I am passionate about most sport and a year ago I developed my own dedicated sports website for which I have written hundreds of daily content pieces (including audio) predominantly on Rugby League and Cricket, but also on the EPL and NFL. www.eye-of-the-tiger.org I am 31 years old, Sydney based, and for the past 10 years I have worked as a Level 2 professional cricket coach for Cricket NSW’s Indoor Cricket Centre and as a Primary School Teacher (Bachelor of Education) at Summer Hill Public School. The bottom line is is Football you need a goal scorer. I have see plenty of teams this WC play great football and dominate periods however they lack the killer instinct in the box and quality to get the goals. Morocco were excellent in both games and failed to score a goal. Australia have performed really well and been tactically sound for mine. However if you don’t have someone up front with the quality then you end up frustrated.

Is van Marwijk making the same mistakes as Verbeek?

If they don’t win this year they will never win. This Queensland side is the weakest since probably the early 2000’s. Slater has not played for a month, Hunt and McCullough wont scare anyone. However Queensland will beat themselves they will make NSW earn it. Physically they were pretty good in Game 1. NSW need to own the big moments and they should in this game as they have the better players. But like you said, I will believe it when I see it.

Blues fans and optimism: A dangerous combination

There must be more to it with Faulkner? He was sparsely used by the Stars last season in situations you would expect him to be trusted with/ Obviously he has had a couple of incidents off the field. It seems they have put a red pen through his name. I’m not convinced his bowling wouldn’t have gone the journey over there like others however the side is clearly missing some experience.

Australian selectors to blame for ODI carnage

Interesting stats. Do we have the players in the country that are capable of dominating against spin? These are the sms players that gifted Moeen Ali 3 wickets in the first game trying to attack him – and he is hardly a mystery type spinner. Maxwell strikes me as a pretty good p,ayer of spin however not in the same class as a Michael Clarke or Smith in terms of reading it.

Australia must attack spin in ODIs

Farah was an easy scapegoat for a lot of the Tigers problems I feel. Jason taylor made such a messy effort to get rid of him yet once he was gone the whole joining fell apart even worse. We lost the likes of Tedesco, Addo Carr Woods, Moses because of Taylor’s incompetence for mine. Robbie was an easy fall guy. I say this as a Tigers fan. Robbie is not perfect, I’m sure he got his nose in things he didn’t need to at times however the Tigers were a very poorly run club and I think he let emotion get the better of him at times through want to twin. However he is also a quality player and competitor that will improve the side who has struggled at hooker all year. I’m glad he gets the chance to finish his career at the club he has served so well.

Farah needs to adapt to the new Tigers

I know he is 38 but ageing strikers are so canny they know were to be to get that ugly or scrappy goal. We got so many crosses in against Denmark that I would have felt much better about getting a goal if Cahill was just lurking in the box. He might play against Peru however I fell we missed the perfect opportunity to inject him against a tiring Denmark.

Cahill the answer to the Socceroos' scoring problems

I was a sceptic but i thought it was a terrific game. Very physical, enough skill on offer and plenty of passion. Not having 1000 trips to the bunker and 1000 penalties also helps a lot. Felt like just good old fashioned footy.

Should Women's State of Origin be a standalone event?

The last 2 JLT Cup tournaments he was dominant. Not ideal he has lost his contract at NSW, however on talent he is certainly up to it. Be interesting to see how be performs in a different environment this summer. Very pure striker of the ball, but seems a real confidence player.

Is it time to consider Nic Maddinson for the ODI team?

I don’t quite understand how Finch, probably Aus most experienced player is suddenly a number 5? He has opened nearly his whole career and done pretty well in ODI cricket. Baffling move for mine.

England's ballistic batting sets new ODI world record as Australia crumble

Something missing with Shaun Marsh. For a player of his class I just don’t understand how he misses a straight break by a foot. Also did not understand Tim Paine batting at 5. We is either an Opener or a number 7/8 in that team. We seemed to go in a battle light, although the shots up top were poor.

Maxwell and Agar shine as Aussies collapse in England

The 1st 4 Australian wickets we’re soft in the extreme. Head, Finch, S Marsh and Paine. Four of the more experienced players and all of them gifted their wickets away. Was hardly great bowling from England. Could have been a very different outcome with a bit smarter batting up top.

