Good write up! Im always nervous tipping the favourite in such a big field but i think Vauban will make his own luck tomorrow. Drawn in good weight for him he will set a solid tempo and they won’t be able to outstay him

Gold trip And soulcombe for minors and maybe some out and out stayers for value (vow and declare).

2023 Melbourne Cup form guide: Pros, cons and realistic chances for every runner for the race that stops the nation

Couldn’t agree more. The tradition of a club is important as it reinforces the strength of the community and fans and players that have been part of the history of the club. An identity. In the scheme of things not the most important thing but this logo is just comical.

Iif I was in marketing I’d have the traditional jersey which never changes and creates a strong identity and then a special finals jersey so alternate strips have some meaning.

Meh-nly’s new generic logo is yet another example of ill-conceived marketing overruling tradition

I wish they would seperate kick return metres from running metres. It’s not really a like for like comparison of Teddy returning 200m a game in open spaces with the forwards running with 3 guys hanging off them every tackle.

Complete nonsense: What are the NRL’s most overrated stats?

Gold coast cost $1.5bn how could Vic government come up with $7bn?!!

The break costs will be astronomical.

'Incredibly embarrassing': Sports react as Vic government axes 2026 Comm Games hosting over $5 billion blowout

How about play starts once dummy half puts hands on the ball? Might be easier to referee? And gives teams a bit more time?

NRL News: Annesley admits Titans dudded by ref blunder, Tigers block out civil war, refreshed Teddy can save Roosters' season

The on field referees should be provided with replays on the big screen as extra evidence to help them make their decision. Anersley said as much, decision by committee is leading to inconsistent rulings so the video referee should not have power to overrule the on field referee.

Also, forcing a referee to make a call and send it for review makes no sense as he is requesting a review as they don’t know if it was a try or no try. Just let them get extra replays then make a call.

I hate the Bunker

Do people actually read Danny weidler?

The NRL has enough problems without media-manufactured crises

Always hard to comment without seeing the full 50, but at a high level you would think say 10 halves should earn a spot in the top 50 (assuming each position gets some equal representation). Of the halves I’d expect to see cronk, dce, Cleary, Johnson, Munster, Morgan, Pearce’s, Reynolds, widdopp, Maloney, leaving Milford Brooks, Walker, ash Taylor to all fight it out for one spot in the top 50. I think Adam Reynolds is underrated and has a great kicking game for the bunnies. Should def be higher. Would have preferred him in origin over Cleary last year.

The Roar's top 50 NRL players: 40-31

Agree was about to type the same thing

The Roar's top 50 NRL players: 40-31

Agree 1000%. Cotton jerseys at affordable price please. And keep design the same. If they had any brains teams would have traditional colours and potentially a special edition jersey if they made the finals, rather than flooding the market with multiple new meaningless designs every year.

An NRL jersey rant to get off my chest (again)

Kementari finally draws a good barrier! I think the stars will align for him tomorrow. Was 3 wide in the memsie and still almost got there. He has been a good friend to the bookies of late though!

Group 1 Orr Stakes: Preview and tips

He will have them fit that’s for sure! Last year manly seemed incapable of scoring out wide under barrett’s structure. I think it will be v different this year. I looked up Ruben garrick stats from last year and he had 8 try assists so seems he knows how to set up his outside man. He also missed 55 tackles ????

Also it’s good to see Des has employed Snake to work with the outside backs. Will definitely bring on their positional play!

Season 2019 brings Des-ja vu for the Manly Sea Eagles

I’m not sold on Suli. He is a winger not a centre. Makes bad defensive reads and cant pass. By comparison I think garrick will get his centre spot but as well his defence isn’t quite nrl standard from all reports.
My sense is des will need to put some starch into the outside backs. And manly probably need Walker playing there, however, if he is proven guilty I hope he is shown the door. If he is out you are looking at some combination of Taufua, suli, parker garrick, hopoate which doesn’t instill me with a lot of confidence having so many turnstiles to choose from. Joel Thompson might end up being an option there too?

Season 2019 brings Des-ja vu for the Manly Sea Eagles

Yeah Garrick looks like a real talent but his defence isn’t nrl standard yet. Our biggest problem is shoring up defence out wide. Likely backline of Taufua garrick parker/Walker and suli. Suli isn’t a centre and had maybe 1 try assist last year. His defence is woeful too. Could leak points this year so hopefully des can put some starch into them

Season preview: Can Des revive the Eagles?

Do you have any mail on Weir’s horses? Will they run?

The Mounting Yard: Midweek racing at Mornington preview

Quite like Seabrook for Saturday. Maybe its Just me but they could have won the oaks with her in my view. Who do you like for the zipping? No real standout, I actually give Libran a good chance, has been racing well without winning… as usual.

Your weekend best bets: 16-17 November

I couldn’t imagine a parallel universe where I didn’t follow manly. It would likely be some dystopian hell.

But anyway, it does raise the question of whether players need/try to put their personal spin on how they are perceived? Matai loved a big hit, while ennis was a grub and that was his thing. It seems to me that league is full of cliche interviews and answers and the game will always benefit from having characters and a narrative in it.

Those half time interviews are cringeworthy and the media do seem to focus on only a few players. Once heard Kevin Proctor approached and interviewed and you could see he was flattered and happy to have been singled out for his views on the game, which was nice to see.

The perfect Skivvy blindside to a television makeover

Also re egg tart i know they are saying she could be winx 2 but bear in mind winx was $10 in all in markets before her 1st up win for her epsom win and egg tart is $4 fav before she has even run!! Bookies are having a laugh!

Rosehill and Moonee Valley racing preview

Menari is the best 3yo going around hands down. He has really come on. His 1st up win was excellent given the weight and will walk in the golden rose if he chooses to go there. He is a better horse than Pariah all things being equal. Was a better 2yo too and Pariah got the win due to good fortune and it was the reason they sent him to melbourne to avoid the top 2yo in sydney.

Rosehill and Moonee Valley racing preview

Nice preview. Barretts inside knowledge of the panthers is a help to manly. They cut apart the panthers right edge at will last start and made huge inroads up the middle, though to be honest the panthers didnt look like they turned up last week.

Also lets not forget that the panthers only won earlier in the year to a perrenara special, a 14-4 penalty count to penrith too.

Manly Sea Eagles vs Penrith Panthers: The ultra definitive NRL elimination final stats preview

We have 8 in our draft. Realistically top 10 are all legitimate captains choices. VC loophole adds some extra strategy to the process too, so I am in favour of captains in draft

Yes the commish is on to it. Only good management from the commish.

picked up Carty round 1 with some solid selections in Sheck Cordner and Cody Walker. My team is pretty strong around the park.

No one does a biased fast lane on the rails like flemington though

Australian racing calendar restructure: Melbourne and Sydney spring

You have a lot of g1s at Caulfield over the Spring! I like the tradition that the Spring starts up in Sydney, then moves down to Melbourne after the Epsom.

On that basis how about all the group 1s are up in Sydney before the Epsom and then move the carnival to caulfield/mv them to Flemington. So Underwood and Rupert Clarke are up in Sydney progressing to the Metrop and Epsom respectively? I like the idea of keeping Metrop as a Group 1. We need more staying group 1s, not less!!
