And if it had been a blowout – as the 3-1 favoritism suggested – then many viewers would have felt best served changing channels to something else or turning off. Give em another afl option: it’s not rocket science…just common sense…like having your questioners miked up…I’m looking at you (for the last 2-3 years Adelaide…It’s not rocket science – respect your fans!

AFL Friday Footy Fix: Sensational Showdown deserved the spotlight, but not as a double act

Deja vu: old final five system for me

The AFL is ready for a ten-team finals series

Thanks 🙂

A best of three grand final series arguably makes things worse

Agreed.

So only the S.E. conference would play home and away games at the G. ??

Quest for pick 1: Can the Adelaide Crows land Jack Lukosius?

Great article – very level-headed IMO, except that they missed the finals by one game plus change – not by a “significant margin”. Journalistic licence, you say? 2019 is the year to make amends before their half dozen veterans get too old.

So do what you have to do to get Fantasia/Rankine and Precocius Lukosius aka PK in, and pray to the footy gods re Brad Crouch. Big Sauce looked clueless at times this year – although I’d dump Clarke before Sauce. Love Big Sauce, but if O’Brien can’t bump Sauce, it’s gonna need a re-think.

Pleased to say that I have withdrawn my long-standing ‘Bring a Trailer’ offer of a free set of steak knives for JJ. May need to trade Himmelberg to help get PK – who would need a year in the two’s anyway – probably. Keith and the Galooch look the goods, Milera and Doodee shone, what’s not to like?

Don and Tex are the two really under pressure IMO. The coaching group seems too old-school: unable to come up with successful in-game adjustments to to the way the team plays, and would need to address that weakness: It’s not rocket science – it’s called preparing and implementing a Plan B for every opponent. The Crows don’t seem to even have a quality swing-man either, which was the old-school Plan B. Tex needs to get his body right, and let his footy do the talking. The power-stance was/is great IMO – who threw that idea out, I wonder. I bet Neil Balme wishes he’d thought of it.

Let’s not forget that the Crows were pre-season favorites and remained so during the early rounds, because until they hit the wall in Alice (or thereabouts) they showed that they had found the edge their game seemed to lack in 2017. They need to learn the hard lessons of 2018, pick themselves up and dust themselves off, and go balls-out for the first half of the year to show they’ve got their mojo back and learned a few new tricks.

Bottom Line: Shit happens for a reason.

Quest for pick 1: Can the Adelaide Crows land Jack Lukosius?

In any case, I haven’t been to a game in 20 years or so, therefore my perspective is somewhat limited.

Panic! at the AFL

Trial balloon or thought bubble – it seems to be part of the process. Anyway, a friend put a sly question to me during the Showdown last weekend asking me to explain the holding the man/ holding the ball rule. “That’s the beauty of our game” came my poker-faced reply.

Panic! at the AFL

Just finished writing a 25k book – thought I’d handball.

AFL 2019 Evolution – Clean it up!

I’ve been a footy fan for 50 years and the suggestions below are the best that I’ve thought of or heard suggested recently.

1. Scoring
a. Two points for a deliberate rushed behind: definitely.
b. Two points for hitting the goal post: maybe.

2. Field Play
a. Reduce 50m penalty to 40m: 50 is too far – especially now.
b. Longer goal square and no kicking to yourself in the air: trade-off.
c. No kicking backwards into the defensive 50 arc: the line is already there.
d. Two forwards/two defenders inside each forward 50 at all times: or 3

3. Teams
a. 16 players: why 18?
b. 4 interchange: or three.
c. no cap on rotations: try it again now.

4. Players
a. 20 y.o. minimum: life beyond football
b. Yellow card when deliberate act injures player: one off/both off

5. Umpires
a. Three umps good, four umps bad: put it away
b. Protected zone bad, illegal interference call good: players know
