Agree with that, is the fairest way of doing, as a United fan coopers has been fantastic in recent years, but having two legs could sort the issue of who hosts it, drawing the host is one thing and people will always say that it’s unfair but having two legs seems pretty fair, I just doubt several fans would want to go to a host city, I’d say barely 2000 city fans were at the Adelaide final and that’s it’s closest city, So if the adelAide city final was played in Sydney for example just as you said 6000 people would attend probably less, just hope though having a two legged final doesn’t take away from that winner takes all atmosphere,

Agree haven’t really had many great imports since the likes of Patrick Zwaanswijk and Nick Montgomery, they’ve had a few who have started well then dropped off pretty quickly, is a great club with history and has a excellent connection with fans, seeing some of the club interaction with fans especially after wins is some of the best scenes I’ve seen from a fan and community aspect of football.
At same time have heard their chairman has put them up for sale and is looking for a new investor, maybe this new investor can inject some money into the club and bring in some top talent

Agree mate, don’t quite think the squads been invested enough to make it, Mariners fans can dream though, while always good to have high goals and ambitions, they need to realistically make sure they don’t fall in the FFA cup qualifying play off spots in 9th to 12th, which is what could be the relegation spots hopefully in a few years

Been looking a most clubs and a lot of them have a young squad minus Sydney, City and Western United in my opinion so there will be a lot of pressure in the youngsters, but that’s one thing I’m excited about because it is the next generation of aussies coming through

Agree, on the TV it looked fantastic having a full crowd and no empty seats but needs to be around 15-20k to suit the Roar perfectly, and I’ve seen on the map is very north of Brisbane

I think for both the Reds and Roar it’s a lot to do about how good these youngsters/inexperienced players will do. Both have a decent core of guys under 23 who haven’t played much senior football, so will be interesting to see how these guys life. You’re right as well Roar have one of the best back fours in the comp and is why they conceded the second least amount last year. As I said they’re still a good 2-3 players from being full (like that with a lot of teams, from what I’ve found Mariners only have a squad of 18 at the moment) so will be interesting to see.

Would like to know myself mate lol, I think they’re trying to keep it as close to start date as possible especially with restrictions happening in different states and uncertainty with the COVID situation, would imagine it would be a bit of a floating fixture AFL style where it was announced every few weeks, only my thoughts and from what I’ve read but might be wrong

As a reds fan maybe I’m the optimist, I think it will be a challenge for them but I think if the youngsters rise they could make finals, unfortunately hasn’t been too many pre season games between a-league teams to get a major indication but still thinking city, Sydney will be a class above most of the competition but who knows, maybe without Le fondre Sydney might struggle to find goals, was a Sydney fan on Thursday night while watching them in the ACL (gotta support the aussies even if they’re the rivals) and did my head in how many they missed but looked very good, I guess time will tell, hopefully for myself you’re wrong and reds play finals again 🙂

Obviously signed since the article, for me now updated for the Roar is Riku Danzaki, from his highlights looks a good creative attacking player and could add an extra spark in the Roar midfield, made a few appearances in J-League and still only 20, exciting prospect for the roar

Thanks mate first article in a while :), I think we got something capable to do something special and looking forward to analysing the other teams together, still think City and Sydney may be the two top dogs again. But all I’m thinking as a reds fan is if we can win it all after being bottom after round 8, club can do anything

That’s is what I’ve heard as well, but SA cover lockdown might impact a move and he has started both pre-season games good signs for reds fans but did hear that from SBS world game earlier in the month (if I’m correct). Be interested to see who is the starting centre backs with Timotheou coming in. Finals achievable but unfortunately no cup for the specialists due to Covid, injury and suspension will mean a lot of pressure on the younger lads

We’ve always some of the best talent coming through our ranks and this year the attack looks exciting, I think always anything less than finals is a failure for Reds fans, last year was disappointing and when we were going we looked good but when we weren’t we looked horrible like v western United. Veart bought a bit more consistency in the back half
It will be interesting to see how other clubs turn out, some have gone youth – with glory playing a few teenagers in their loss v Shanghai shenua which I thought was a very good effort from some of those young glory kids while Sydney have retained a large bulk of their experience.

I think its a bit harsh to say D’arrigo needs to improve his defensive game to prove he is a a-league quality player. He has the second most tackles in the competition. He’s only 18 as well in his first full year and has been named in a few A-League team of the seasons (so far). As a reds fan I think he’s done an extremely good job to fill Isaias’ boots.

I obviously don’t know all the details and inner workings of the club, but Yongbin Chen (which as a reds fan I haven’t been too happy with) seemed like a decision of the owners who also own Qingdao Red Lions a chinese third div team, the only person who made the announcement or made any comments at the time I believe were Piet van de Pol, seemed more his decision
Also Bruce played a part in signing Stefan Mauk who did play his best football at the reds and may be able to replicate it
Also on the point of not replacing Isaias young Louis Darrigo has done a very good job for an 18 year old to fill that void

Have to agree with a lot in this article, at their best the Reds are very good, however at their worse they are shocking with really leaky goals, while I also understand the clubs reasoning behind Yongbin Chen, as a fan and especially after the last 4 matches, I would have fathered that part of the salary cap being used on a young Aussie centre back or an experienced foreign centreback. Their attack is great, but their defence when it collapsed it collapses. As a Reds fan, Im happy with the cup but would love more, if the season continues and the reds sneak in, I hope we could regain that early season form and cause an unlikely upset,

Very true, to put it like that good on those away fans going to the final games, if it was a weekend, I’d be interested in getting a few buddies and making a weekend of it, be good if attendances as a whole improved for this tournament, NPL clubs generally get good attendances but A-League clubs normally get lower crowds than what they get in A-League, quarter final game between reds and Newcastle last year got under 5000, hopefully reinventing the tournament can improve the cups importance to fans and people as a whole
