This is what makes PG special is the Shed and now there’s the young shed (in front of the shed and under 18) they are something else and getting bigger each match.

Perth Glory's long-suffering fans deserve their change of fortune

Sorry to pessimistic, but so have Western Utd.
I hope we do get a new Stadium but where that is central? Land isn’t cheap in Perth centre!
Fans come from Mandurah, Rockingham, Joondalup, the Hills, so it needs to be central otherwise we’ll end up like Brisbane Roar.

Perth Glory's long-suffering fans deserve their change of fortune

Yes but they have cashflow, PG don’t get much cashflow.
They only get money from memberships, NOT on the door ticket sales, NOT on beer…..I could go on.
TheSecretScout is right, PG is still in trouble.

Perth Glory's long-suffering fans deserve their change of fortune

The A league has a history of clubs going under…….NQ Fury, Gold Coast something, NZ Knights etc….

No way. Poppa only looked after his kids and we lost lots of promising youngster in WA because of Poppa. And all the players he brought in quickly disappeared.
Poppa is a hated figure in the WA NPL scene…..and this is where the WA kids come from.

TheSecretScout I am a PG fan of nearly 10 years, and you are spot on regards the new owner. I don’t think he’ll start buying lots of players most fans imagine.
Also Sage did a good job, PG is a lower league team as we don’t get the number of fans.
PG have brought in players who are clearly after one more pay day, get injured then we wear the wages e.g. Brad Jones and I didn’t see him out in the community football like Liam Reddy.
The only point I disagree on is Stajic, he is the best manager we’ve had in my 10 years here. To get wins with the oldies (Amini/Tags/Lachman are brilliant but creaky at the joints) and the kids recently out of NPL (Bennie was playing U18 NPL just a couple of seasons ago), plus lots of younger players have left for better opportunities e.g. Keagan Jelacic (sorry about the spelling), Forde etc. he is far better than the likes of Poppa and Melb City’s manager who just buy in experienced players.
Thanks for your insight good to hear from someone with a level head.

There’s a great pod cast on The Guardian called Football Weekly (Episode ‘Qater’s World Cup, one year on..’) that discusses the merits of buying a football club for sports washing, as it’s actually cheap to buy a club. As there are a lot of discussions about the City Group in the discussions below.
Take a listen and decided for yourselves why City Group bought Melbourne Heart.

Townsend and APL at the heart of Australian football's latest self-sabotage

I agree with a lot but as JAJI74 points out, there’s a board behind Danny T and City group seem to be having a big role to play in APL decisions.

Townsend and APL at the heart of Australian football's latest self-sabotage

Any chance the figure on the board that is backed by Abu Dhabi can be named? As this makes sense, often the front person (in this case Danny T) is sent out to take the flack for other’s decisions. The whole board needs to be held accountable for the APL decisions.

Townsend and APL at the heart of Australian football's latest self-sabotage

You have to be joking, the most ridiculous comment ever about PG. Of that 30 most are local NPL players punching above their weight on short term contracts. PG do have a problem recruiting injured players, Brad Jones (18 months on the sidelines and no appearances locally that I saw), Sturridge, Martis etc….
Compared to MV & MC our squad is cheap, how do MV have so many expensive wingers? MV, Syd and MC are allowed to break the salary cap for sure.

Glory snap 15-month winless run, Grim times for APL as redundancies hit

KeepUp doesn’t report everything that is happening and only presenting ‘positive’ news stories, as a PG fan KeepUp never tells me what is actually going on at PG. Give it back to SBS and this will help grow the game, but this takes time.
Although Paramount + and Optus seem to be teaming up so maybe there’s hope for growing the tv viewers.

The APL is doomed to fail until it starts focusing on football

This will make a lot of us chose between a closed shop and VAR A league and the state NPL which has promotion and relegations and no VAR.
I support both but prefer the NPL for the reasons above (no VAR, promotion and relegation).

