Well, Tom Brady is getting all the accolades for winning another Super Bowl, but the real winner was Bucs running back LeSean McCoy, who has now won back-to-back Super Bowl titles – without playing a single down.
A quarterback duel for the ages, two of the most well coached teams in the league, 25,000 fans and 30,000 cutouts will make this Super Bowl one for the ages.
As the old saying goes – “when there’s smoke, there’s fire.”
There are concussions, GOAT discussions and Super Bowl repercussions, as some of the NFL’s biggest names go head-to-head on Monday.
Look, I know we are enjoying summer at the beach, watching the cricket and haven’t turned the corner on Australia Day yet. But there is something we need to discuss: just like objects in your car’s wing mirror, which may be “closer than they appear”, so too is the start of the 2021 rugby season.
After a Super Wild Card weekend, we are now down to the final four.
The playoff spots and top 18 draft spots are signed, sealed and delivered.
Playoff and top draft positions sorted, coach firings, a butt fumble recovery and more bizarre occurrences in the final week of regular season action.
Seven playoff spots are up for grabs in each NFL conference and there is only one week to go. It’s coming down to the wire.
There were records, upsets and the throw of the year. With one week left until the playoffs, where are we at?
With the NFL playoffs just around the corner, teams are still jockeying for seeding as we enter Week 16.
NFL games on Thursday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday made for a football buffet this week. So, who rumbled, bumbled or stumbled?
Plenty of playoff previews this week, with a stack of points scored, as well as a lot of big plays being made on defense. Who’s hot and who’s not?
In a rugby league season with no international matches having taken place, it made a lot of sense to name a Kangaroos merit team to celebrate what could have been in a more normal year.
Reaction has been swift and varied to shock reports that James O’Connor has reportedly approached the Chiefs about playing in Super Rugby Aotearoa next year.
Week 13 in the NFL proved to be unlucky for game schedulers, teams with zero losses or wins and Carson Wentz. So, how do they stack up?
Long waits, strange results, coach firings and COVID calamity – here’s this week’s run down.
Overtime thrillers, the catch of the year (twice) and a season obituary – this is what you came for.
Before Argentina’s first-ever victory over the All Blacks, a lot of people already knew that Argentine captain Pablo Matera was a baller.
What a bunch of old romantics.
…and I gotta say – I’M ONE OF THEM!
There will hopefully be emotional scenes as the Force tip up the defending champs in Perth.
At least that’s what I’m imagining, as it’ll be way after my bed time to watch it live. zzzzzzz……
Super Rugby AU Week 1: Back on like Donkey Kong
Is anyone else seeing this like rugby’s version of the board game RISK?
Can hear them at Stan HQ:
“Tomorrow… we take Major League Rugby!!”
😂
Stan Sport nabs Australian broadcast rights for Japanese Top League
Yeah Billy can play 15 and this new kid Ruben Love is an outside back prospect as well.
Haven’t seen him play, but there’s good things being said about him.
Super Rugby Aotearoa: Team by team
Hang in there mate.
I thought we were going to be awful last year – especially after getting belted by the Stormers in the first game (back in the good old days…).
But that Jason Holland did some really great stuff with them, though it’ll be even harder this year without TJ.
Beauden would’ve been looking on thinking – “OK, so NOW you go get a rock scrum and set piece” 😡
I miss BB and TJ…and Ben Lam for that matter. What a player.
Super Rugby Aotearoa: Team by team
I’ve seen Koroi used mainly at fullback or sometimes 10. My guess is that he’ll have a better shot in the outside backs, as those positions are a bit more up in the air.
Guessing they’d start the season with 15 Mitch Hunt, 14 Solomon Alaimalo, 11 Jona Nareki, possibly with Koroi as a good utility off the bench?
Would love to see him get a crack!
Super Rugby Aotearoa: Team by team
Not a Blues fan, but would be happy for someone – ANYONE – to knock off the Crusaders 😔
Super Rugby Aotearoa: Team by team
Yeah, I’m excited to see what old mate Tony Brown can get from them.
