Wow. Just wow. I normally enjoy your writing but this article is just so WRONG! So much so that this ìs the first reply I have written in years. What DeGoey did is NOT ACCEPTABLE, whether the other person thinks it is or not. Society’s standards are moving on, thankfully, even if a minority do not realise it. And as for the so called “penalty”, here’s what you should of written: PI$$WEAK pies parade pathetically pi$$poor priorities!

Media bullying of Jordan De Goey has been a disgusting witch-hunt

Doesn’t Cotch have an issue that he’s already had 2 fines this year?
This would mean that if the MRP grades it at all (even as only a fineable offence) Cotch will still get rubbed out for a week as it would be his “3rd strike”…

WATCH: Will this high contact cost Trent Cotchin a grand final?

I’d have to agree with Peter.
One team team goes up in rankings when playing with a massive home advantage and only win by 2 goals against a team who don’t play top 8 sides well.
Another team drops a place in rankings when they win by 8 goals whilst playing interstate against the defending reigning premier.
Can someone please explain how a team who only won by 2 goals at home moves ahead of a team who won by 8 goals interstate!

AFL Power Rankings 2017: Round 21

“Not a fan of Josh Kennedy AT West Coast” – same here. He should have stayed at Carlton because there’s no way that he would have developed into the player he has become (especially by the time Malthouse had finished with him).

AFL Team of the Week: Round 18

“Fans come first.” Good one Penster, I spat coffee all over my phone from laughing at that comment.

How the final round of the 2017 AFL season should unfold

I can’t believe the comments I’m seeing here about sacking the recruitment department but keeping Buckley! Does anyone honestly believe that if the recruitment department was bringing in players (both individuals and types of players) that weren’t 100% what Buckley asked for, or agreed with, that Bucks wouldn’t be immediately advising Eddie to ensure that they changed their ways or were moved on!
This list is wholly Buckley’s and no-one elses.

List management the coach-killer at Collingwood

Do you have any of this available on a website for others to view?

The Giants' consecutive draws is history repeating

What has our great game come to. Given what we see every year on that stupid Brownlow red rug, in excess of 95% modern footballers must be weak of spine and spirit.

The Roar’s AFL expert tips and predictions: Round 15

To quote Lisa Simpson on the stench that is Washington DC: “With liberty and justice for none”

Kangaroo supporters must be spewing that the club didn’t appeal Cunningman’s decision.

From now on if clubs don’t appeal then those making the decision should be sacked.

The tribunal tonight said ‘please appeal, we want the money we get paid for hearings and so that you do appeal we will happily overturn the long institutionalized positions held by the MRP’.

AFL Tribunal: Will Schofield not guilty, Bachar Houli cops two-week ban

AFL live blog stated opposite argument: “QC arguing if Oliver was hurt, he WOULDN’T have got up and tried to retaliate.”

AFL Tribunal: Will Schofield not guilty, Bachar Houli cops two-week ban

The WCE QC stated it was specifically contact with Schofield’s back so the footage must be available.

AFL Tribunal: Will Schofield not guilty, Bachar Houli cops two-week ban

You should be laughing now. Based on that outcome Schofield will get a penalty of negative 3 weeks!

AFL Tribunal: Will Schofield not guilty, Bachar Houli cops two-week ban

So if he had of pled guilty he would have only gotten 1. What a joke. Everyone who gets offered 2 down to 1 by the MRP has to appeal for the rest of the year and use this as their precedent!

Fair dinkum the AFL needs to appeal the decision in order to keep the integrity of the MRP, but they won’t given Houli is one of their cultural ambassador darlings.

AFL Tribunal: Will Schofield not guilty, Bachar Houli cops two-week ban

Can’t imagine how Turnbull’s glowing praise will be of much help. He used to have praise for Tony Abbott too until he knifed him.

AFL Tribunal: Will Schofield not guilty, Bachar Houli cops two-week ban

Why should an umpire comment on intent (unless it’s whether or not there was sufficient intent to keep the ball in play when it crosses over the boundary line)?

AFL Tribunal: Will Schofield not guilty, Bachar Houli cops two-week ban

Give it up Mattician6x6. Your boy elbowed him to the jaw and by the end of tonight will be out for 2 weeks instead of 1 because he decided to prove how stupid the whole footy club is and appeal!
Look at the replay in full speed and you’ll see there was insufficient time in between the surprise elbow to the jaw and Oliver falling down to even think about what happened, yet alone to then react to it and initiate a ‘dive’ as you keep claiming.

