A bit quick to say Geelong are in decline when

A) they are missing 5 of there top 22
B) they aren’t playing at home and Richmond is
C) they haven’t won a premiership in 6 years and lost to the reigning premiers at home

Some of your ideas have merit but with regards to congestion around the ground and initial foward 50 entries i think the marked increase we have seen in congestion is all a result of the third man up rule being abolished. Umpires take longer to ball up as they nominate ruckmen and this allows more players to get to the contest in time. This is why i personally think some teams aren’t bothering with a proper ruck as they have so many players around the ball due to time being wasted nominating it doesn’t matter that they have no ruck.

A simple fix for this is to abolish the current interpretation and simply award a free kick if more then 2 players from the same side contest the ruck. This would allow umpires to throw the ball in immediately and would reduce congestion as less players would be around the ball.

Reducing rotations isn’t going to help increase the viewership experience as tired players make more mistakes and which in turn creates more contested ball situations which leads to more congestion. it also increases the value of fitness relative to skill as fitter players and teams can just outwork other teams in the second half even if they have inferior skills.

If AFL rule change is inevitable, don't be hasty

I think your being a tad harsh on Ablett. He was doing a very good job for his first few games before he got injured and they arguably would have beat west coast if he didn’t go down in the fourth quarter. He’s been ordinary since his return from injury but so was he last year at gold coast before he got some continuity under his belt. Give him a few more matches to see if he’s truly past it. He’s probably lacking a bit on match fitness as well having missed some of the preseason matches due to injury then going out for 4-5 weeks.

Six hot takes from AFL Round 10

I really don’t get the 60k argument.

The reality is the Afl and most of it’s fans are perfectly happy to let teams based in different states play finals at home but then come grand final day all of a sudden that extra 50-40000 counts? I just don’t get it, if seating is that important why let teams play finals anywhere but the G, why let GWS host a final at its home venue?

besides a fair few grand finals at the g less people can attend then want to anyway so why 100000 missing out is that much worse then 50000 i don’t know.

Personally i think there would be much more engagement with the grandfinal if the best team actually got the home ground advantage. They earned it after all. The current situation is also at odds with the AFL’s equalisation measures.

All that being said i can’t see the grandfinal being held in Tassie or Queensland any time soon but can’t think of any good reason not to allow SA, WA and NSW to hold the grand final.

Home ground advantage means more for, and to, some AFL teams than others

It’s actually 8-2 since 1990 in favour of mcg tenants. The shocking number out of those is it’s 0-6 to mcg tenants when they are the underdogs. That’s right not a single time has the higher ranked non-tenant won. The two times interstate teams one the circumstances where hardly normal with Geelong playing a month at the G in advance and Sydney Spending a month winning on the road.

The reality is that the AFL has shot itself in the foot if it wishes to keep Final at the G as it’s expansions, if successful will mean it will have strong opposition against keeping it their. If it add’s another 2 interstate sides it could simply get outvoted.

Its actually a home ground advantage to the MCG tennants. Since the inception of the AFL MCG tenants have won 8-2 in grandfinals against non-tenants and the 2 teams they lost too didn’t follow the two home finals, then grand final away formula. The Cats in 2011 played a whole month in arow at the G and the Swans in 2012 played a month on the road.

Nine hot takes from AFL Round 9

The Bulldogs area a bad team at the moment. If it was dry Adelaide would have smashed them all the same. I don’t think they are capable of this style and skill you talk about seeing as they have only twice kicked more goals then points, once in a win over the Brisbane lions, and the other time in a canning by Freemantle. To put that into perspective that’s only kicking more goals then points once more then Saint Kilda.

ALot of their badness stems from the fact they are a young side and have next to no forward line. They actually won the inside 50 count last night, so their being inefficient and inaccurate. They will get better though.

Records tumble as the Crows drown the Bulldogs

Brisbane have improved as a team compared to last year but they’re still pretty bad, bad enough that there current record is such that the only way it can go is up. They have been competitive as a team but there is no way they are going to win 3 of the next 4 games. They have a chance to beat Hawthorn and Essendon as those teams aren’t the best travellers, but beating Sydney the only undefeated away team and North melbourne away is just asking too much. They’re a team at the moment who can beat teams away if they’re really bad like Carlton or just switch off like Essendon but against mid tier and high ranked teams they have no chance. At home against bad and lower to middling teams they’re a chance, but that’s about it.

Brisbane, the end is nigh

So much for being untagable

He’ll probably bounce back as he won’t be tagged, or tagged by someone of the same quality as Jacobs.

