans

I get it is a hard scenario, but it is not uncommon for someone to work 6 months in another location. I work in IT and a lot of my colleagues are separated from their families in India, and now they can’t return.

Warriors could fly back to NZ after Storm spanking

So will Latrell get picked or not?

Origin speculation to proceed despite no footy as ‘essential service’

It’s been a well known grievance for some time. This article has about as much context as you can get about the issue from someone indigenous who wants change. They were offering new lyrics back in 2009.

No need to play the anthem before the NRL All Stars game
