Always seems to come down to money in this league so I am assuming that

Yes I think that is a major concern with City – it’s always been that. But I don’t know if there is as tribal a rivalry between parts of Melb as there is in Syd. I think they will always be a ‘not Victory’ club now.

But I think if there was a team out east and it was branded it as such (please don’t call it Eastern United) – I think there could be a bit of a cult following. Don’t know if City is the right club to do that now – but also we are a long way off a 4th team in Melb, i hope.

How can the APL convince casual fans the A-League Men is worth supporting?

I follow the A League as closely as I possibly can, but I have never felt a tie to my local club. Victory – no thanks, City – Absolutely not, Western – barely deserved a spot in the comp. Don’t really feel attachment to any of them

If Team 11 had their bid successful, I would have supported them (I am from out that way originally). Likewise if CBR get this fabled A league team, now that I live here, I will 110% back them in – was a member of CU this year.

In saying that I am a rare breed who follows regardless of not being attached to a club. Mariners and Adelaide have always been my favourites has they have represent the way things could be run in smaller cities – with the right sized stadium, promoting youth, strong local support etc.

What a helpful comment SS thanks for that contribution 👍

felt like Quinn was used as a bit of a marketing ploy by Brisbane but it’s good to see him impress.

A-League clubs air grievances after Nestory Irankunda's shock snubbing of Olyroos duty

Yes I understand – it is a tricky situation. It’s always club over country for me – but it seems pointless to stand down players when squads are already relatively small in the A League, but also same token unfair for players to be around for some teams but others not around for other teams.

It’s great that our Olyroos are full of some A League talent though.

Whatever the solution I feel bad for Irankunda who is probably sick of being talked about and around.

A-League clubs air grievances after Nestory Irankunda's shock snubbing of Olyroos duty

I guess I have absolutely no skin in the game given I don’t follow a specific team – I acknowledge it’s shit for the teams that get called up, but I thought this was a bit ridiculous to complain – surely it is up to players to decide whether they go or not?

And the rules you quote – are they actually rules? and was Irankunda officially asked to join? Doesn’t sound like he was.

Have just read this on Millwood SS, given your recent comment. Looks interesting – let’s hope he’s now at least on the radar

William Millwood: Crvena Zvezda's latest Australian connection

Some interesting names, I really hope Jovanovic commits to Aus, I think he’s excellent

Irankunda sensationally turns down Olyroos spot in baffling update - and Vidmar left in lurch on eve of qualifying

Thanks SS. No need to discuss Nestor, a bit over everyone wanting to talk about this kid as well
AP is a good case in point and agree a conversation probably should have happened with Arnie if it didn’t.
Davidson I also reckon is age related (not that I think it matters when you have good up and coming left backs – pick Davidson to support them, esp given Behich is not available).

Irankunda sensationally turns down Olyroos spot in baffling update - and Vidmar left in lurch on eve of qualifying

Nah disagree.
Who’s the ‘has been Scotsman’? Burgess who grew up in Perth? Souttar who started playing for the Socceroos at 19? Only one I agree with is Gethin Jones.
I think it’s about managing a delicate situation where we have high potential players breaking into their club squads (Circati, Robertson) – pulling them away to likely not play as much as they would at club level. We’ve seen time and time again the issue of taking players away from clubs for internationals – Kewell, Cahill, Schwarzer etc were all given a hard time.
It’s strange that people think they know exactly what Arnold does, when he clearly has a good relationship with all of these players and is likely in constant communication and interviews with both players and him indicate exactly that.
Also if Robertson/Circati are both good enough to play for England/Italy it would make their lives so much easier, so you also cannot blame them for having second thoughts from that aspect either. I would say if SS had any examples of that, I’d hazard I guess that this would be the reason; not personal complains about Arnie but happy to be proven wrong (somehow)
Arnold is not a perfect manager but too many people find blame with him for everything to do with the NT

…Name one young player who Arnold has turned away from the National Team? I’ll give you Langerak, but he’s not young.
If you’re insinuating Irankunda is now going to play for Burundi… lol.
Volpato has chosen to not be selected. Circati, Robertson released/injured respectivelly.
Who are these quality young Australians who have decided to play for other countries?

I think he declined for the same reasons he wasn’t interested in the first place, I wouldn’t read too much into it to be honest.

FA should have stuck to their guns though – they didn’t select him, they had a plan with him, and this U turn (or whatever this is) has just nulled it.

That Iran game was horrendous, I was watching it with my sport-neutral partner – she rightly pointed out that this is why a lot of Aussies can never take the sport seriously. The middle east teams are the worst for it (i.e. Lebanon 2 weeks ago) and I despise playing that region for pretty much that reason

Simulation crackdown: If they like the spotlight so much, put A-League actors up before the Match Review Panel

I believe the point might be that the game (football) allows these things to occur relatively unchallenged – I agree.
I also completely agree, if a player is down ‘injured’ they should go off for at least 5 minutes for ‘medical attention’. Harsh on those who actually need treatment (but also for their benefit) and it will stop Cancars doing what they do for sure. If they clutch their face then 10 minutes for a concussion check 😛

so, so good. One of the best bits of -off-the-field stuff that has been done in recent years

Western United's football-specific facility is a milestone worth celebrating

Are you suggesting it’ll be a pretty easy run for Aus? I wouldn’t be so sure

'Hate to be in his shoes': Olyroos coach explains why he's snubbed Irankunda for Paris qualifiers when 'I could be selfish'

Haha, in the absence of supporting an actual club, the Mariners and Adelaide have been my favourite teams since I began watching 10-12 years ago – they have young talent and not scared to play them (or they have to because they are poor lol). They play youth and the NTs eventually benefit. Don’t get nearly enough credit, recognition or reward for doing what they do. Can’t believe Socceroos haven’t played there for nearly a decade.

Not having Circati is a huge shame. Should have just picked him for the Asian Cup in Jan, it seems (although he probs would have been benched). Not sure why Peupion hasn’t be released, given he’s not playing for Brighton. Triantis also a big loss. Bos (injured) too…

Squad is probably as I would have picked – except Mauragis has been hard done by. Don’t know who he replaces though. Rawlins too.

Midfield seems a bit weak, I need to see more of Valadon/Youlley. Not sure who other options are, but are they really our next best u23 midfielders?

I tend to agree – I’m sure SS will weigh in but I wouldn’t be surprised if between Nestor, AU, the national teams there is an agreement that club career needs to be settled first – he needs to be handled delicately I think. That being said I disagree, and I want to see him playing for our national teams. I think playing for Aus gives players a lot of pride and something to work towards.

agree with BT – he’s too old to make the move to a top 5 league now and he probs wouldn’t for family reasons anyway. But he is 100% good enough.

rankings are shocking indicators, but also super important. rather be ovverranked than underranked!

Tufano as much as I despise what MAC and WU stand for in terms of A league expansion – they were the wrong way to go – they are part of the fabric now, and there is at least some promise on both sides (MAC crowds have been improving – mainly because they’ve been performing; and WU finally, FINALLY moving to their home).

But I agree CBR and Wollongong should be shoe ins. Probably followed by a 2nd team in QLD if they can get their act together. I think they all can be relatively viable in current circumstances.

And not wrong re CBR summer – but the ALW seem to do it ok. It’s not ideal though, especially seeing as the hottest part of the day here is 4-6pm

Grinch!!!
He will get better. He’s clearly got the quality – can’t expect him to score or assist every game. He well and truly deserved it.

Kuol scored 2 goals. End of story. Why does every coach need sacking according to you? There’d be no coaches left
