Mo’unga shoulder charged the head of PSDT, how did the TMO not pick it up he should’ve seen red.

Crusaders vs Stormers: Super Rugby live scores, blog

I give up immediately and resign. We are really moving towards a disaster here, to be honest I dont see any players of colour being close to first pick in the tight five, beast is over the hill and Kitschoff is on his way to becoming world class in my opinion. In the loose forwards I think Kolisi is the only quota who could realistically deserve a spot there, Carr just isn’t the best and Notsche plays a similar game to Whiteley but not quite at that level. Our backline is such a disaster but I feel there is hope here, I share your feelings towards Lukhanyo Am he is good, he’s definitely got better basics than Jesse Kriel. Other guys like Bosch, Willemse, Gelant and Sergeal Petersen I think are worth investing in, they all got the talent some just need a serious crash course in defense. Then we need to find a good number 9, I like the Bulls youngster Ivan Van Zyl and then bring real world class talent back such as Bismarck, Marcell Coetzee and Goosen out of retirement and we can build a decent team from there.

Pretend you are the next Springbok coach

I was lucky enough to watch the game live at the stadium tonight, overall a much improved performance from the boks since the last time they were in PE. Things that stood out for me :
– Serfontein looked good, gets over the advantage line and carries the ball straight when other players tend to drift
– Jantjies general play looked good but his kicking from hand really needs work, still not a international in my opinion
– Uzair Cassiem looked unfit definitely shouldn’t play him for the full 80, saw him getting sick on the field in the last couple minutes
– Both bok wings lots of pace to burn and Coetzee at the back was really solid
– Etzebeth was everywhere
– Subs JL du Preez had a noticeable impact as well as Hougaard

Lions defeat Hurricanes in entertaining Super Rugby semi-final, will play Crusaders in final

Oh Brent, please keep your politics to yourself and out of rugby.

Lions defeat Hurricanes in entertaining Super Rugby semi-final, will play Crusaders in final

He’s played for a lot of other franchises and never really been a first choice player but now he’s really found his form and is playing great rugby. I think he’s been great for the teams culture as well, clearly a leader and the players have really got behind him.

Kings vs Sharks: Super Rugby live scores, blog

Good on the Kings, everyone wrote them off at the start of the season including myself but they’ve showed real guts and had a great attitude. Credit to the players and coaching staff, I think its excellent for them.

Wallabies team named to play Springboks: McMahon to start at 8

Yes you’re right Jantjies does get a lot of traffic because the opposition know he’s a weak defender and therefore he did make a number of tackles but he also missed a number of crucial ones. I don’t think he lacks effort or commitment but rather technique and the fact that he is smaller than most the other players, Faf had a bad game and that obviously didn’t make it easier for him

All Blacks vs Springboks highlights: All Blacks win by 28

Of all the poor Jantjies performances in the green and gold this must have been his worst. We cant go on with this guy anymore, he hasn’t had a single good game for the boks! His defense is miserable, his tactical kicking is a disaster especially on exit, he is completely out of his league at this level. The only times he looks half decent is when the game really opens up and the boks have real go forward momentum but when the game gets tight he just can’t cope. Both bok centres missing in action today as well, the only time you see Jesse Kriel is after the whistle. Looking for positives, good performances from PSTD, Whiteley and Hougaard.

All Blacks vs Springboks highlights: All Blacks win by 28

Agree with you on the De Jongh, done nothing really to deserve a call up I would’ve liked to see Janse van Rensburd and Venter selected ahead of De Jongh and DDA. Esterhuizen also making a really strong case this season he’s consistently been a standout for the sharks, very strong in defense and looks for work.

I think Hougaard probably the best option for wing atm, Skosan finishes well but the thought of a guy like Savea running at him scares me

Biggest issue for me is that Jantjies is still starting, he just doesn’t cut it at test level. The sooner they move Goosen to 10 the better

The great history of Green and Gold: The Wallabies and Springboks jerseys

Brilliant! I think you’ve hit the nail on the head with that theory, and the selection changes he’s made this week will probably only further add to the confusion

The Big Rugby Championship Question: We might not lose this weekend

I agree Goosen should be the first name Coetzee puts down when selecting his starting 15

check out his highlights from the last year alone:

Lions in the sand: South Africa must ditch the quota and select these players

I agree, Kolbe and de Jongh not good options for the Springbok backline and Senatla needs a full season of super rugby before he can deserve being selected. Kolbe wont ever be a solid test fullback and ill be quite disappointed if he ends up selecting de Jongh because we’ve got some real talent coming through at centre now

Coetzee wants Boks to find new ways to win

SA rugby could really be in a different position but sadly there’s not much that can be done to get to get these players back and you cant really blame them either. I don’t think not selecting foreign based players will help to stop the player drain as it has in New Zealand because the countries economic situations are very different, it might help to keep current springboks in the country but the real problem is that a lot of the young talent who are not certain of their springbok chances are leaving. If we want to keep our players we need more money theres no other solution

