Nine teams in one city, and another down the road. It’s unsustainable.

This is the kind of season where they could sneak into the eight. I say they finish just out side it.
Four burning questions for Carlton ahead of the AFL restart
One thing that worries me about them is their accuracy, which was a problem with the Demons in 2019. I’m less convinced they are going to be a powerhouse in the early 20s than I was 18 months ago.
Four burning questions for Brisbane ahead of the AFL restart
Forget premierships, this was Toby’s finest hour: https://thewest.com.au/sport/richmond-tigers/afl-2018-toby-nankervis-snubs-brian-taylor-during-roaming-brian-after-richmond-win-over-st-kilda-ng-8eaa861e30bb9ba19952781e5ce60c17

I think we’ve found our alphabetical wooden spooners.
The AFL all-time great alphabet teams: Letter E
Didak is underrated, there didn’t seem to be much difference between him and Swan, but the latter got more plaudits.

The ten players your team can least afford to lose: Greater Western Sydney Giants
I think Geelong were lucky to win in 2009, they struggled after the classic Saints match. It would have made more sense for the Cats to win in 2008, and the Hawks to come back and make amends in 2009.
When was your team the undisputed best in the AFL? Part 2
Would he have been the same player, though? Eddie Betts was _much_ better at Adelaide, for example.
When was your team the undisputed best in the AFL? Part 1
Brisbane would have gone close to Hawthorn’s 1988 record if that had happened. Just look at last year (and 1994).

When was your team the undisputed best in the AFL? Part 1
Forget about Sam Newman, 1994 was the year Jim Main wrote his ‘You’ll never buy another flag’ piece, after the Blues went out in straight sets. I think every Carlton player would have had a copy stuck to their locker door throughout the ’95 season.
When was your team the undisputed best in the AFL? Part 1
It would have been something. Before the Sharks won the NRL in 2016, their most memorable moment was the 1989 play-off for fifth, against Brisbane. It’s pretty much all we had for nearly half a century.
When was your team the undisputed best in the AFL? Part 1
I think you have made an error with the Giants. Remember Round 6, 2016? Beating a team aiming for a four-peat by 73 points is something, especially when the Hawks finished the season 17-5. I guess it can be disputed, but it would have given a reason to include GWS in the article.
When was your team the undisputed best in the AFL? Part 1
Not with the constant player drain. Northern clubs can’t play nice, especially the expansion sides.
The 2016 trade period revisited: How the Tigers went from duds to a dynasty
Shiel was contracted to the Giants for one more season, so they had to pay overs to get the deal done.
The 2016 trade period revisited: How the Tigers went from duds to a dynasty
When you look back further to the 90s, you can see their form fluctuate wildly from season to season, it’s kinda been the norm for them. 2018 -> 2019 is just Melbourne being Melbourne.
The decade that was: Melbourne
I think his off-field dramas have overshadowed Fev’s on-field efforts, he was a superb player. Hindsight is 20/20.
The 2009 trade period revisited: How bad was the Fevola deal, really?
Wilson is a beautiful striker of a football, but he is a little one-dimensional and is not much interested in defensive pressure. Langdon was superb in 2018, while Hill has real star potential. In five years GWS could be the big winners.

The Sharks 1989 play-off for 5th was their finest hour, until 2016. Plenty of stars, but many people wrote them off beforehand.