Round 14 was a cracker, Round 15 could be even better

Ryan, you surprise me by not mentioning the fact that the style of game the bombers want to play is the same style that consistently brings the swans undone. Both Carlton and Hawthorn play the slow, precision, high marking count game that Essendon play and both of those teams made the swans look ordinary (and the Hawks did it on this very same ground that you say will defeat the bombers).

Mind you I still think the swans will win, but only just. I think it’ll come down to the midfield pressure from the swans getting over an inconsistent bomber output across the night.

Sydney vs Essendon: Friday Night Forecast

“From start to finish, it was a near debacle for the Dogs, who have hit their bye at precisely the right time for a significant reset.”

Sorry to inform doggies supporters who place hope on a bye to give them a circuit breaker but they had their bye in the week before the Swans game not this week. Unless you’re saying that playing Melbourne is like having the bye, but that would be referring to prior years not this year*.

*Comment based on evidence to date, where Melbourne is only 1 of 2 teams to have not suffered a blow-out, hence their percentage being +10% compared to the bulldogs. They have also won games at Etihad this year as opposed to many previous years.

AFL Round 12: Every dog has its day – except, you know, the Dogs

Too many people have been burnt by Richmond across more seasons than the Port Adelaide Magpies have won premierships. Therefore it takes an awful lot of convincing for people to be persuaded that they are a real chance. As the Power Rankings are perception based the Ninthmond bias will always come into play.

AFL Power Rankings 2017: Round 12

“I can’t help but feel that with Daniel Wells and Jamie Elliott in the side, Collingwood would have have the dynamism needed to slice Melbourne to ribbons before half-time and make any talk of a comeback nothing but fantasy.”

That statement could of also read: I can’t help but feel that with Max Gawn and Jesse Hogan in the side, Melbourne would have sliced Collingwood to ribbons before half time and make any talk of Collingwood being 28 up nothing but fantasy.

Also I never figured you to be a Buckley apologist. Maybe a quick review of the year to date plus what’s to come will help.

Collingwood’s wins so far this year:
– beat a Fremantle side who were sans Sandilands, but then again even Brisbane can do that.
– beat Brisbane. WOW that’s a shock result
– beat a team on the slide in Hawthorn
– had a surprise win over a sleeping and terrible on the day, Geelong
– beat another team on the slide in Sydney during their worst phase at the start of the year.

Looking at their run home they should win 3 games. But to get to 12 wins for a good chance to make finals they have to win 4 out of 6 games against teams that should beat them. So far this year they have only managed that once.

So realistically Collingwood will end up with the same number of wins as last year (maybe even less) and a lower spot on the ladder given how other teams have progressed. That should mean Buckley is gone, but with Eddie in charge it’ll probably mean a 5 year contract extension!

Twelve quick takes from AFL Round 12

Your stats and comments about the two midfields definitely don’t reflect Champion Data’s pre-season rankings. Pies were rated the number 1 midfield and Dees 18th! On paper it certainly looks closer than that now. It’ll be interesting to see how it pans out on the MCG versus everyone’s paper/computers especially given Melbourne have only one out of five at their home ground this year.

Melbourne vs Collingwood: Queen's Birthday Forecast

Acres misses by acres!

Adelaide Crows vs St Kilda Saints Highlights: AFL live scores, blog

I’m guessing you wrote your article prior to Swans thumping of the Bulldogs because as a numbers man you wouldn’t have made such a basic mathematical error as this:

After last night’s result if Demons happen to beat the Pies they would finish 7th not 8th as they would jump over West Coast and Bulldogs on percentage. (And if Lions happen to beat the sans Sandilands Dockers, which I think could well happen, then we know Collingwood will win because there’s no way Melbourne would ever take an opportunity to jump up to 6th on the ladder!)

Adelaide vs St Kilda: Friday Night Forecast

“Jeremy Howe’s form has been a credit to his reinvention as an attacking intercept defender.”
A reinvention that started 3 years ago while he was still at Melbourne – part of the reason he gave for moving to the pies so he could play forward again. Howe’s that working out for you? What a Howeler of a call!

Will Collingwood flirt with form at years end?

Unfortunately in some ways your argument falls down under its own weight. You argue that adults watching the game today grew up with more punches than play – so why do they still watch now even though there is only an odd melee now and then and no outright brawls anymore?

If there’s more people than ever watching the game now and violence is down on the past, why can’t you accept that there’s a correlation between the 2?

Although for the fans it is a game, for the players this is a workplace. It is not acceptable for violence in the workplace why should it be different for the AFL players?

Finally the best way to stamp this out is for the bloody umpires’ boss to do the right thing and tell the umpires to pay a free kick there and then! No matter how ‘soft’ – too high is still too high!

The Tom Hawkins suspension is a disgrace
