Teams at 7-2 should always make the finals, but as many have pointed out they have a tough six weeks. With a young list confidence will be the issue, if they can manage to keep this they will make their first ever finals series. Winning is cruicial to the club this season and will keep their talented list together. Other clubs will start offering more money the GC can provide so players must choose success or money. The AFL want this team to be a success, until they win a flag they will continue to recieve soft draws and whatever else the league can provide. Yes, they are playing good football but at what cost to the other clubs. In a few years when they are a constant top four team spare a thought for those Saints, Dogs, Dees, and Tigers fans who haven’t seen success for decades whilst this team gets continual hand outs. At least their 7,500 fans will be happy, for a while at least. Good read by the way.

The sky's the limit for the Suns

Salary cap needs to staty in place for the benefit of the entire league. Clubs like Newcastle and Central Coast need to be financially secure before we even think about increasing the cap we need to see if it’s viable across the board. Also we need to look at expanding the league to 12 teams but that’s for another day. Whilst I do support an increase in the cap, especially when we are competing with larger leagues across the world I think we need to consider all the factors, not just one player looking for some extra coin in his pocket. We also must remember WSW is no longer owned by FFA so they may want a different outlook on their squad. Agree with some points though.

A-League held back by restrictive salary cap

Og should’ve gone, no question. We need some type of experience at the back and although Spiranovic was missing from Monday’s game I think he is better suited to play alongside Jedinak in a dual defensive midfield role. There are too many variables in Ange’s thought selction process too. You can’t say squad members weren’t playing enough minutes or at a certain level when Bailey Wright (League One) and Tom Rogic (Clearly injured) make the 27 players on the plane to Brazil.

Neill, Ognenovski cut adrift from the Socceroos too soon

I understand contracts are in place and this wont happen this season but it must be looked at as a viable option for future years.

Finals, down at Kardinia Park?

well written piece we too at @_FTSAL have struggled to get cub membership numbers (esp Perth) but numbers appear to be above previous years. Clubs are using social media to great effect.

Importance of social-media and fan engagement

Nice read, will be interesting to see how this season goes on free to air and the impact of the 2015 Asia cup

Football and Australia - where are we now?

Great read, well written article.

Vale John McCarthy: a truly tragic loss

The Premier League is not just about the top few sides, so many mini leagues with teams battling for Title, Euro qualification and to beat the dreaded relegation fight.

English Premier League back for another season

The cycling program at the Olympics is significantly smaller than a world champs so therefore any comparisons are tough to make. It was always going to be tough taking on the Brits at their best discipline on their home soil. Whilst I agree our were results we’re down on what was budgeted, the programming is the biggest factor here.

Time for Cycling Australia to review its elite program

The standard of umpiring has slowly diminished over the last few seasons but hasn’t been high on the afl agenda due to their expansion plan. This has greatly turned me away from the game this season and at times become a raffle about which rule the powers that be enforce on a weekly basis. Demitriou and his yes men have too power and are ruining what was once a great game.

Umpires and rules ruining the game

Athletics coverage was first class. Donegan was the star but also had a great supporting cast, pity we cant say the same about the swimming or rowing. also good to see us take BBC feed for sailing

London 2012: Usain Bolt ends on a high, Australia mix results

The London games have been outstanding but we will always say that the Sydney games were the best games of all time. I think just like the medal tally Team GB have overtaken us, and have out on an outstanding games. Full credit to Foxtel for doing such a magnificent job. If theses games were in a half decent time zone, and some of the Aussies swam a bit faster the majority of Australians would agree London have been the best games since Sydney and Barcalona

Has London 2012 been the best Olympics ever?

Yes, League should be an Olympic sport, Aussie Rules should expand into China, the Winter Olympics should be held in Qatar and the Easter bunny could hand out the medals to our winning Rugby League team in Rio.

Rugby league should be an Olympic sport

Brett Brown will be using all his tactical nous to upset the superstars of the US, The only problem is anyone of them could catch fire at ant stage of the game

Boomers and Opals to face USA basketball roadblock

Hopefully the men’s game against the USA is the shot in the arm basketball needs in this country. We will never get back to the glory days of the early 90’s but. The last few years have been a step in the right direction. The demise of the Gold Coast isnt great for the league but the other teams will continue to develop. The move of Perth to a larger stadium and the Tigers playing a few games at Vodaphone look to be good moves, hopefully the general public will support them. Seeing Australia against the worlds best is a chance to engage those fans who used to enjoy some live NBL action. My ‘carbon tax’ comment was merely a reflection of the publicity the game receives from mainstream media.

Boomers and Opals to face USA basketball roadblock

We cant drop our focus on any sports for the next Olympics, Minority sports only have these 16 days every 4 years to shine, gain publicity and a chance for those much sort after newspaper columns before another NRL/AFL player drinks too much or drives his car to fast.

By population, Australia is on top of the medal tally

Think Meares was very lucky during the first heat of the gold medal match, but the head judge has been very strict during the cycling meet. Meares proved to the world how good she was in the second heat when she outsmarted Pendleton tactically.

Pearson and Meares turn in golden efforts

Hopefully Hooker can overcome his yips, but can’t see it happening. Australia’s fortunes might be over on the track but we have performed well at this meet.

Can Steve Hooker overcome the yips on Day 6 of the Athletics?

Was a fantastic ride by Meares and a great comeback after he disappointing Kieran results. A well earned gold medal for her years of hard work and commitment.

Anna bringing home track cycling gold

Kiwis drew with Germany so Australia must beat Argentina to continue their quest for a medal

Hockeyroos: Can the women make the Olympic semi-finals?

Very nice summation of a cracking day on the track ahead. In regards to the 100m not sure anyone will go near WR, and at the day it’s irrelevant to the winner goes the spoils. I’m still tipping Bolt but will be a great race. Very quiet day fot Australian though.

Men’s 100m Final is the highlight of Athletics Day 3

Bondy, unlike Ch 9 I too realise football is an Olympic event (or Soccer according to Eddie) but Australia failed to qualify in either form. Football is moderately supported in Australia in comparison to the other codes but on the rise. My article was looking specifically at Australia’s performances in London, therefore I didn’t consider including football in my argument. As for thinking outside the square and watching the Olympics currently, my foxtel remote can attest to the fact that I keep more than an interest in the majority of sports partaking in London’s games.

Have we failed our athletes, or have they failed us?

I like the idea, but you’re budget is way off. The FFA need to sort WSW first before the league can look at too many other changes. The Aleague has been full of changes over the past few years with teams going broke. I would see a realistic target of 2015/16 being acheivable, a year after Sydney (Australia) host the Asia Cup.

Why A-League should introduce an FFA Cup

Very poor choice of commentary team. Swimming is our biggest Olympic sport in Australia so it frightens me to see who foxtel roll out for the athletics banter.

Hadley and Wilson: sapping my pool of Olympic spirit

Hewitt looked good the other night, but will struggle against Djokovic. He has now reached that annoying part of his career where he still has the ability to be top 15 players, but like so many other players on the or unit the top four are untouchable when they are in the zone and an important tournament.

Hewitt underrated in 2012, but can he topple Djokovic tonight?
