I’d suggest career stats shouldn’t be used but with so few shield matches it nearly impossible to get a legitimate sample size from one season.
What would Australia XI vs Australia A look like?
Basketball uses a lot of net rating – it factors in off court / on court statistics, per possession stats etc.
You could develop similar models to weight statistics based on other performances in the game to take out the variables of pitch/opposition.
If you score 80 in a total of 250 it’s a much stronger performance than scoring 100 when your team declares at 3/440.
What would Australia XI vs Australia A look like?
What does this do for the season? Six extra games?

Valentine Holmes eyes playing NFL: reports
He can’t be a solid 6th man because he’s become so inefficient and doesn’t create for teammates. At least D-Rose can drive and kick to create looks for a second unit.
The not-so-complicated legacy of Carmelo Anthony
Its our sour note to finish for Melo. The NCAA ring + Olympic Melo will mean he’s no brainer for HoF.
He’s not the first guy to have a great what if career.
The not-so-complicated legacy of Carmelo Anthony
Just edit the timeout footage before showing it. No reason it has to be live. Half of them a rubbish and fans can’t make sense of what they are saying as they often drawing up a play on whiteboard – much better option to have commentators giving analysis and educating general public.
NBL to launch crackdown on swearing in timeouts
I’d bump Carlton because at least watching Cripps & Curnow is kind of interesting.
The official AFL 'watchability' ladder
Not that unfair, give them all away games to QLD, NSW, SA and they’d be travelling as much as any other years.
The broken AFL fixture - and the solution
The most any conference could get into finals is 4. Would the 5th and 6th best teams really be a premiership chance?
The broken AFL fixture - and the solution
No. Every team plays every other team. The conference play only applies to game 18-22.
The broken AFL fixture - and the solution
The key here, as I mentioned, is revenue sharing. By letting the “big” clubs get their conference to maximise revenue, it has to flow down to the other clubs so they don’t “keep small teams small”.
The broken AFL fixture - and the solution
Strange 2019 roster.
De Boer almost exclusively half forward. Taranto is a mid, who will get more opportunity to be the contested bull he is with Shiel gone.
Finlayson won’t be best 22 and is a defender not mid.
It’s laughable that you rate this line – Midfielders: Stephen Coniglio, Josh Kelly, Callan Ward, Lachie Whitfield, Jacob Hopper alongside Freo.
The comprehensive end-of-year review: Greater Western Sydney Giants
I’m always high on GWS. Losing Wilson then having the Williams injury would have crippled most teams but they made it work. Between Cameron, Patton & Greene they never seem to have a full strength forward line yet they still came within a couple of goals of a prelim. Need to pad out their forward line though to get some easier goals, hopefully recruit well in this area.
The comprehensive end-of-year review: Greater Western Sydney Giants
I’d read the excerpt and expected more from the book, to be honest. Thought it would give insight into how the game is played and won but it went down a few random analyses that don’t actually shape the game. Some clever fellows that’s for sure.

An NFL player seriously hid a phone in a goal-pad for a classic TD celebration
Is this an opinion piece or 2,000 word troll.
The Wanderers' dwindling fan base proves why they're Sydney's second team
The certainly need some insurance. I think the race is for Zac Clarke.
The real MVP: Dawson Simpson
A 19 possession swing in contested possessions when Dawson played and when he didn’t is a pretty big number. Lobb will always have better individual numbers but effect on the team is the point of the article. The same way Mummy didn’t get stats but the team looked good.
The real MVP: Dawson Simpson
Understand your argument, but to me the eye-test was Lobb can’t carry lead ruck duties, my numbers backed that up. Simpson-Himmelberg will be a better combo than Lobb-Himmelberg.
The real MVP: Dawson Simpson
Wild time at Geelong. They couldn’t find a ruckmen last season yet there was a time they had Vardy, Simpson & Mumford all on the list.
The real MVP: Dawson Simpson
Absolutely. Reviewed this game in my research, but couldn’t find a natural fit for it in the article. Definitely says something for what big wins do for a sides morale.
Redemption, resilience and the rewriting of the West Coast narrative
The difference Warner & Smith make. That looks like a proper test side.
