I think Simonsson and Blake will swap positions, but I’m not sure if that will make a huge difference under the bombs.
I’m glad N. Brown’s in, and don’t understand why he’s been out. We need that extra muscle off our bench, and whilst I don’t think he’ll get big minutes, he will/should make some strong metres, and he can defend.
We need to keep taking/creating chances. We can’t rely on defending them out of the game, not entirely, so I think we need to take some risks/make some opportunities/keep them guessing.
Forget the draught. As a Parra fan I’m used to it. Play some risk on footy, we’ll still have the draught if it fails, but it’s our best chance of breaking it, and it’ll be an awesome game, a truely memorable way to break it if it pays off.
GO THE EELS.

Grand Final Preview Questions: Will Waqa bomb out? Brown gamble worth taking? Anyone have faith in bunker?

Agreed.
I would have allowed the Staines try, but can’t argue the call against it either.
The Chrichton try was a try for all money, in my book anyway.
And yes, I thought our (Parra’s) first try was from a forward pass.
But, here we are, Eels vs Panthers in a GF.

NRL preliminary finals talking points: Eels rope the Cowboys, Panthers trap the Bunnies

Yep, I’m a long term Parra supporter too, Hondo.
I think we (Parra supporters) develop/evolved a protection mechanism over time that stops us from getting too optimistic/having any optimism, for our own good.
That said, and fighting my instinct, we are the only other team (excl. the Panthers) that can win the premiership this year.
We could be (could be) about to rewrite our “but next year” moto.
Just one more win, that’s all we need, one win.
Go the Eels.

Battle of the West locked in as Panthers knock out Rabbitohs to secure first ever Grand Final against Eels

The way I see it, from a stats perspective, and definitely without my blue and gold monocle.
This week:
The Cowboys are around a 60% chance against the Eels (40%).
The Panthers around a 70% chance against the Bunnies (30)%.
Next week:
Assuming the Eels are around a 35% chance against either Panthers or Bunnies, and the Cowboys around 30% against either.
The odds, from here:
Panthers: 70% x (65-70%) = 47%
Bunnies: 30% x (65-70%) = 21%
Cowboys 60% x 30% = 18%
Eels: 40% x 35% = 14%
As a (very) long term supporter of Parra I think they’re very good odds for us, compared to where I’m used to seeing them at this time of the year.

The NRL stat that can win it for each of the final four

“Sharks a team that on paper looks unbeatable.” Really?
I’d argue the Sharks looked O.K, somewhere around average coming into this season.
I think there’s a number of players in that squad that stepped up and have become/are becoming quality FG players during the year, but even still I wouldn’t say they look unbeatable on paper now.
To the Sharkie fans I say/mean that as a compliment, and not a crack at the club. I think you’ve outperformed this year and can/will build an even stronger side for next year now that some of these players have more experience, and as you move a few of the very old boys on to free up some cap/create openings etc.

Finals Five: Souths bash Sharks as we say goodbye to the grind

Well, last time Parra won the premiership (1986) Top Gun was the box office hit, and whilst the sequel has taken its sweet time to come around, it’s back in 22.
Perhaps that’s a sign from our “Parra Jesus”, or perhaps, just maybe, we have the team, and a bit of luck again this year.

Arthur lashes critics after Eels make statement in dismantling Green Machine to bury semi-final hoodoo

Cheers GB, and good luck to your Bunnies tonight.
I think it’ll be a cracking game, but you should get up.
As for next week? Yes, I’m preferring our position.

Arthur lashes critics after Eels make statement in dismantling Green Machine to bury semi-final hoodoo

Was there ever any doubt (rhetorical question only).
A big WELL DONE to the boys.
Obviously a much tougher week, hopefully 2, to come, but doable/possible if they can play their best footy for the full 80.

Arthur lashes critics after Eels make statement in dismantling Green Machine to bury semi-final hoodoo

Doubling, tripling, quadrupling down etc. on a bad decision doesn’t generally lead to a good outcome, especially in business.
The NRL is ‘considering’ seeking ’10’s of millions’ in compensation (based on a verbal understanding, from a division of a public company with shareholders etc?), because a rival code got hundreds of millions more, per year.? That aside, I very strongly suspect the best they can hope for is an extension of their current deal that fattens it up a bit, and I’d doubt they’d get it anyway.
Move on.
That aside, and I understand competitive advantage between codes etc, and how $ plays a massive part it in, why NRL clubs/players, everyone feels (are) disadvantaged (medium term at least), but move on from the sibling rivalry of big brother/sister vs little brother/sister playground monopoly game.
What are you doing, what are going to do with the funds available, and they’re not peanuts, unlike those that control them?
PVL and co, you have a virtual monopoly in Australia on the best sport (IMO at least) with a massive (extremely loyal) demographic, extremely high (reaccurring) revenues etc, and all you can think of is “please sir, can I have some more”?

Of course it’s (my comment) over the top, way over the top, but so was Gus’ comment that he should be congratulated for it.
That was my point.