Too much of South African rugby is being lost to European riches

Changes I’d like see for the RC

1)Du Plessis in and starting ahead of Strauss

2)Siya kolisi out but Mahoje is only quota that can play blindside and Im not convinced hes any better

3)Francois Venter in for De Allende he will create more opportunities for the players outside him

5)Goosen in for Le roux

6) Habana in if hes available

Lessons learnt from Ireland pushing South Africa to the brink

Completely agree with your 1st point, not sure if its just bad form though I’m beginning to think that he actually just isn’t that good a player or maybe just a very inconsistent. He does kick a lot more than he used to and its often very hit and miss, one good kick and two bad ones. On attack he’s still got skills but I think he’s become quite predictable, he always steps towards the touch line and defenders will pick up on this

Springbok Le Roux suspended for one match

There certainly are positives but I was hoping yesterdays game would give me confidence for this years rugby championship but I must be honest it didn’t. I think the boks are going to struggle against the all blacks and wallabies this year, but you not wrong about some of those positives we have to build on. Faf looks like a great prospect and just needs more experience now. I agree with your comments on Steyn his call up was probably a bit of a step backwards, he doesn’t offer the full package from flyhalf but he does kick better than Elton. We have some real depth in this position though pollard makes mistakes at times but his potential is easy to see. Lambie is solid but not great and I think Goosen will be selected by the end of the year and he is just an outstanding player. Goosen should start for the boks I think at 15 for now because Willie is playing so badly. Other positives is the talent coming through at centre I still rate Mapoe just needs more time to build a partnership with de Allende. Francois Venter is a great talent coming through as well. Boks will be strong in 2 to 3 years but this year I predict they will struggle

Springboks vs Ireland highlights: South Africa win the series

I watched the game at the stadium, quite a disappointing game despite the result. It was a very average display from the boks, kicked a lot of ball away and when we ran we really failed at getting a good number of phases together and penetrating the Irish defence. I don’t think Elton can be considered a test level flyhalf, his kicking is just very mediocre especially on exit play. Willie provides no impact and just does his signature hop and step towards the touch line and kills space. Captain Strauss, kolisi, mapoe had poor performances. What did seem to work for the boks though was the set piece I thought all the props had decent games and also the second row players, PSDT and also whiteley are very busy!

Springboks vs Ireland highlights: South Africa win the series

These strict transformation targets are making me nervous, but I think the boks will sneak the inbound tour 2-1. The team I think boks should field:
1. Tendai Mtawarira
2. Malcolm Marx
3. Frans Malherbe or Trevor Nyakane(If transformation is needed there)
4. Eben Etzebeth
5. Pieter-Steph du Toit
6. Francois Louw
7. Siya Kolisi
8. Duane Vermeulen
9. Rudi Paige
10. Patrick Lambie
11. Willie Le Roux
12. Jan Serfontein (Unless De Allende finds form and not sure if he qualifies for transformation?)
13. Lionel Mapoe
14. JP Pietersen
15. Johan Goosen

16. Scarra Ntebeni
17. Julian Redelinghuys
18. Trevor Nyakane
19. Franco Mostert
20. Jaco Kriel
21. Faf de Klerk
22. Damian De Allende
23. Sergeal Petersen

Im not entirely sure how the transformation targets work, are a certain amount of players of colour needed in the starting 15 or only the match day 23? I think this would be a fairly solid team though with a very explosive bench to end off games

Should Ireland be considered favourites against South Africa in June?

Mapoe has been great and deserves to be there but choosing between him, Kriel and Francois Venter will be difficult

Imo boks should bring in Goosen rather than Jantjies

Will Irish eyes be smiling at Newlands?

I don’t think we will have Habana as an option for June so I think wing and also halfback are going to be the biggest selection headaches. Maybe give hougaard another run at 9?(Aviva premiership player of the month for April) and use Faf of the bench. I think its about time the boks find new wings as well. I’d like to see Combrinck, Mvovo and Sergeal Petersen all have runs. Im also still not convinced Jantjies will be a good Test level 10, the boks need to get Goosen back in the mix

Will Irish eyes be smiling at Newlands?

Keep an eye out for Velleman, the young openside flanker of the KIngs, he made a massive impact on debut against Sharks in round one I think he got 4 turnovers in 20 minutes

Premature Super Rugby all-star squad

What about using James O’Conner and it wouldn’t hurt the wallabies season either ?

How Australia can win the Rugby Championship, Bledisloe and Olympic gold

Japan must be very proud of their team, this must be one of the greatest moments in their sporting history. Springbok rugby has reached its absolute lowest of lows and I feel terribly disappointed. They will need show their character and make a real bounce back next week. I still feel confident we’ll make it out the pool stage but I think we need to accept pollard and du Preez as the starting 9 and 10 combination, give the captaincy to victor and bring de Allende and also vermeulen back. Substituting the coach would also be nice but its probably a bit late for that
