Huge fan of the Boston Celtics and Richmond Tigers! Favourite NBA player is Jae Crowder. Favourite AFL player is Brett Deledio, that's about all you need to know. Chasing banner #18!

As a proud Melbourne Storm supporter I love that we are hated!
It just goes to show how much influence we have had on the competition in the short time we have been a part of it. It shows that we are continuously relevant and a great team.
If we were a cellar-dweller team, I think the hatred would be much less, simply because people tend to hate the ultimately successful teams/players because of jealousy.
The fact that the Storm are based in Melbourne certainly makes the team more hated, but overall I think it is more simply jealousy.
GO STORM!

What's with the hatred for the Melbourne Storm?

Whincup is an absolute legend of motorsport. Some of his drives have been right up there with the best ever. It seems that when he is under pressure and needs to win, he finds a way to win.
I think he is definitely an underrated champ. When he retires and we don’t see another driver like him, I think only then will the majority of people wake up to see just how great he really is.

Is Jamie Whincup Australia’s most underrated champ?

I wish him the best of luck, but it definitely hurts to see him go. He will always be a favourite Storm player of mine.

Mid-season signings turning NRL fans away from the game

I understand your viewpoint 100%, but I was not focusing on just Melbourne when I was talking about young talent being raided. I’m aware this happens to every team that puts in the time to develop their youngsters.

Maybe you should re-read The Roar’s tagline. I believe it is ‘The Roar, your sports opinion’
And yes, opinions are not news, but then again, this appears to be a site focused on opinions of sports fans.
Also, the person ‘spouting’ this article fully understands problem with mid-season signings.

I definitely agree with you that Kyrie Irving is overrated. He is a flashy player that has a great highlight reel, but he doesn’t consistently do what’s best for his team.
And, I also hope you’re correct with the ‘Miami will stink’ comment. #BEATTHEHEAT

Does LeBron's return mean rings for Cleveland?

Don’t forget Washington. They’ve made some quality moves this off season and John Wall & Bradley Beal are only going to get better with another year under their belts. Losing Trevor Ariza will definitely hurt, but adding The Truth is a very nice way to bounce back. The addition of Kris Humphries will be an underrated move, but he will service them nicely. Can’t wait to see how they go.

wait, are you saying it’s a huge mistake to match a big offer on a ‘star’ that doesn’t want to be on your team?
SHOCKED

Does LeBron's return mean rings for Cleveland?

If he can have an injury free season, I definitely think he can be a driving force on this cavs team. He can influence games in a big way, his health is one of the biggest keys to the cavs success.
Yes, he’s getting old (will be 32 when the season starts) but LeBron loves him. James and the Cavs must have enough faith in him to be a big contributor as they traded promising centre, Tyler Zeller to the Celtics. Admittedly they needed to that so they could sign LeBron, but if he wanted Zeller on his team, they would’ve kept him and traded another.

Patty is a battler because he was never a star coming out of college and had to take trips to China, back to Australia, and played some time in the NBA D-League to get to where he is today. He was drafted with the 6th last pick(!) in the 2009 draft.
Not a bad effort to win an NBA Championship after all that!

Patty Mills: The Aussie battler who made it big

I think this would be a bad idea. The NRL and its fans would laugh out loud at an AFL game between Qld and NSW. They would majorly struggle to get crowds and there would be a lot of players playing that certainly aren’t household names.
A no go for me.

Why State of Origin won’t work for the AFL

Agree with this. Population often has no bearing on the result of games.
Larger nations/states may have a couple of million more people to choose from, but in reality, you’re only picking a team of 22 (in the AFL), and 99.999% of those people definitely wouldn’t be considered.

Why State of Origin won’t work for the AFL

I personally think the best options, forgetting all the problem associated with Origin, could be:
Vic v All Stars.
Or have Vic v SA, SA v WA, and then WA v Vic.

Finals chances are relevant throughout the whole season. I don’t know how you can think this game doesn’t have serious ramifications for the loser.

September on the line for Pies and Tigers

As a matter of fact, I have and still do play the game! I’ve represented Victoria, how about you?

Hird needs Essendon more than the Bombers need Hird

The way he ‘got the players to perform for him’ is the reason Essendon is in this mess.

Cliffclavin, Dante Exum will most likely end up with one of these teams, his favoured destination is the Lakers – but there are no guarantees at all.
The bottom team doesn’t automatically get the #1 pick. What they do get is a higher chance of receiving the top pick when the lottery comes around. Realistically, all lottery teams have a chance of getting the top pick, but more often than not, one of the bottom five teams end up with the treasured #1 pick.

The NBA's worst of the worst in a race to the bottom

Vickery was absolutely shocking, I found it hard to watch him. It appears that he simply doesn’t understand or want to play in front. Whilst Riewoldt wasn’t too impressive either, at least it looked like he cared and was putting in the effort – that can’t be said for Vickery. I hope Aaron Edwards takes his place against Carlton.

Richmond's loss shines the spotlight on Dimma

My exact thought when I read that! It’s a completely ridiculous statement. I don’t know anyone who expected Watson to be the best player since Bradman.

The five greatest wastes of Aussie sporting talent

James, I simply disagree. Rabbitohs v Roosters should’ve pulled a crowd much larger than it did. I think if crowds aren’t big in round 1, there is very good reason to believe they won’t improve in a few more months.

Five massive overreactions from Round 1 of the NRL

Round 1 should have huge crowds! Fans should be excited for the season to start and thus attend matches. The crowds numbers are very concerning, even if we have only had one round.

Cameron Smith will go down as one of the best ever, and I’m so proud to be a member of the mighty Melbourne Storm!
Well done to all at the Storm who worked out his contract. One club players are rare these days, and at Storm it looks like our ‘big 3’ will all be one club players. Purple pride is strong!

Cameron Smith re-signs with Melbourne Storm

Bring on season 2014! I’m still unsure if Ben Griffiths is ready to step up and be a legitimate second option, though. I wouldn’t be surprised if he plays the majority of the season in the VFL, but I’d be very happy to be proven wrong.