Dusty to bounce back against Eagles after down day

The reality is that Khawaja has been poor away from home for his entire career and abysmal since 2016. South Africa is the closest away conditions you can get to Australia and he failed terribly their. Yes he has been a god at home but this summer showed his form is starting to fail there, and you can’t have a batsmen in your side who can only contribute at home. It creates selection headaches as you either have to carry him away from home or drop him for away tours then drop his replacement at home. The reality is you could chuck any batsmen from domestic cricket in the team and they’d have just as good a chance at averaging 20 as khawaga away form home. I wouldn’t drop him right now but he is on very thin rope. if he fails at home he should be dropped and if he fails in his next away tour he should be dropped. Same goes for shaun marsh really. They are both over 30 and australia has nothing to lose in blooding younger players if there losing or getting nothing out of there older players anyway.

Australia must stick with Khawaja and Marsh brothers

Maybe if you both grew up a little and pulled a few fact and figures out to support yourself the issue would resolve itself. If grassroots footy is on the rise prove it. If crowd attendance during the regular season and finals is falling, prove it.

His personal view isn’t relevant, its an ad hominem argument to say otherwise. If there isn’t an issue prove it. Dispute his argument don’t attack him. Also the afl is a business if something is losing it money with no immediate potential to reverse that situation it will stop funding it.

Ten quick takes from AFL Round 1

Apply that same standard to Grahame Smith when Faf bowl cheated under his watch?

Admit it, Steve. You're no longer fit to lead the Australian cricket team

Shares that in common with Grahame Smith

Admit it, Steve. You're no longer fit to lead the Australian cricket team

Unless of course your talking about Grahame Smith. when he was captain and Faf bowl tampered.

Admit it, Steve. You're no longer fit to lead the Australian cricket team

Why would you put your best slips catcher on the boundary? doesn’t make any sense. Striping him of the captaincy will hurt him enough.

Paine should permanently replace Smith as captain

Not with you on that one. Captaining the Aus side is no different to captaining a shield side unless your overseas. The main difference is that press conferences and dealing with CA

Paine should permanently replace Smith as captain

That’s a good point, wouldn’t be surprised if it was sandpaper

Paine should permanently replace Smith as captain

What a hypocrite

““I think it (Smith’s punishment) is too lenient. ”

When faf was charged again

“I cannot believe the puppet show the @ICC has become, ball tampering allegations are a joke.”

In regards to the zipper incident when he was captain

“When Graeme Smith was asked if he thought du Plessis’ actions tainted South Africa’s series-levelling win in any way, his answer was limited to a single word. “No.””

“As a team we proceeded not to contest it…because as per the ICC regulations a full hearing could lead to more severe punitive measure which could include a heftier fine or even a match ban.”

So from the above it can be surmised that Smith doesn’t believe cheating taints performance in any way, nor that players should suffer harsh penalties for bowl tampering unless there not southafrican as Faf wasn’t punished in any way by Smith. Furthermore the South african cricket board also mandates cheating as every time they’ve been caught they have considered appealing the decision. So Smith is the biggest hypocrite ever.

Also the above incident with the zipper is airily similar to this one just in that instance south africa denied any wrong doing.

Paine should permanently replace Smith as captain

It’s consistent with prior convictions so hardly surprising.

Paine should permanently replace Smith as captain

If it had been Virat kholi he would have denied the whole thing and labelled the other team as “no friends of his” then bared his team from having drinks with them.

Six players that Australia must ban from the fourth Test

It will blow over to some extent. A good example of that is Stokes, people still remember his incident but it’s largely faded from view or been forgiven. It’s not up to us to decide whether he keeps it or not though.

Six players that Australia must ban from the fourth Test

The fact they contemplated it is damning enough. If he knew about it he’s damned as it reflects poorly on his integrity. If he didn’t he’s damned as it means his incompetent and players freely hatch major plans at lunchtime without his impute or consultation (or the consultation of other staff). Which begs the question what is he there for?

Six players that Australia must ban from the fourth Test

Really?

Then you clearly know no players of any integrity whatsoever. Peer pressure is a big thing but if there clearly doing something wrong tell the umps, people will hate you for it but doesn’t stop me and many other people i know.

I know personally that if i didn’t feel i had the right, or self confidence to tell the umps i wouldn’t take the field as i don’t agree with cheating at all. If the coach then asked me why i hadn’t taken the field i’d tell him the truth and hope he does the right thing.

You would think the vice captain or leadership group would have the authority or rank to be confident in disobeying the captain. Also there grown men i can’t see how nathan lyon being in the team for so long couldn’t just get up and say right i’m telling the coach etc about this as he would more or less be equals with the captain. The captain may tell you where to field, when to ball and bat but that’s about all the authority he has.

Six players that Australia must ban from the fourth Test

Possibly and probably true. My point however.

“The only State captain in the side.”

i rest my case.
