As Dogs said below, how many of those run metres are cheap metres from his team forcing long kicks to him?
Where is he in attack? I doubt he would be in the top 10 fullbacks for try assists.
Very good at what he does but not nearly as well rounded as Tedesco.
Outfoxxed: Addo-Carr stood down from Kangaroos after Knockout brawl, Edwards finally gets rep chance
Agree with your assessment of Ponga however I also agree with The Barry’s assessment of Tedesco. So, with Tedesco selected i don’t have a spot for Ponga.
Kangaroos squad: Cleary injured, Meninga backs Tedesco after snubbing in-form trio as Latrell 'comeback' surprises
I think Fifita is unlucky not to be in the side, especially given there is only one genuine backrower in the squad.
I’d probably have picked Best ahead of Holmes and Staggs but not a whole lot in it.
The rest of the squad is pretty much exactly what i would expect.

Did you watch his last few games for Australia?

Hear, hear

Maybe find a passing game and set up a try or two. Something more than simply running the ball would be a start.

I’m not quite sure that is the case. The reverse is certainly true. If he was to play for NZ he would become ineligible for any further games for Qld. But, I dont believe having played for Qld would technically rule him out of playing for NZ as the IRL would have their own criteria separate to Origin

Edwards running metres is the most overpraised individual attribute in the game. Yes, it is his role in the team. Yes, he performs it very well. Yes, it is good to see a bloke make the most of his skillset through hard work and dedication. However, his running metres are predominantly a reflection of his sides game plan and physical dominance. There are very few fullbacks (a couple of the light weights aside) who could not perform this role, heck most wingers could.
Edwards ability to organise a defensive line however is elite and for some reason never mentioned. It is what he brings to the Panthers side that any old effort merchant can not.

ANALYSIS: Johnson and Egan power Warriors into Prelim - but Newcastle did everything to help them out
Marketing departments analyse the clicks. In all likelihood Warriors stories, comparatively, are not clicked on. If they were the coverage would already exist.
Treating the Warriors as second-class citizens is dumb business by NRL and Australian-centric media
Agree no excuse for biting.
I just don’t think he bit him.
Wighton should have been hit for six over Knight bite - and given an extra match for arrogant sledge at heated hearing
Powerful runner, probably just needs to improve his tackle efficiency. 23 was his first year fulltime in league and first year against men so i think it will improve naturally. Defence didnt look like an obvious but statistically it appears to be.

Just because something is the current plan it doesn’t mean it should be stuck to. If it is clearly a bad plan, are they not better off with a new one? It honestly would not surprise me if Tigers are no better under Benji. But a 72 year old who has been out of the game for a decade was a bad option, just as a recently retired player with no coaching experience will likely be a bad option.
It is not necessarily about giving the coach one year to get wins or get out. There needs to be signs that the club will become competitive under their guidance. Sheens/Benji haven’t managed to recruit anyone of note despite having a lot of cap space and haven’t been able to retain the players that were coming off contract. This would indicate that the players, both within and outside the club, don’t believe in the vision being sold. Add in the decline in results since the previous coach was punted and it is clear that the plan was a bad one that should be aborted.
Benji taking reins early as Tigers make cut-throat call on Sheens: 'Suggestions about us knifing Tim are demeaning'
He went a long way backwards with a team that recruited 3 rep players and a 4th former representative. How can you justify giving him more time?

Not sure how I feel. The original decision to punt Madge was bad. Appointing Sheens was worse, so am glad that he is gone. I just have no confidence that a very inexperienced Benji is a better option.

The only issues I had with Klein’s performance was stopping to warn Tedesco. The previous half a dozen infringements should have been the warning and a Rooster binned then. Conversely, were Manly warned? Whilst I don’t think teams have a right to a warning if a warning is deemed appropriate for one side it should be appropriate for the other.
Otherwise the fault is with the players for breaching the rules, not the ref enforcing them.
Fans should get a refund: Refereeing de-Klein shows how far NRL's gone backwards since golden age of officials
I’ve no issue with Cartwright returning serve as a way of standing up for his club and mate.
The rest of this article however is garbage and the author should know better. Although both teams were at the bottom of the ladder a few years ago, they were hardly in the same position as others have stated.
Comments from The Barry, Pomoz and RLFan are spot on.
Who needs a seven-year plan when you have Kevvie? Cartwright rightfully tells Gus to stay in his lane
okay, it is one of the reasons nobody likes them…
NRL week 23 preview talking points: Time's running out for finals dreamers, the game heads west and we celebrate some cheating
Agreed. There is a strong argument that we shouldn’t recognise some of the players records e.g. Smith’s point scoring, given he converted ill gotten trys. The fact that we continue to celebrate all the players achievements shows that the players careers haven’t been tarnished.

Yep, they are right that noboy likes them.
The part that they don’t seem to understand is that nobody likes them because they continue to celebrate or minimise the cheating.

No doubt Bellamey is a great coach but it is Paul Bunn, not Bellamey, that is most responsible for list management.
It’s not rocket science but Bellamy gets it right so often to keep Storm shooting for the top
I can confirm Fifita travelled with the team to Sydney today. Assume nothing in the back spasms rumour.
Maroons player ratings: Bad defensive reads, a stupid penalty, a crop-top jersey all added up to dud night for Queensland
No. Is an honest toiler who will perform his role competently but little upside.

I couldn’t see him as a 6. He just hasn’t got the subtleties in his ball playing. He has shown glimpses of a kicking game, so I’m sure he could develop an effective one, but he hasn’t yet proven he could be an effective kicker.
Pre Lockyer, when there was less demand on the fullback to be creative, I’d say Edwards would probably be the best fullback in the comp. The way the game is played now however, he is very effective in his role, but he hasn’t got the all round game to be considered ahead of other fullbacks in my opinion.
Fortunately the Panthers don’t require him to be the linchpin of their attack. They have the best half of his generation, one of the best ball playing locks, a pretty good 6 and arguably the best centre in the comp. They have enough points without Edwards being an attacking threat.
I wouldn’t say Turuva could do a better job, Edwards is brilliant at what he does. I do think Turuva would offer something that Edwards does not.
There is also a bit of does the Panthers structure natutally limit the involvement of the fullback? Or is the limitations of the fullback considered in the design of the Panthers attacking structure? Whilst ever it is the former Edwards is the right man for fullback there. If it is ever the latter they may need to consider other options.
I think it has certainly been the former the last few years and this has allowed Edwards to excel in his role. If it is to remain so it will be interesting to see how they overcome the loss of Crichton.
