I suspect there’s a group of 20 something blojes from the comms team who get together each morning and work out controversial click bait things for Kane Cornes to say

Six Points: Coaches, time to stop debutant travesty, and can Swans lead Buddy to one last fairytale?

Both teams beaten at pretty much full strength by the Sydney Swans, and by Geelong, but they’re the premiership favourites.

Premiership favourites set to roar in Brisvegas this Friday night

Rampe is 30 in July. So not really young quality, more Elite.

How’s this:

Elite: Heeney, Rampe, Parker, Franklin

Young Quality: McCartin, Allir, Dawson, Florent, Papley

I’m hoping for top 10 and 1,000 for the big man in 2020

Five reasons to watch Sydney in 2020

What a great list.congratulations matth , some great cricketers there. Interesting that the top team features two imports (Kat,Nevill) given how many we’ve exported. (Worth mentioning that there’ve been 2 double 100s this season, both scored by NSW players playing for other states)
I wouldn’t mind knowing why Michael Clarke didn’t make any list. No criticism just interested in his shield stats. For mine he and M Waugh were the best batsmen to watch since I started watching cricketers in the 70s

Celebrating the Sheffield Shield: Best ever NSW team

The Tassie team of the 90s with Hills Cox Divenuto Boon and Ponting was a cracker. Pity they came up against a Blues top 6 of Slater Taylor S Waugh M Waugh M Bevan G Matthews in 95

Celebrating the Sheffield Shield: The greats of Australian domestic cricket

The alternative grounds for shield matches often seem to be flat. Junction Oval and AB Field perfect examples. The most impressive effort yesterday was Marnus Labuschagne in Qld. Test standard attack (Starc, Copeland plus Abbot and Conway) and a pitch with something in it for the bowlers. He carried on his form from the Ashes, working hard, lots of dots, took his chances. UK got a slightly tough LBW, was maybe high but still hit on the back pad, didn’t look a great shot.

You dont speak for all Swans fans. P.enty of us think Horse is doing a great job and Brad Scott is the last thing we need.

Being pedantic here, “Scott was in a unique position before the draft, being eligible for three clubs: ”
Not unique because Blakey was in the exact same position

Thanks Adrian, as a confident Swans fan I’ll add you to the list of experts on this and other forums I @ in September.

Josh, as a North supporter I’m sure you’d let Tarryn Thomas go elsewhere for the good of the game and to prove that academies favour the Sydney Swans solely.

AFL mock draft 2018: Top 30

Brett, great piece. My “how did I miss that moment”
There was plenty of history leading up to this point, after a tough Ashes in England where he was regularly tormented by the Barmy Army Johnson had made a statement in Brisbane. It was on! After putting up another big 1st innings score in Adelaide the stage was set. After snaring Cook early Johnson returned in the 50th and, to quote Dan Brettig ‘England’s lower order simply ceased to exist’ His 3 wickets in the 50th bowling a jumpy Broad behind his legs was stunning. And where was I? In the frozen food section of Aldi, shopping for family Christmas the next day, furtively checking cricinfo on my phone, incredulous at what I was missing. I’ve watched the wickets over and over again, but it’ll never be the same as sitting through that stunning spell as he bowled them. What’s worse, my best mate and cricket coaching buddy was in the Bradman stand with his son, texting me!!

How I missed out on watching Shane Warne's 'Ball of the Century'

Ryan, you, like most of the media leapt deftly from the Melbourne bandwagon to the Collingwood bandwagon without touching the ground. Demons were the new Bulldogs/Tigers, until they weren’t. Just go and listen to last week’s Age Real Footy podcast. Suddenly the only team who could win the flag were WC, Richmond and Melbourne. Let’s give the Pies a few weeks and see where they’re at.

Collingwood’s final form emerges, and its ceiling is an AFL premiership

Burgygreen you are exactly right, and the importance of a good 1st slipper cannot be understated. I also think it is a specialist position and not somewhere a good slips fieldsman can just slot in (Smith, Poniting, M Waugh all outstanding 2nd slips but not necessarily 1st slip). I think you have to go back to Hayden to find our last good 1st slip, Watto was good but dropped a few, M Clarke also I recall a few drops and he was an outstanding fieldsman. Huge scrutiny keeper for taking catches but not as much on 1st slip who gets the next highest number of catches.

Malan and Bairstow save England from catastrophe

Warner has been worked out a bit and they’ve bowled well to him. He’s a lot like Gilchrist, he wants bowlers to bowl short and wide to him early in his innings so he can cut through point and gully. A lot of bowlers oblige. But on Monday night with the ball swinging all over the place and pitched up he was working pretty hard with a technique not used to the situation. They wanted him to drive and he struggled not to.

Peter Handscomb's skittish technique puts his Ashes spot at risk

Geoff, this is another excellent article. However I would take issue with your statement regarding the stumping perpetuating the “benefit of doubt goes to the batsman” myth. It is nowhere in the rules. The 3rd umpire merely decides was some part of the foot behind the line or not. 3rd umpire says no so out. Interesting to note Ali said afterwards if he’d been bowling he would have wanted it out. Refreshing honesty and sportsmanship.

Gulf between Smith and Root makes all the Ashes difference

Great article Josh. I think the ‘worst team bottom four’ discussion is interesting. North, who’ve been dreadful lately absolutely smashed Adelaide early on when they looked like going through the season undefeated. Gold Coast beat Hawthorn twice, something the form team Sydney, during their hot run couldn’t do once, Freo ran Geelong and GWS close away, both in the 2nd half of the season, Carlton beat both the Sydney teams and lead Adelaide into the 4th quarter and Brisbane have beaten Essendon and started to look pretty good a few weeks ago. These are just the notables I could think of without resorting to the stats.
Add to that Melbourne beating Adelaide on their own turf, Saints beating GWS and it’s been a great season. Who knows what could happen in the finals.