Irresponsible Australian batting gifted England ODI victory at The Oval

For whatever reason Shaun Marsh has been a streaky player most of his career. I think it more a mental thing hone a technical thing. Because ability wise he is a match for anyone in the country. Always been something slushily missing and why he will end his career with respectable but not great numbers for a player of his talent.

Marsh struggling, Renshaw on fire in England

You don’t see too many Brett Hodgson, Preston Campbell or Matt Bowen type players any more. I think the interchange being reduced and less penalties would increase fatigue and maybe help the smaller guys. Having said that most NRL athletes these days are baulky and strong – even wingers and fullbacks.

Where have the NRL's 'little men' gone?

The new Western Sydney Stadium will be perfect and much needed. The Tigers, Dogs and Panthers should consider playing multiple games there. I think the Tigers might move full-time out there. However I still believe the suburban grounds play a role in Rugby League. There is nothing worse then seeing 12000 people in a 45000 or 80000 seat stadium. Rugby League is not AFL and Sydney is not Melbourne. If you move Manly and Cronulla to the SFS they will soon die off. I think suburban grounds need to be upgraded rather then move more games to the SFS and ANZ – however plenty will disagree.

Consolidation the key for NRL stadium debate

Perfect summary of Parramatta – Two temperamental players in the halves was never going to work long term. I can’t believe everyone is so surprised by how bad the Eels are without Radradra, it’s hard to say a winger carried them but he was HUGE for them last year. Their forward pack has always bene under sized and now its being exposed. I think they will get the spoon although the Titans will give them a run for their money.

A pessimist’s review of every NRL team after 10 rounds

I think all the pressure shifts to NSW without Smith there. If they can deal with that then surely this is their best opportunity to break through. Queensland still have a heap of talent in key positions however you cant legislate for the loss of such control and leadership that Smith provided. He is impossible to replace.

Queensland are Origin underdogs now? I don’t think so

I thought Brisbane were terrible. I know it was Round 1 however some really bad signs fro them. Halves were all over the place and goal line defence uncharacteristically poor.

NRL Round 1: Dragons vs Broncos preview and prediction

It’s a long season Baz. Lets not wave the white flag yet haha!!

NRL Round 1 - My best bets

Its a game of opinions Nat, Games are not played on paper. Sometimes team that have been up for a long time hit the wall. Im going with gut feel gut occasionally. Cowhand Broncos have been up and about for a long time. I could be totally wrong. All Ill say is a did put sone thought into it.

Brisbane Broncos 2018 season preview

Nat I originally had them out of my Top 8. However I backed them to run 10th last year and they really surprised me. So I’m not backing against Wayne Bennett 2 years in a row. I agree it’s a pretty average looking side for the Broncos. However they will win enough at home i reckon to win just more then they lose. Not a title threat for me. I wouldn’t be surprised if those scribes are right and they miss the finals altogether. Anyway, 13 wins for me and 7th.

Brisbane Broncos 2018 season preview

Like I said guys it is a little bit of a speculative pick. I would not say I am overly confident. However lets remember if the Dragons beat the Bulldogs last season in Round 26 the Cowboys don’t even make the Top 8. I know they went on that fairy tail run, however there was an air of “nothing to lose” about that run. There was no pressure on them.

North Queensland Cowboys 2018 season preview and prediction

Fair point Rod it was George making the majority of those terrible handling errors. Like I said I think at their best Souths could be a pretty decent side. However I just think they are a bit fragile and I want to see them prove it rather then go tipping them to do something decent.

South Sydney Rabbitohs 2018 season preview and prediction

Interesting report TB. I went and watched the Tigers and Sharks trial. Whilst you never want to read too much into trials the Sharks were just a few cases above the Tigers. The Tigers have no targeted or pace in their backline and a clunky spine. I think they are in for a very long year. Sharks looked sharp before clocking off late.

Canterbury Bulldogs 2018 season preview and prediction

I think that is a big concern Scott. Last year they defended terribly and were very soft on their own line. It is all well and good having some talent however if they are not a strong and motived defensive unit then you really have no shot in the NRL.

Gold Coast Titans 2018 season preview and prediction

TB you make well be right mate. It is a game of opinions. I look at the Titans spine and I think it is stronger then the Dogs. Injuries throughout the year play a big factor for any side. I just don’t think either side has a lot of quality depth or strike power out wide. Time will tell though. Some encouraging results for Bulldogs fans in trial games.
