Manly should be up near the top of the ladder now.

The spine was largely intact for the first two months of the season and we were having a good run with injuries. This was the time to win most games and drop one or two but we’ve stuffed up.

Racing to a twenty point lead used to mean you win just about every time but with the Beagles it means nothing at the moment.

Our form is much better than the early rounds of the year we made the top 4 under Hasler , a million times better , so in theory it shouldn’t take much to turn it around. Cut out a few ridiculous errors in the second half of most games played and we win. Over to you DCE.

Five and a kick: Latrell lets the side down, the Titans win that had been coming and Ciraldo's ideological purity

A bit too one eyed to be considered a great ref.

Cleary's Origin fate sealed after Panthers confirm hamstring damage as Hynes adds to Blues' injury woes

Cameron Smith remains as the games most valuable player of all time I’d say based on his ability but also on his durability.

Mam is special , his ability to turn a half chance into a try has a touch of Brett Stewart about it.

Arthur pressure mounts as Parra fail to make domination count against battling Broncos

The talent of Blaze , Mam and Walsh was evident even on a rainy night.

In an era where a lot of players operate to a formula , it’s good to watch talented players who don’t so much.

The competition is building up nicely and the way it will play out comes in a fair number of possibilities.

The Chooks and Broncos probably have the strongest teams overall but a few other teams are very strong also but without as much threat as these two.

Poor old Nick is struggling a bit with his magic.

His strike rate is down from 97% to 96%.

No doubt he’ll remedy this failure.

NRL News: Fifita picks his new club after dropping Titans bombshell, clubs warned whingeing players will be binned

Plenty of clubs have been caught cheating the cap. I can’t recall any punters on social media outlining how the Storm were a million over the cap the year after shedding Folau and a host of other stars.

This could have been used as ”proof” at the time if anyone questioned their compliance.

Nobody has any evidence that the Chooks are over the cap and therefore they are innocent.

The evidence presented as ”proof” that they are under the cap is a complete waste of time also.

The Storm’s case proved that to be a completely futile concept.

To me the Roosters are doing something no other club is doing to piece together an all star team. Exactly what that is, is conjecture. At the moment you’d have to assume its legal.

It would be ironic if the only club I can recall being accused by some of cheating the cap is not doing it.

As for the Storm. I remember hearing a coach at another club wondering how the Storm were able to sign the best young potential superstars and other clubs weren’t getting a look in (in an interview after the event). It wasn’t evidence but it was smoke.

Articles at the time claimed the Chooks needed forwards , not Cronk, also.

Many a true word is said in jest Noel.

Something draws the best players to the Chooks. The history of the area and a nice glass of wine seems to carry a lot of weight.

Manly were completely outplayed by Saints but should have won most of the other games after being well in control. The Titans were unlucky against us .

Talau has been great for a month but why didn’t he pass to Koula for a try? Has he been swapping notes with Garrick?

You’ve got to win a fair share of close games but we’re finding ways of losing these games and the wheels have fallen off. What happens next is anyone’s guess.

NSW turmoil continues as Turbo's hamstring goes again and Manly chuck away another lead in Dolphins disaster

The Chooks don’t muck around when buying players.

The Storm and Pennies lose players all the time but can only ever afford to buy bargain players with potential usually. The first time the Pennies have spare dollars they are put in their place by the magical powers of Uncle Nick.

Start making room in the trophy cabinet Robbo. Reece Walsh is going to love life at Bondi beach as well.

Makes you wonder why they don’t fix the scrums if the solution is that easy?

Impressive-looking, not hard-fought: Trend toward the flashy is eating away at what rugby league ought to be

They might return now Penrith has a beach?

Panthers' plea for player development discounts will fall on deaf ears - and Fifita is not the answer to their JFH dilemma

Disadvantage comes in various forms.

Manly take their home game against the Broncos each season to the Broncos home turf because it makes sense financially.

Most clubs have a stunning home ground provided by the tax payers. The Pennies are next on the list.

Since I’ve been watching the game I’ve seen the Eels provided with two new stadiums.

The Pennies dominance has a strong element of good fortune apart from the fine work they have done as well. The crucial player in their success is Nathan Cleary.