The APL is doomed to fail until it starts focusing on football

The football content is good and the CCM v Man City juniors sorry Melb City was an example. Also the WSW v PG was a great game, with the underdog winning.

The APL is doomed to fail until it starts focusing on football

This article completely nails it. This is the best advice the APL could get.
Thanks for this, it sums everything up really well. 👍
The football content is good, this the overall rubbish around the sides that’s terrible.
On a side note save money by getting rid of the flames each time there’s a goal, it’s hot enough at the grounds in summer already.

The APL is doomed to fail until it starts focusing on football

Melb C are seen as a junior club of Man City by many. Need to get rid of the countries buy teams in different countries. The German clubs get plenty of fans and are 51% run by the fans, great games.

A-League Round 24 talking points: Talay's future up in the air, Victory down and out, City premiers again

No, not a good idea. Football is about your team, your patch. Having Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide playing in Sydney/Melbourne is another bad idea that will lose fans. This will drive more fans away from Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide.
This didn’t work when Super Rugby did it and Western Force played in Melbourne.
How about a State of Origin, that might work. combined West/S Aus v, Qld & NSW v Vic (Semi’s) winners play a final?
Besides Socceroos only ever play in Melb/Sydney.

A-League Round 24 talking points: Talay's future up in the air, Victory down and out, City premiers again

As an absolute bolter Gordon Perkins (currently with Perth Soccer Club), last season scored goal of season for Armadale (Youtube the goal a scorpion kick).
His play is like Mane if you are after a comparison. Legs, tricks, speed, mazy runs, unpredictable and young.
Arnie should take a look if he ever comes over to Perth, as there’s 4 years to the next world cup and only the Kuol brothers that will be young enough by then, judging by the lists here.
Ps I can’t believe G Popovic has been mentioned – seriously!

As a new World Cup cycle begins, who will shoulder the Socceroos’ striking duties?

NSWelshman, you must really be busy with 3995 ‘friends’ if you are checking people’s spelling here. Get real, you’re just a sad, lonely troll.

'They’ve lost me': Is crowd decline a sign some A-League fans have walked away for good?

NSWelshman, do you also troll AFL, where the Australian team isthe ‘worlds’ best because they play against Ireland and no one else???
And if NRL is your thing Australia NRL beating PNG 104-0 is hardly exciting.
Maybe go trolling elsewhere is you don’t like the A-league.

'They’ve lost me': Is crowd decline a sign some A-League fans have walked away for good?

Academies in England, what like the top 6 sides?!! Funny! They hardly produce any players for their own teams, they only buy players in.

Brisbane's academy closure a Roaring shame

What i want to know is :-
1. Who owns VAR?
2. So who is making money out of VAR?
3. How much are football fans (A-league clubs or football Australia) paying for VAR each match?

The A-League would be hugely entertaining if VAR didn't ruin it every week

If you watch the ABC 4 corners it’s actually supportive of football being about the fans and for the fans, it was more of a negative about dodgy money men running the show. For example I would hate for someone from another country changing my teams colours (Glory btw), like City group changed Melb Heart from red to Blue (Melbourne City). But if you think that is good for football sounds like you are one of those that supported the Super league in Europe because it suited the big money men.

Football Australia needs to acknowledge two big mistakes

Great to see a positive article about why we should love the NPL game around Australia.
These are the reasons i now actually prefer NPL over the European leagues.

Last round drama in the NPL

Totally agree
‘Asia has been maybe the best thing to happen to football in the country this millennium.’

Is the AFC experiment over?

Totally disagree with the article. Playing against Japanese and South Korean sides is much better than Samoa (a rugby nation).
The golden generation were a product of AIS, great immigrant clubs (Greeks, Serbs, Croats, Italian etc…) and not so many people working FIFO or long shifts. Times have changed, move on.
Playing in Asia rocks. Go to your community clubs now and have a look at background where the players are coming from….