Seriously, do you buy the Walker, Mitchell and others sticking up for anything other than an easier passage themselves and their families?
For the record, I could use the same ancestry to cover up my shortcomings too (if there were any), but don’t/won’t.

NRL News: Finucane escapes ban, V’landys defends Taylan May, Graham on Murray HIA, Welch delay

“It’s about the fans”?
He’s a rookie winger, albeit a talented one for the top of the table side/last year’s premiers, who have enough depth to rest him (May) and three quarters of their top players for the final round of the regular season.
PLV, did the club/fans of the club you’re defending think “it’s about the fans” that turned out for that game, and what about “the fans” that won’t see out latest ‘captain courageous’ in the early rounds next season?
As for Gus, there’s an ex Manly hooker that could of used your services in their defence.

“How do get a job like that”?
You’d start by becoming a member of the Greens

MICHAEL HAGAN: The gold and blueprint for Eels to break premiership drought

I thought that was a great read, especially as it fits with my Parra bias narrative.
I’d add, I think our biggest hurdles to going deep/deeper into the finals are:
A. We often (more often than not, either way) don’t play hard for the full 80min. If things don’t go right early we can fold, and when things go well for the first 60/65 minutes we can become complacent.
B. Our bench. Nothing against any player in particular, but collectively I think it’s a weakness. Not weak, but a weakness, and this is finals footy.

But back to the article, I found the most interesting comment was the one about the Panthers possibly regretting resting players last week. I have no doubt that (resting te players last week) will benefit them this week, but if they win this week it could become, and I’d argue will become a negative, but to what extent?
A week off, week on, week off, then a prelim can’t be your best prep.
A week off when the opposition teams are having to go their hardest, especially late in the season is a huge bonus.
I read into that Ivan’s concerned about playing Parra this week, to the extent he is giving us a reasonable/realistic chance of the win. If I was BA I’d be highlighting that. We’ve got the Panthers spooked.

MICHAEL HAGAN: The gold and blueprint for Eels to break premiership drought

The judge also described his actions as “cowardly” and “reprehensible”, and only gave him a $1,000 fine. I’d also argue pulling a (probably drunk) off guard guy down from behind onto a concrete floor could have been extremely serious. That aside, and from a Parra supporter perspective I don’t care whether he plays this week or not. He’s played all year whilst awaiting the court case, so to claim he should miss this week against us (as in we deserve to benefit from it solely because he was found guilty this week) doesn’t make sense.
I can understand his additional punishment from the NRL and/or club is due to the effect his actions had on the NRL and/or club, over and above his punishment through the legal system.
All that aside, I’m still confused about the timing of his suspension.

Finals Week 1 Team List Late Mail: Talakai 'looking good', Hughes returns, Manu out, Murray on track

Yeah, but it’s not all stadiums (beer) and skittles, the loser gets Manly.
I wonder what the odds are for Latrell or Cody, but probably Latrell, getting binned or sent off. Just a thought.

Finals Week 1 Team List Late Mail: Talakai 'looking good', Hughes returns, Manu out, Murray on track

I can’t help but wonder if we could make the Bunnies/Roosters game just that little bit more interesting.
Something like the winner gets a $850mil stadium to call home, loser gets the Manly Sea Eagles.

Finals Week 1 Team List Late Mail: Talakai 'looking good', Hughes returns, Manu out, Murray on track

“When it affects the penalty count due to the unnatural disparity between Roosters and Rabbitohs supporters”
“As there are over 100,000 Rabbitohs supporters across NSW and only 5,000 Roosters supporters”.
Could one therefore conclude that the bunnies have had an advantage in all the matches between the 2 clubs in recent years then? Because that would makes sense, poor hard done by Chooks.

But Bunnies aren’t eco friendly.
They’re an introduced species that go feral in Australia.

Quick, call the Prime Minister, Albo will fix it for his mates.

NRL News: Ticket fiasco enrages fans, Hasler, DCE fight to keep jobs, Bronco plays with collapsed lung, Croker faces ban

True, but it was only during the “ticketed members only” allotted time , and only for 30 minutes (of a 3 hour window). Roosters don’t have that many members, so it won’t/shouldn’t cost any Bunnies members access.

NRL News: Ticket fiasco enrages fans, Hasler, DCE fight to keep jobs, Bronco plays with collapsed lung, Croker faces ban

But didn’t it just delay Bunnies members getting access for a total of 30 minutes, and to a stadium that holds 45k+?
In the end did it/will it actually stop a single Bunny member from attending?
(rhetorical questions)
Worst case scenario it may have given some Roosters supporters a better seat allocation.
You can’t get too grumpy about that.
But I must admit I think that would be an awesome practical joke (and I know it wasn’t intentional) and/or promotion for Harvey Norman, because I can only imagine how many computers/devises would have gone into orbit when the Bunnies members were being constantly blocked.

NRL News: Ticket fiasco enrages fans, Hasler, DCE fight to keep jobs, Bronco plays with collapsed lung, Croker faces ban

Going into a game with the Dogs at $1.65 would have to be upsetting for any team, other than (maybe) the Tigers this year.
Sorry, couldn’t help myself.