Both he and his old man are from the Northern beaches. It’s very rare for someone to end up out west somewhere like Penrith after starting out on the coast at Sydney. It’s one way traffic the other way. The Cleary’s could have ended up at any number of clubs but the way Ivans career panned out as a player and coach conspired to deliver them both to the Pennies.

Manly has had very minimal success with sons of players of the club and it’s interesting how when we get a beauty , he is the rare one who doesn’t start at Manly.

I’m not complaining but it’s a stroke of luck that’s a big part of the Pennies run.

Panthers' plea for player development discounts will fall on deaf ears - and Fifita is not the answer to their JFH dilemma

It’s funny how Manly have got three players who excel at SOO while the trophy cabinet gathers dust. Maybe the big O excels as well. He should.

I liked it better when Manly players looked a bit out of sorts in SOO but were winning the odd comp.

Saints had a spell when they were doing well at SOO but not where it counts.

Fullback to the future: Why Madge’s No.1 choice for Blues jersey will define how his side plays

Everything’s fine by you Albo , you’ve hit the jackpot following the Pennies.

Impressive-looking, not hard-fought: Trend toward the flashy is eating away at what rugby league ought to be

It seems that Turbo is playing injured. I’ve seen strapping on his shoulder. He’s still better than most with his current form but if he is injured at SOO time then I think he should inform the selectors and not play.

I could be wrong but he still doesn’t look 100%.

Teds form has picked up and I can see him doing better than last series but he’s probably not the match winner he was.

Edwards plays right up to his potential and I wouldn’t complain if he was picked but he’s a bit like Gutho. Solid , committed and great but Gutho looked out of his level at SOO and I’m not sure if Edwards would be the same. It’s possible.

You could say the same about Jake but he is really suited to that arena. It’s obviously a different sort of comparison but some players just look at home in SOO. Greg Bird is another who comes to mind. Wighton is another.

Bennett had a fair bit of help from the refs in 2006 and could have easily missed out on his seventh.

History fades though and it’s all about the winner regardless of much else.

Ricky Stuart could be sitting on three titles by now with a touch of luck.

Bennett is a short-term solution for Souths – the elite of the NRL might have moved past him

I didn’t think you’d fancy the AI concept. Hold on tight it’s on the way.

All sports started off with the naked eye making decisions but then progress got in the way of that idea.

Anyone who doesn’t like change and progress better jump into a time machine and go back a fair way. I suppose there are little groups you can join like the Amish.

NRL Round 9 Talking Points: Abuse of Kasey Badger is way out of line - on and off the field

Humans have buckleys chance of working out the truth with a single look at high speed in many decisions in sport.

Any fan would prefer if someone with a little stick with a flag on the end of it could tell if a goal scorer is onside in Premier League. Trouble is they are just like umpires in Tennis. A relic from another era.

A.I will take over before too long and we’ll get these pesky humans out of the equation.

NRL Round 9 Talking Points: Abuse of Kasey Badger is way out of line - on and off the field

There is a great alternative for those fans who love contested scrums.

As an added bonus you get lineouts and mauls as well as contested kicks.

The sequence of a scrum , a collapse , scum , collapse , lecture , scrum , collapse, penalty , goal , kick off , kick , maul , penalty and lecture has it’s followers.

Impressive-looking, not hard-fought: Trend toward the flashy is eating away at what rugby league ought to be

Crighton has a new lease of life and is one of the form players in the comp.

NSW will be relying on current and former Pennies players to get the job done in SOO.

Maybe a couple of Chooks and Eagles will be there as well.

Five and a kick: An all-Dogs edge for NSW, Manly's predictable collapse and why Benji's old boys should know better

Does getting rid of the bunker mean you’ll get greater overall accuracy in awarding tries?

That seems to be the inference but it isn’t true and can’t be true.

NRL Round 9 Talking Points: Abuse of Kasey Badger is way out of line - on and off the field

Sami’s reaction gave it away but the Walters one wasn’t a couple of centimetres it was three feet.

The bunker gets them wrong but at a much reduced rate.

NRL Round 9 Talking Points: Abuse of Kasey Badger is way out of line - on and off the field

I remember Kerrod Walters being awarded a try against manly after dropping the ball from waist height. All the Broncos players were clearly distraught that the try was bombed hands on heads and next minute , bingo , try awarded.

If anyone wants that sort of try back on the agenda , that’s fair enough but I don’t.