BRING BACK THE RAZZLE DAZZLE!
Super Rugby Aotearoa: Team by team
Good call.
They have had a charmed run for the past three years.
Didn’t take full advantage though…
NFL power rankings: Season’s end
Thanks Paul, now that you mention it – I guess I might just have to.
I do have an idea for a draft article which is far less serious (actually more stupid), but yeah happy to wade into the waters of a proper rundown too.
Would be awesome to do one of those fan mock drafts, where each team picks in order – that’d be fun (though WAAAYYYYYY too hard to co-ordinate) 😂 😂
Looks like your boys could be letting Juju walk?
NFL power rankings: Season’s end
Love the positive affirmation!
Not a Waratahs fan as such, but living in Sydney, so keen to see the Tahs to do well and get people engaging with the game.
I reckon you’ve got a real star on your hands with this kid Will Harrison – looking forward to seeing what he does this year.
Looking forward to the Tahs’ season? Nah, yeah
Good call ferg.
As a neutral supporter, I don’t think I’ve ever been so juiced for a Superbowl!
An inter-generational clash which is rarely seen in any sport.
Bring.
It.
On.
This Super Bowl is the closest thing you'll ever get to LeBron versus MJ
Life is just so unfair sometimes 😂 😂
Who will be number one? NFL conference championships
CHOO-CHOOO!!!
Super Rugby’s hype train is rollin’…
Bloody awesome breakdown @Jez, especially given the lack of announced squads for certain teams.
Any word on why these squad announcements are so late?
Seems to me if you’re trying to compete, it will be extremely tough if the Aus squads are only announced when NZ sides are already knee-deep in pre-season training??
How do the Super Rugby AU squads stack up?
Chiefs v Bucs Superbowl
Brady v Mahomes
This could be something special 😊
Who will be number one? NFL conference championships
YES!!!
Can’t wait for it – LET’S GET THE HYPE TRAIN ROLLING!
🏉 🏉 🏉
Super Rugby is actually super close
Mate, I could not agree more with that – def too early to start.
I would be even MORE excited if it started later (as would a lot of people), but I wanted to get us all up to speed (and maybe even a little bit amped), cos there’s really not much else being put out there for it 😔
Super Rugby is actually super close
Maybe NZR should’ve just renamed them OVERLORDS??
Cos, as much as it pains me to say – I think you’re right Paulo. 😔
Super Rugby is actually super close
I hear ya!
Pretty curious about the whole situation myself, so I’ll do some digging and see what I can track down…
Super Rugby is actually super close
There was certainly something about the footage of Ben sitting on the bench looking with Pouncey. Looked like he’d just seen the end of his career. But then again, that could’ve just been the lighting (can’t trust anything these days!).
See Philly gave Doug Pederson the flick too?!
Good job, I think he set fire to a number of things in that last game…..including his contract 👎
Who will be number one? NFL wild card round
I’m a little bit afraid of the Ravens. I know they’d have to do it from the ‘outside lane’, but it looks like Harbaugh is getting them going at just the right time.
Hope they don’t though – I’ll cheer for the Chiefs to repeat, cos Mahomes is just amazing. If not them – maybe the Bills?
Who will be number one? NFL wild card round
Go, Christos and the Browns!!!
I need to issue a CORRECTION too sorry team – the Colts are playing Buffalo NOT Tennessee 😱
Wish I could say I was writing before my morning coffee….but…. I don’t even drink coffee!
Anyways, glad that’s off my conscience, enjoy the wild card round 😂 😂
NFL power rankings: Week 17
Yeah, gotta love the conference system sometimes.
Really worked a treat in Super Rugby 🏉 👎
Who will be number one? NFL wild card round
Cheers Paul!
Good to know someone’s still reading 😂 😂
RE: tackling, it sounds like you’ve been watching too many Falcons games 🤢 🤢
NFL power rankings: Week 17
I do agree – that is such a nice blue on the Chargers 👍 👍
