Cricket tragic living in Ipswich, QLD (McDermott/Watson territory). Aspiring to travel the world, watch cricket and write about stuff.

Agree Atawhai, it’s premature to say that it was the wrong decision in terms of the result. I think in terms of team morale though, England enjoyed what could have been a very dismal night for them. Anderson and Woakes found their best form with the ball, and suddenly, the Australian top 3 are short of runs. Bancroft especially, has been exposed with full balls swinging away. Warner too, will be desperate to break the shackles in the next few tests.

The English partnership which forced Smith's hand

I see the argument about Khawaja’s lack of tests in the subcontinent. But I think the series that permanently damaged his reputation against spin bowling was the 2013 Ashes in England. 5 out 6 dismissals against spin, in traditionally seaming conditions – in an Ashes series that he wasn’t expected to play in – was always going to count against Khawaja. Yes, the third dismissal wasn’t out – but he never looked comfortable that series. If he played in Colombo last year, that would have been his final chance to prove himself.

Stop-start selection is hurting Khawaja

Agreed, Wade is a thinking cricketer with a power game. Not that he plays expansively – he just hits good cricket shots. Wade also played really well against England in 2015.

Wade key to Australia's Champions Trophy hopes

There’s been little to no build up in Australia. The players have either been playing IPL, focusing on the money dispute, or playing whatever cricket is available to them. Either the players won’t click, or playing cricket will be the best thing for them. I think England and South Africa have the edge, as they are playing a 3-match ODI series before the tournament begins.

Can Australia win a third ICC Champions Trophy?

Cricket Australia has had this coming for years with overly-packed scheduling. It’s about time they remember they are people, not just players.

Ian Chappell lauds players in pay spat after CA gambled on greed

Exactly. And the Gatting reverse sweep from the 87 World Cup still gets talked about… Mike was just ahead of his time!

The worst shots by tail-enders

I must admit I was pretty kind James! I must have been comparing Gabriel with Tait lol.

The worst shots by tail-enders

It’s hard finding positive outcomes from Pat’s appointment. Players are still getting injured, we still suck at T20 and we rarely win overseas. I think those are the main aspects of performance that Pat was hired to rectify. However, I think poor selections, a jam-packed international schedule, and flat pitches in Australia have had a part to play too.

Stuart Clark reckons he's "useless," so why did Pat Howard get a new contract?

It’s always really cool finding a new country in the cricket world. They should play in unknown cricket countries more often. Not only does it bring in a new global audience, but it adds some context for fans at home watching the repetitive cricketing calendar. I remember Aus-Ind-WI playing a tri-series in Malaysia 11 years ago.

Singapore Cricket Club: Cricket in the nation of Merlion!

I think it’s also a great chance to continue our development in the sub-continent. David Warner especially, will be desperate for a big series.

Australia's Bangladesh trip crucial for both nations

I’m not so disappointed about Channel 9’s predicament as I am Channel 10’s. 9 may have pioneered cricket’s television coverage, but 10 has kept up with the times.

Chasing the audience: is it over and out for cricket on free to air TV?

Agreed Ronan. I think it’s down to Handscomb and Bailey, since they’re both playing in England at the moment. If the selectors maintain their preference towards youth, Handscomb will get the nod over Bailey.

Champions Trophy: Handscomb could leapfrog Khawaja and Bailey

Only took me an hour, was bored as hahaha

Ashes: The Pink Wash poem

Interesting article, I think most Australian and English cricketers are genuine blokes. But that changes when you step over those ropes. Always admired Hussey & Dravid, so humble and respectful – never took the game for granted

Selecting cricket's Gentleman's XI

Definitely agree with all your points about time management. Drinks breaks are understandable on hot days, but I think on cooler days they are used by captains to strategize with and motivate the team (which Cook did on day 1 in Adelaide). But I disagree on changing the toss, because cricket revolves around luck as much as it does skill – that’s the theatre of it. Regardless of the toss result, teams still have to earn their success.

Time to change cricket's antiquated rules

Fair enough!

Why KP will be the key player at Adelaide

Very interesting insight, thanks Dizzy

DIZZY: What it was like to bowl to Sachin Tendulkar

Who would have thought they’d be the ones with selection issues in the lead up to this series! England are on the back foot, they’re going to need a special batting performance to at least muster a draw.

England facing risky selections for Adelaide

I still think Aus can win if they show enough discipline.

Can England bounce back in Adelaide?
