i heard he’s really balanced – a chip on each shoulder

If you don't worship Bazball then you know nothing about cricket - just ask anyone from England's deluded cult

JamesH, I was going to argue with you, but then I checked Statsguru.
With a qualification of 10 innings batting in the top 3 – Short’s average is quite reasonable (and far better than I expected) at 34.23 (36.37 just as an opener) placing him 21st on the overall list but his strike rate is just 122.52 which places him in 88th place. Multiplying SR and Avg puts him in a respectable 38th place.
All of which suggests two things to me:
1. he’s (maybe) good enough to bat in the top 3 but probably not elsewhere in the order
2. Australia has a dearth of top 3 batsmen in T20i – we could be in trouble when Warner and Finch retire.

Glenn Maxwell's injury exposes Australia's dearth of middle-order batsmen

Darcy Short isn’t the answer, and given that he was selected, I’m not even sure what the question was.
Now, I’m not convinced that Jono Wells is the answer either, but once again the weight of runs in a specialist middle order position (at a pretty good strike rate) over two BBL seasons appears to have counted for nothing.
Probably the selectors don’t think he can step up to international level bowling, but based on the available evidence, Short can’t either, and he’s already been given a shot. This makes his selection a wasted opportunity for another player who may actually prove they can make the grade (like Labuschagne did in Tests).

Now I’m not a Shane Watson fan – so this may be just a rant – but for me the 62 runs he scored on day 2 when conditions were easy and the bowling was too should count for nothing. If he’s going to play Test cricket then he needs to stand up when conditions are tough. and his record under those circumstances (in this game) – 1 ball, 0 runs – not good enough.
I get that it wasn’t easy for anybody, anybody Australian at any rate, but if you talk a great game then you need to follow up.
