I think the honour that was associated with becoming a Bok has disappeared as Springbok jumpers were handed out to players that in the past would never got even close to a Springbok squad. These selections devalued the Springbok jumper and disconnected the current Bok side from a rich and proud history. I remembered the public outrage when Jaco Reinach “faked” an injury late in a test match so that his Free State team mate Helgard Muller could become a Bok. No-one would care today.
The South African economy is in a recession at a time when resource prices are picking up thanks to populist government policies such as land expropriation without compensation (confiscation?) that from the outside more like economic suicide/sabotage. While the SA is going backwards, professionals including rugby players will look for a better future for themselves and families outside South Africa – who can blame them? We also did it.
I do not think SARU can swim against a rip ride, it is better to embrace the reality that you cannot afford your best players and “join them” if you cannot beat them.

Why I am considering handing in my notice to the SARU

Or they may be compensated in another way….sport has always been a very good vehicle to grow influence and business contacts

Why the grass is not always greener up north

Business men do not necessary invest in sport to make a quick financial return. There are many ways private individuals are compensated for their investment in sport including access to business contacts, influence or they may even pet projects or a grudge. Twiggy for example is driven by the injustice towards West Australians as they were ignored and bullied in 2017 by Clyne, Eales, Pulver and kie. The axing of the Force was a huge mistake and set-off a series of events that is now playing out. If WSR makes a profit I think he will see it as a bonus, in the meantime he has a vehicle to advance his other business interests in South America and the Indo-Pacific region – rugby.

Why the grass is not always greener up north

The mistakes of the decade: giving Twiggy a cold shoulder and axing the Force instead of merging the Rebels and Force. All thanks to Cameron Clyne, Pulver, Eales and the incompetent mob at RA

The Wrap: A way forward for Australian rugby – how hard can it be?
